CodedbyDays 12 Posted August 30, 2009 I'd just thought that I'd make a thread to explain the "atari" stick because few people seem to understand what it means. Note that this is just from my understanding of japanese and any translations that i found, so there might be small details that may change in the English version. Okay, if any of you didn't know, Roxas is completely stupid at the beginning of the game. On the first mission (on day he goes with Axel, and Axel explains a few things. When the mission's over, they eat ice cream on the tower, and Axel tells Roxas that this is his "reward." Of course, at this time, Roxas doesn't know what a "reward" is, but he kind of works out the meaning for himself. Sometime later, in day 20 something, Roxas hears from someone (I think that it's Saix) that Axel will be going on a mission. Roxas is just a little curious at the time, since he doesn't no when he's leaving. On day 22, Roxas and Axel eat ice cream on the tower as usual, and when Axel's done with his ice cream, he gets up and leaves. Roxas stays for a little bit longer, and he notices that the word "???,atari (winning, prize, that sort of thing)" on his popcicle stick. He learns that this means that he can get a free ice cream. The next day, Roxas rushes into the lobby, hoping to show Axel the stick, but Saix informs him that Axel had already left for Castle Oblivion. Roxas then decides that he will give the winning stick to Axel as a "reward" when he finishes his mission. A lot of time passes, and even when Axel comes back in a month or so (he stayed there longer than the week the others did, on orders to search for the room of awakening) Roxas still doesn't give him the stick. Not even when Axel brings it up to Xion and him does he even talk about it. It's not until everything becomes chaotic that he decides to send it to Axel in an envelope. Anybody who has seen "The Winning Stick" would know the rest. Note: The only reason that Xion's theme is playing in the background is because the scene immediately follows her death, and it can be assumed that the game makers just didn't want to ruin the mood. I hope that that clears things up;) Just be warned that this is from my memory, so it might be slightly off.

r3troRoxel 9 Posted August 31, 2009 ... I thought of it in a much more AkuRoku way. (shot) I always saw it as being almost like a little rivalry between Axel and Xion, underlying their friendship. Of course, at the beginning, Axel doesn't like her, since he knows the truth about her existence and also feels like Roxas is paying more attention to her... then, they do become friends, but I like to believe that Axel still feels 'jealous' of her. ^^; I imagined the 'winning stick' to show that Roxas was acknowledging that Axel had 'won' the 'competition' he had with Xion... IDK how to explain this well... Basically, it showed that: AKUROKU PWNS ROKUXION ALWAYS AND FOREVER 8DDD (shotshotshotshot)

Before I had the game I thought that there was something "magical" about the stick, but it turns out that you could just get a free ice cream. (But who's to say that the ice cream isn't magical?) HelpMeRan-Sama 141 Posted September 25, 2009 I thought that stick was left for him by Roxas so that he could remember him.
