Amon 4,279 Posted May 25, 2011 Myth: America is a democracy Reality: No it's not Myth: America is a republic Reality: Wrong again. A democracy is when the people vote on ALL decisions. A republic also has it's members elected to power by leading officials, not by the people. The United States is a Federation. A Federation is a group of independent states that banded together to form one nation. In it people elect others to vote for them in what is known as the Federal Government. The Government tends to have multiple branches both at the local, state, and national levels to prevent one branch from becoming larger than the other. Does America have all of these traits? Yes! Myth: Most Americans are fat Reality: Sadly, it's true 63.1% of adults are overweight. There is hope for the current generation of youngsters. Only 18% of young Americans are obese. Still a large amount compared to you less round nations but nonetheless still a hope. Myth: Americans are greedy imperialist Reality: 100% untrue. America has donated to more charity's and supplied more foreign aid to countries than anyone else. And about being imperialist? Our military is widely spread but in order to be imperialist we would have to claim the land that we have our military in, which we haven't done since WW2. Plus if we were imperialist wouldn't you think we would call ourselves the American Empire? Because honestly the word Empire makes any nation sound badass.
