Everything is just so darnnutting frustrating right now. I mean, laying off my worries about my family for a moment, I'm worried about me.

I'm so irratable all the time now because I'm in constant pain and it really ticks me off. I feel like my dad paid for me to go through this. My braces have made it so I can't eat any substancial food for the last three or four days. I'm taking a "last-resort" powerful drug called Acutaine (or however it's spelled). I can eat practically nothing, because of the restrictions on fat and cholesterol while I'm on it. (Not the type of fat that makes a person fat, but the kind that builds up around your organs. The medicine dramatically speeds up the amount, so people taking it have to cut back.) I still have another two months of being on it. Then, all of the stupid side effects. It has a fudgecicles pull-out, unfoldable list of these side effects, and at the end says "not all side effects included". Some of the most common side effects include extremely dried out lips/hair/eyes, ect. (this is why I can't wear contacts while I'm on it) and rashes. My arms and legs hurt to the touch. I can't even shave my legs because the feel of the shaving cream hurts. A shower is painful. I can't take this--I mean, I go to bed crying every night. How can I take months and months of this? I'm hungry and I'm in pain and it's just so irritating because there's nothing I can do about it.

Sorry guys. I'm just so fed up, and I decided instead of bugging my brothers, I'd post it here. :/

Lexi that drug your taking isn't really necessary. I have braces and I never took that drug. My diet is exactly the same as it was before I got braces. They only hurt the first three days and after that, nothing. You don't need it so you shouldn't use it. Eat the same foods, just be careful. Your dentist should have given you a list of foods you can't eat such as gum, taffy, nuts, etc. Just follow that and you're ok.

Yeah your braces will only hurt for about a month or 2 weeks and when they tighten them it'll hurt for like a day or 2 the first couple of times but you grow immune to the pain and tightening. You don't need to take that medication, it sounds dangerous and unnecessary. Maybe take advil, ibuprofen, or Tylenol to help subside the pain and they also make them in a form when you can take them at night like advil pm, Tylenol pm, etc. Aleve may help too and prednisone if you possibly have inflamed muscles and cartilage of the jaw line, braces really cause that. But you shouldn't be taking a medicine that makes you feel horrible like that or in pain so I think you should go with the others.

The doctor is here! >.<

That drug is completely unnecessary. See the side effects out way the benefits so in my opinion ask your dentist to drop the drugs and put you on a better narcodic like Naproxen if the pain gets really bad. I have never had braces but I do know that they hurt and like the others said you will get used to them :)

I wish I could be more of an help but this is all I have for now.

No, the drug has nothing to do with the braces. The Acutaine was prescribed by my dermatologist. Supposedly as soon as I'm off the medicine everything will return to normal and I won need anymore blood checks. (Ironically, I'm in the LabCorp blood place waiting right now. Slowww)

If you read that more carefully before you posted, you would figure out that they know that.

Anyway Lex, I hope things get better for you. :C

I know what you mean, I felt like that too when I got my braces >.< but it does get better, so don't sweat it.

Yeah, it's not my place to ask but I'm curious, what on earth do you need such a strong drug for? (sorry if you already said, I'm zoned out today)

I don't have much to say here, except that you really should not be taking accutane. For chrissake, what the drug actually does on a molecular level has hardly even been discovered. Of course, this is the case with a whole shitload of commercial drugs that are around (particularly psychiatric medicine - don't even get me started there), but accutane is especially bad in this sense... I mean, the majority of those little side effects are negligible. You're going to have to deal with minor side effects, no matter what drug you're taking. But, due to a lot of its pharmacodynamics being hidden in the dark, in addition to the very little that is known about the brain (which is why so many psychiatric drugs are just absolute crap and based solely on experimentation and statistics - there's hardly any real chemistry involved), accutane can really mess you up. Not trying to scare you, but I'd get off that drug as soon as you can. I know of a good number of cases in which accutane (and the same drug under different trade names) has been a catalyst for clinical depression, some cases being quite serious. And I completely know what you're going through - my best friend suffers from a serious acne problem, such that sleeping is painful for him. But really, not worth it. (On a side note, I generally don't trust dermatologists).

Also, you won't even notice the braces soon enough. Don't worry about that... stick to the ibuprofen for a little while and then you'll be fine.

Okay, what is this drug actually supposed to do? I'm too lazy atm to check myself.

But honestly, it sounds like its not doing it's job. Is it really worth being in all this pain?

And as for the braces, it will get better, trust me. I had braces to keep my top teeth in position because I'm missing three teeth on my top row of teeth. And believe me, a lot of pain and not eating was involved with that. Ibruprofen is a magical substance.

@gunmetal

Accutane is a form of vitamin A. It reduces the amount of oil released by oil glands in your skin' date=' and helps your skin renew itself more quickly.[/quote']

It's usually given to patients with acne problems, but I am taking it for a different skin-related reason. My arms get very red and the skin literally peels off (it's not something lotion solves). It's hereditary--my mom had it--and I'd prefer not to get into it. This is supposed to stop it for at least a few years, and for most people, it's a permanent healing.

Actually, there's no way it can't be doing its job. My arms do look a lot better, though they still hurt like crap and now are very dry. But, still, better than before. Plus, after twenty years of this drug, it hasn't failed once. Which means it's pretty strong. There's a 100% garuntee, according to my dermatologist, who has put both of his nieces on it. So.. yeah. I'm on month five out of six (one month is really just waiting).
