Final Fantasy XVI Spoilers Discussion

Recommended Posts

after playing this demo for like 21+ hours everything is great for the most part story, gameplay, mechanics, and bosses. the only issue I have which during a second playthrough will be kinda annoying and didnt like this when it happened 5 times in some fights in FF7R are the phase transitions being either too long or too much. I hope in final fantasy/ultimate mode these are skippable and fast. The UI is not a issue at all the health bar is not in the way like everyone thought. im not worried about framerate of the demo cause its 1.01.

other then that menus are clean and dont need to have all this flair

i posted it earlier in this chat but I'm someone that has been extremely wary about FF16 over the last few months because none of the trailers captured me

the demo alone solved a lot of my worries and if the game continues at this direction then i know I'll be fine

so im just curious why its blind and not warranted hype

Well I wasn't speaking of you- anyone in particular recently, but, to sum it my thoughts,

It reminds me of when 15 came out, every trailer had people stoked, and the demo won over everyone else, everyone read every interview and said "this is gonna be the best thing ever" (generalizing for simplification), and there's a lot of people, folks like Night Sky Prince come to mind, who are loving and encouraging the hype for two reasons

1: its Final Fantasy

2: it's different

When you peel back the layers of the turn based vs action styles of gameplay, I truly felt a lot of people were/are hyped for the combat because it's not turn based, and, whether we admit it or not, there's a stigma attached to it, and again, cause it's different.

There's a lot of people out there like Lifetea, using the game as an opportunity to dunk on undesirable fans, and fans of Yoshi-P and FF14, that, I feel were not properly tempering expectations.

That's not to say anyone that likes the game is wrong, no, that's not what I'm saying at all. But I genuinely find, objectively, the combat is sluggish without upgrades and bores quickly, story I'm all here for, but the most hyped elements, I find are good, or were over hyped.

Torgal is another good point- gamers are so won over by dogs and cats "Oh I hope we can pet the animal", but, it's supercial stuff meant to draw people in. Of course they're gonna put a cute animal in the game every game has one now lol

"Can you pet the x" gamers are the most eaisly impressed.

people on Twitter are always going to overhype something tbf. that's literally all they're known for. shilling their favorite things to gain a superficial following. i have most of those people unfollowed or even blocked because some of it is indeed just stupidly blind

as for the combat, i think early on it relies a little too heavily on precision dodge which is why i can see it getting boring quickly. on the flip side, the eikonic challenge throws you in with too much at once. ive played 5 runs of it at this point and learn something new each time. so I'm hoping that with the full game, the progression is steady enough to let you learn your skillset enough before gaining even more but not slow enough to where you're too limited and makes it feel clunky and slow

I find the dodging responsible and fun to chain together, the "precision dodge" and chain indicators encourage doing it, seeing how you can mix it up in combat. I agree with Cole tho, I kinda miss a block button.

yeah I'm not saying anything is wrong with precision dodge, I'm just saying that to me, as im trying to look deeper into what you mean by sluggish, is that i think it relies too much on it at the beginning without giving you enough abilities to mess with

you have 1, plus your little magic bursts. it definitely feels very limiting

especially after getting used to the eikonic challenge battles

i wonder how late into the game we get Titan because he's probably the closest thing we have to a traditional block lol

probably after

garuda too, since that last scene looked like clive and cid were both a bit surprised at what was happening aka he probably gained garuda ability right there lol

the thing with the eikion part of the demo is to see how mixing and also the different abilities that are used to counter

there more then just dodging

parry is there too

that's what I'm saying

the beginning is limited by only having dodge and not much else to mess with but if there's a steady pace of abilities like i said earlier it should be fine

steady as in long enough to let you learn and mess with it but not long enough to drag on and feel too slow
