I think it’s finally clicked for me a bit. Here’s my theory (contains DR spoilers):

||You, Player, begin the game with no knowledge of your first life. But then you meet Brain again. As you progress through the game, your memories return to you.

I’m assuming the group Sigurd is part of has ties to Master Ephemer and likely possesses the Book of Prophecies given to him by Brain. The book will he returned to Brain, and he will share its contents with the player. OR, alternatively, that faction is teaching its’ members about the book’s contents. Either way, Player learns of the events to come, fully(?) regains the memories of their past life, and begins seeking the Child of Destiny (which may actually be part of what Sigurd’s faction is trying to accomplish).

I also believe there is a distinct possibility that Skuld, or a descendant related to her, shows up which triggers Player’s memories. ||

We know nothing of what became of Brain’s Book of Prophecies that was passed to Ephemer. Did he hide it? Was it destroyed? Or, perhaps, did it end up in the hands of a bloodline that could protect it?

I can see that.

Considering the Skuld being Subject X is probably jossed now, unless she got sent to the future again, I assume she either ended up in Scala ad calum like Ephemer and Brain eventually did and either A) married Ephemer B) married someone in his bloodline or C) she had a kid with someone else and one of her kids married into Ephemer's bloodline since it's pretty obvious she's related to Xehanort's mom. I definitely think either Brain or Skuld in some fashion will remind Player of his past life. That or we'll meet Ephemer's kid or grandkid or something and they'll remind the Player of the past life.

 

Maybe Brain gave it to the Player character in Missing Link at the end and Player took both it and Xehanort to Destiny Islands for safe keeping? Maybe at some point in the newest arc our main characters will go to Destiny islands and find the book hidden there?

That’d be cool. Maybe Mickey’s Scala arc will lead him to eventually finding Brain/Ephemer’s Book of Prophecies

In khux ending, Sigurd imply they have the book in Scala since he knew Brain was gonna pop up ("it was decided")

it's interesting because maybe, the successors own the book and its knowledge while the non-successors don't, we don't know any of them yet but it's easy to imagine some scenario with this kind of power imbalance

if ML player is khux player reincarnation then we'll probably be part of these non-successors
