I just realized that at the end of bbs, Aqua says "there is always a WAY" while looking at her WAY finder. Then near the beginning of he game she explains that the good luck charms help "find your WAY back to each other". get it? :B

maybe those wayfinders were bad luck because of the fact that they weren't made with actual paupu fruit

The affect of the wayfinders was to create D-links between TAV and other people they met. The bad stuff would have happened any way even if TAV didn't have the wayfinders.

Actually, they happened at the same time. Ven's battle weakened the X-Blade, and the power Aqua got from Ven and Terra finished it off.
