there's a mode called eikonic challenge after you finish the main story demo. drops you into a point further into the game and you'll have a ton of abilities you normally wouldn't have at that point

it's basically to allow players to get a better feel of combat later on in the game rather than with young clive's limited abilities

Just finished the demo.

Overall, I think it was very solid.

I have a few gripes, but, they are minimal at best. First is the camera; sensitivity for horizontal and vertical at 1 or 2 is way too slow but anything above 2 is way too fast, and with no option to get rid of motion blur, eh, pick your poison. The combat is as fluid as the trailers made it look, only a few small things; down attacks are inconsistent, that is, doing a critical attack on a downed enemy, and whether or not they work. I'm sure there will be combo modifiers to unlock, which I hope so; the combat as is in the demo, great for boss fights for the most part- the Cain Highwind Dragoon fight really made it all click together for me. Inputs when trying to incorporate fire attacks were sluggish and off though- quick succession presses didn't work often, and, the half a second longer to meticulously press each button slowed the flow enough to where I abandoned the idea.

The Eikon ability felt great to use; I only hope the lack of an MP or gauge doesn't make it all feel too easy, there's no reason to not use it or spam fire, and the cool down isn't very long at all.

As far as the UI goes, it's good, simple, but I'd argue too simple, the menus and post battle screens just feel like they're missing something; some kind of flair or style to them. I almost wonder if the game is perhaps trying too hard to be too accessible; it's nice to do, but, this is still Final Fantasy, I expect a little more attention to little touches like this.

Pacing at the beginning felt weird, with all the jumping around, once it got locked into its groove all was good, but, before that, I think I would have preferred we just start at age 15 Clive.

I will say though, the CG cutscenes really steal the show, those little touches I mentioned are all there, subtle movements in body language and eyes, hair and clothing reacts to the elements, you can tell they really took their time with them. The amount of unique NPC's that are just there is impressive too, I'm sure if I looked hard enough I'd find them but, as far as the demo goes, not too many repeated models.

It's strange, like, I knew this game would look better than 15, but 7R was the one I was curious of.

Like, if you held them up side by side, I think Cloud, even without the PS5 upgrade, "looks" ""better"" than Clive, but, 7R just feels like they dumped more polygons into the models, that's why 7R feels so weighty. 16 might not have as meaty of character models, but the little touches, imo, make them better because of the consistency between cutscene and gameplay, and also the touches to hair, movements and clothes I mentioned.

The story is great too, like, I don't think I'll love this gameplay outside of bosses, I feel it might become mundane quickly, but this story is really good. The voice acting, holy shit bro, this is the best, most natural performed voice acting an FF game has had since like, 12. 7R is good, better than most of the compilation (cause of scripts more than anything, and, you know, actual lip synching), but the cast in 16, especially Clive near the end of it, they're putting on a clinic in terms of acting.

So yeah. Thumbs mostly up from me.

The only technical issue I had was when the frame rate slowed down during one of cinematics in the Phoenix vs Ifrit boss fight. I wonder if Square will figure out how to fix that issue.

so apparently the reason why it runs 50 fps in performance mode is because as soon as you leave combat in enables raytracing even in performance mode. firetrucking weird decision

they just need to give people an option to disable it permanently

I am now at the point where I wish enemies would have more hp

the moment the combat clicks you absolutely destroy mobs and bosses

it's crazy how similar this game is to 7R's combat
