I want a tablet.....

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I've seen many people on DeviantART using a tablet to make tons of FANTASTIC pictures. It's supposed to be the same as drawing, except you have to hook it up to your computer and you can do much more complex(?) pieces of art. I believe it allows you to paint, color, and about everything else. I've heard that the fancy kind are around $500, but the cheaper kind that are best suited(?) for beginners are only about $50-$100. That's a lot cheaper than the fancy one, but.....for a 13 year old that's still alot v_v ....

...I just wish I could at least try out a tablet..... http://kh13.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/sleep.gif

.....if you read this, thanks for feeling pity for me......

You need to remember that owning a tablet doesn't miraculously make you a professional artist.

Even thought I own a tablet, I still prefer doing traditional art. Tablet just doesn't give the same feeling as old-fashioned drawing. Don't worry, many famous artists still don't use a tablet. =) So, making art doesn't require owning a tablet.

But still... Before you buy one, I'd recommend you to find someone who already owns a tablet and try it out. I'm not an expert with tablet models, so I can't help you with them, sorry. =)

^^Thanks for the tips. http://kh13.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/happy.gif I really enjoy pencil sketches, but....I suck at color....so I figured a tablet would be useful if I wanted to do a colored drawing??? But you're right, traditional does give off a "wow, I did this" feeling. ...I wish I knew someone that owns a tablet......v_v

You can always do sketching + line art traditionally, then scan them and then fill the color in digitally, which can easily be done by a regular computer mouse =)

Or, you can use some kind of markers, in example Promarkers or Copics or so. Even thought they cost a little bit more than many other markers, they're quality, and they give a nice strong color effect too. Being talented doesn't require having a specific tools, but I know many artists use these. I myself prefer Promarkers since Copics are way too expensive for me. :D

If you really want one so bad, you can always save up a little every week. Maybe make a schedule and see how much you can save a week and how long you would have to save. I believe Best Buy usually keeps Wacom Bamboo smalls in stock so you can buy one there and not worry about ordering online. Or you can also ask for it for your birthday or Christmas.

I have a medium Wacom Bamboo and it has made doing digital art easier. The biggest difference is that I can control the pressure I apply with the pen to change the pen size or opacity. But the cheap ones work just fine. The more expensive ones are more for professionals. Just stick with Wacom. I've heard some brands can be glitchy.

Also, while you don't have one, you should try using a program called Paint Tool Sai. It's really good for lineart and is easy to use with a mouse. You can download it if you google it. If you need a tutorial, ~suzuran on deviantart has some good ones.

Anyway, good luck with getting a tablet ^^

Thank you everyone, for your comments! :D

Okay, I think I'll try that downloadable Paint Tool Sai. Although, I'm probably just gonna end up sticking to good old pencil sketches...hmm...eh, well, I'll keep all your suggestions in mind. Thanks again, everybody! :)

Oh, it just dawned on me! Is there a reliable site to get the Paint Tool Sai download in English??? For free??? It has to be free, or else I can't download it.

If you are set on getting a tablet then Wacom are generally considered the best ones... though they are expensive, and designed for proffessional use. It will take a lot of practice to get used to one.

As others have said you can get by with paper drawings and scanning them in, and use a image editor to colour them. (this is what i do myself and it's fairly easy).

but depending on the style you'll probably want markers to go over the lines.

Thanks for commenting! :D

Yeah, I'll probably end up sticking with just drawing on paper and scanning them in. I suppose if I get good enough at shading then I won't really need color...but....color is just so awesome, tho... *shrugs* I'll decide sooner or later, I suppose. Thanks again! :)

Completely free

Oh actually, I read some of it's forum and it seems that after 30 days you have to buy it to keep using it???? It's like a 30 day trial???
