  1. 1. Is the Kingdom unfairly criticized by critics?

    • Yes..Alot of critics have favorites like First person shooters and are plain bias!
    • No. The Kingdom has alot of noticable flaws and everyone knows it.
    • What!? This isn't one of your hacked fight threads? Nobody reads Game-informer anyway.

Hello dudes! SnR here with....I don't know somewhat interesting news...I guess. Anyway I recently read, my recent received game-informer to find an article about KH Re:coded. I begin to turn the page, but I instead said what the hell, lets read it anyway. After reading it, I figured out why I hated Game-informer in the first place, Its rating system. Yes the rating system, although I find the review itself to be, somewhat insightful. The rating that they normally give the game doesn't necessarily go with the review. But whatever I can't fly either....

Moving on...So after visiting a website I plan to buy Final Mix from, (Not anymore because I don't care) I came across an interesting article called: "Why Kingdom Hearts is Unfairly Criticized" Posted by Ursula, their user name of course, and they broke down why KH is widely criticized by critics....and me. Its pretty interesting, and might be worth checking out. But instead of posting the whole thing here, I'll just give a link.

PS: I have not played Re:coded yet so I don't have a point of view on it. For those who played it...is it worth buying? Because Game-informer screwed it up for me now. Also they gave it a rating of a 6.75 out of 10. I mean come on, even Epic Mickey got a 7.75 out of 10 and it had more flaws than all the Kingdoms put together. Its still Epic though lol, love the ending, very touching.

GameInformer hates most JRPGs, and games that don't happen to be stereotypically aimed at Westerners (ie shooters, sports, war, etc.). I wouldn't pay it much mind anyways. Reviews are nothing more than advertised opinions. You shouldn't let them determine whether or not you buy a game because you think differently than they do.

The two things that bother me most about any critic/hater, is when the refer to all games besides KH I&II spin-offs, and when they whine for KH III. In fact, I don't even take people seriously anymore if they cry about KH III, they know exactly why it isn't out yet, and them being cry babies isn't going to change anything. As for the so called "spin-offs", hello, please learn the meaning of the word. There is no spin-off Kingdom Hearts game, every game adds to the plot. Side game is the word you would be looking for, and even then, only two of the supposed 5 side games should actually be considered side games. Days and Re:coded are the only ones that would qualify for side games, and even then, there is still important info in them for when KH III comes along. Chain of Memories, Birth by Sleep, and KH 3D are/will be very important parts of the story. The director himself has stated the importance of BbS and KH3D, and any almost any fan of the series can tell you the importance of CoM. And anyone who complains about the story, may be partially in the right, as it can be confusing, but overall, the plot is really good. A good story is actually supposed to have plot twists, and things that make you use your head.

Yes, I believe Kingdom Hearts is sometimes unfairly criticized. However, I doubt it will ever stop. Just ignore it, and let them look like fools.

^ Actually, just Days. Re:coded and CoM are in the special little category known as "bridge games" =)

Actually at the moment not even Re: coded can be considered a bridge game if you go technical. I say this because at the moment it's the only sequel to KH 2. We know it'll end up being a brigde when KH 3D and KH 3 come out but for now it can be considered a lower level sequel as it doesn't count as a numbered gae like KH 1 and 2, (and BBS if you feel it's KH 0 like nomura stated it could be considered as).

As for me, I was in pathmark today shopping cause i'm the only I read the review and was appauled, it said that all coded did was clearify the ending of KH 2. It does do more than that. It emphasizes the ones Sora will have to save and highlights what will happen in KH 3D. I realized it isn't on the same level as the numbered titles, but give it more credit won't ya? ALSO! The magazene didn't even know enough to use the right pictures! They recycled pictures from BBS! This made me so mad that i bought it and am burning it in my fire-pit as i type this.

P.S. I only bought it so i could find a website where i could complain like hell but couldn't find one. I have to say though, burning this is as fun as burning the left over school books i had last year after school let out for the year.

^ Eh, I treat coded as kind of a sequel to CoM (not literally picking up where it left off, but because it continues with Namine's story, memories, etc.) CoM being a bridge game and all, and Re:coded tying in BBS and Day with the future titles...

It did more than just clarifying the KH2 ending. It introduced the concept of hearts born within data, the effects of connections to inanimate objects, going deeper into memories, foreshadowing future events because of the memories and hurting introduced in the game...

So long story short, that entire review could be easily summarized into one short sentence: "We whine about KH3."

Agreed, especially the first. One of the recent issues of the magazine(dec. I think) had a top 30 countdown of the best video game characters of the decade. As far as I know, the majority were all from games in the past 5 years, not 10, and mostly Western games. A lot of characters come from games i never heard of, or had but forgot about within a week of release, or as soon as walked outta GameStop like the game Bully. Although a small handful of characters deserved their spot... In short I hate reviews, just because a game gets bad reviews by critics doesn't mean it's bad. Typically when that happens for for I usually like the game... So don't listen to critics, half the time they're probably biased... Decide things for yourself!

I wish Square had named BBS KH3 like they planned.

Think of all the time that would have been saved of people complaining about the lack of KH3.

KH does have a lot of flaws, every person I talk to it about thinks it's stupid, and logically it should be, but there's some element to it that makes people forget that when they actually play it. The hard part is getting them to play it.

A lot of reviewers nowadays think of RPGs as nothing more than wastes of time, and don't bother playing for longer than an hour or two. I don't think any KH game can really be appreciated in that short of time. It gets better as you become more powerful, gain new abilities, and can actually DO things.

Of course, the other problem is the preconceived image of Disney. People always refer to classic Disney movies as kids shows, despite dealing with darker themes than most comparable movies. They have permanent, gruesome deaths, for both villains and side characters, and ageless humour in a lot of senses, a long with some subtle adult humour. They're also the only people who can pull off so much swearing and satanic imagery in a G rated movie. KH is a lot less dark than a classic Disney movie (When suicide and/or homicide aren't in the picture) but people see the smiling face of Mickey Mouse and assume it's a babies game.

There is something you can do though. Convince everybody you know to try a KH games (Preferably KH1, failing that KH2, then the rest, for the sake of plot simplicity) From what I can tell, it only takes a couple of worlds to hook a mildly interested person.

Psh. I have learned this about gaming magazines: Never trust their reviews.

For one, they are biased. They tend to favor shooters over any other type of game genre, it seems.

Secondly, what really matters is YOUR opinion. Don't rely on others' opinions to form your own. Just rent the game, or if your friend has it, borrow it from them.

I read that review on ReCoded, and it was total BS.

They complained constantly about how they were tired of the worlds, which leads me to believe they didn't even get that the journal they were working with was from the first game. I mean, I'm tired of the worlds too, but they had a reason for reusing them.

And then there was the usual crap about the camera angle. I don't think I've ever run into a DS game with a good camera angle, so I don't know why they were complaining.

Then they whined about the graphics. It's a DS. You aren't going to get the same quality of graphics as KHI.

Then again, as the article you posted suggests, people that diss on Kingdom Hearts really don't get what's great about it.

Yeah, the storyline is confusing to explain, but it's all there in your head, and it makes sense once you connect the dots.

People don't understand why there are so many "spin-offs" and complain about it.

And I guess some people don't take to button-smashers.

Oh well though. Haters gonna hate.

^ That is so true, I have 2 friends that thought it was stupid and/or thought it was a strange idea. But I urged them to try it...had to lend them the game AND my PS2 to do it, but it paid off, and now they like the series. One of them even said the concepts and ideals in KH could be it's own religion...Idk about that though. xD

Does that mean they hate Touhou? D:

Actually I kinda agreed with my bro (And that article) about Nomura milking too much :/ Srsly...they should just let loose ends be loose ends and let our imagination run wildddddd <3

I'm still itching my head and wondering why isn't KH3 out yet /shot

ahh and for those who hate KH, I just ignore them since I play the game...for the game xD (Mostly for the story but if I'm bored I'll try to get the 100% thingy xD)

Interesting. KH has some flaws, yes, but that doesn't make it a bad game... and besides, for you guys putting Days aside, it's important too! it explains more about Roxas, Axel, and XION's sorrow. if there was noDays, then Roxas would save Xion and everyone would be like, "who the hell is that?". Just sayin'.

That was the original plan; to just end it after KH1. But I guess Disney and SE decided to continue the series after all of the positive feedback KH1 received, and here we are now. It's just that we've had quite a few games on the lower side of the spectrum (Days, and arguably KH2). KH1, CoM, BBS, and coded are all on the higher side, but every one asides from KH1 is accused of being a useless spinoff and -insert whining about KH3 here-.

Yup. The games recently have had a lot of replay value, which makes me happy ^^
