Terra growled. "Oh, so you think you can order me around, big guy?! You don't know what you're getting into."

Aqua saw Terra's fist rise up to Riku's face level. That's when she snapped. She had to be courageous. Riku can't get hurt, no matter what.

As Terra's fist began to rush towards Riku, Aqua stood infront of him, shutting her tear-filled eyes. She screamed at the top of her lungs.

 

"STOP!!!"

 

But it was too late. He hit her jaw and she crashed onto the floor, sliding a bit until she reached the side of the wall. Before slipping into unconsciousness, only one thing escaped her lips.

 

"Riku..."

"Aqua!" Riku yelled, turning to see her hit the floor, making tears form in his own eyes.

 

"Who the hell do you think you are!?" he yelled to Terra, hating the man with every fiber in his body. He didn't deserve Aqua not one bit. He deserved to rot in a pit.

 

"You f*cking bastard," Riku fought the urge to punch him back, but surely he couldn't take Terra on by himself. He'd already realize that.

 

"Aqua did nothing wrong to deserve that!"

Terra laughed in amusement. "I think I'm her boyfriend. Little kis like you should messing in the lives of a person they only met this morning." He was still furious inside. Hate and rage were boiling in his heart.

"I can do whatever the Hell I want! Aqua is mine, not yours! She lied to me and betrayed me with that rat Braig!" He shot a disgusted look to Aqua, lying there.

 

"She doesn't deserve decency."

"She would never cheat on you!" Riku couldn't believe he was saying. Aqua wasn't the one to be unfaithful, even Riku knew that. "She's not that kind of person! She cares about you and yet you come and do this!? Without even giving her a chance to give you her side of the story!"

 

Terra was evil in Riku's eyes. He treated her like crap. He didn't cherish her. Oh if Riku was in Terra's position, he'd care about Aqua more than anything... Terra was just pissing him off so much!

 

"She deserves better than you, you bastard!"

Terra reached forward and grabbed Riku's shirt. He pulled him close to his face. "If you actually knew something instead of being the worthless, nosy student you are, you'd know that I have my reasons. You don't know who she is. You just talked to her for about an hour." Terra threw him to the ground.

 

"You don't know her and she doesn't know you."

"And you do?" Riku's snide remark was sure to piss Terra off a lot. "At least I know more than you,"he added under his breath, realizing he was taking too many chances.

 

And where would it lead? Would Aqua even leave him after what he just did to her? What would happen?

 

It wasn't like Riku was expecting for Aqua to dump Terra for him. No that was the farthest from his mind right now. But what was the reason why Riku was even here, protecting her and standing up to her what seemed abusive boyfriend?

 

Vanitas couldn't help but get curious as to where Riku went and why he was taking so long.

 

He walked, past the classrooms until finally finding Riku in his Art teacher's class.

 

Of course, Vanitas had to do something. His best friend was in there and his own geography teacher looked pissed off and ready to kill even, and a blue haired woman was on the floor and what seemed to be a large fist sized bruise on her jaw. Who knows, it looked like it might even be broken?

 

Immediately, without hesitation, Vanitas did yet another kind thing today (although he would've done it anyway) in order to help his best friend and the poor teacher from the rather violent Terra. He called the police.

Terra sneered. He clenched his teeth and walked up to Riku. He was really getting on Terra's nerves. What was this? Did he....

 

When he figured it out, the thought made him laugh maniacally. "Are you in love with Aqua?" He laughed again. "Idiot! You're just an insignificant kid in her class! Besides, she doesn't want you. She doesn't need you."

 

He lunged at Riku and punched him in the gut. He leaned into his ear and whispered.

 

"She will never love you."

 

He saw as Riku held his stomach and fell to his knees. Terra grabbed the boy's hair and smashed his head to the floor, earning a grunt. With that, he stood up and kicked the boy's ribs and chest. He saw the boy cringe and bleed, but Terra didn't care. He got in his way.

 

Now he was a dead man.

There was no way to answer Terra's question, although it was obvious. Riku was in love with Aqua. And he wasn't afraid to

admit it. He was indeed in love with Aqua Clearwater.

 

He knew he couldn't take Terra. He was just scared of what he would do to Aqua. Hopefully someone had just casually walked by and seen. Maybe they went for help... Riku wouldn't know though. He lost consciousness once his face crashed into the floor.

Terra saw the boy's eyes close. He furrowed his eyebrows and checked the boys pulse. Still alive, but completely uconscious. He laughed and proceeded to Aqua's body.

 

BANG!

 

Terra turned and his eyes widened in horror. In the doorway, multiple policemen were standing there, two were on the side, armed. Terra backed away from Aqua and faced the policemen in awe.

 

"Terra Stronghold, you are under arrest for assault on a student and teacher." The man in front said. Two men behing Terra rastrained him while another cuffed his hands. "YOU CAN'T DO THIS!!" Terra yelled over and over. However, the head of thepolicce had enough evidence. He called the paramedics and alerted them to get to the school.

The smell of disinfectant and sick people was what Riku first noticed when he woke up. His head ached and his vision was blurry, probably from the hours of being completely knocked out.

 

The hospital. That's where he was. He wondered where the asshole Terra could be and smiled slightly when he realized that he may very well be locked up. There was no way he could get away with something like that...

 

He turned around to see Aqua, also in the hospital, and thankfully in better shape that Riku was.

 

"Aqua!"

Aqua felt her hand twitch. She opened her eyes slowly and blinked to sharpen her vision from the blurry haze it was. She couldn't move. Her whole body ached. She tried to open her mouth but it stung so badly...

 

Oh..Right. Terra.

 

She looked around the room, unmoving. Aqua's gaze caught the sight of the silver haired boy who tried to save her. He looked so full of pain and distraught....

 

"Riku..!" She jumped out of her bed, almost losing her footing. She walked over to Riku and embraced him tightly.

 

"I'm sorry. It's all my fault..."

Riku would've hugged back if he could. But he was a little too much in pain to actually move. But Aqua was hugging him, and he wasn't sure if his heart would explode from all the happiness. Yeah, he was beaten up, and probably looked like crap, but here was Aqua, hugging him.

 

"It's not your fault," Riku comforted, or tried to. It would've worked better if he could hug back. But just moving his arms hurt. "It was that asshole Terra. You didn't deserve what he did to you."

Slowly, she removed her arms from Riku. She felt tears in her eyes. But she was smiling and she felt happy...

 

"I'm really glad you're all right, Riku." She slid her hands to Riku's face and spotted the stitches he had on the side of his forehead. Then her gaze drifted to the purple blotch on her wrist. It disgusted her to look at it... It looked like someone bathed her wrist in blue and purple paint....

 

She walked away and sat on the hospital bed. She looked outside to the setting sun and smiled.

 

"At least we're okay... right?"

Riku smiled. Aqua cared about him. Maybe not in the same way as Riku cared about her, but she still cared and that just made Riku about ten times happier, if that was even possible now.

 

"I don't know about you, but I feel more than okay." That was true. Ached all over, but Riku felt better than okay. At least maybe Aqua would leave that douchebag that got them both in the hospital. At least she would be safe. Yeah, Riku felt better than okay. He felt great.

Aqua smiled. "That's good..."

She layed down once again on her side, facing Riku. She knew, that in his presence, she'd be safe. Riku'd protect her. That was certain. Before falling to sleep, she remembered that she forgot to do something. Something very important.

 

"Riku? Thank you."

 

Seeing him okay and alive was enough for her to be at peace. She hadn't felt like this...ever... Not with anyone...

While she was dozing off, she had one question in her mind.

 

Was she falling in love with Riku..?

Aqua fell asleep peacefully, and Riku just stared at the ceiling, too restless to sleep. He wondered if he should confess to Aqua or if he should keep his feelings hidden from her?

 

"Damn, you look like sh*t." Vanitas stood at the doorway, looking over a Riku. "Good thing I passed by when I did."

 

"You called the police?"

 

"Yes, sir." Vanitas smirked, taking a seat in the chair next to Riku's hospital bed. "It was fun seeing my geography teacher get hauled off by the cops."

 

"Knowing you, I would've expected you to jump in and try to kick the guy's ass. Why'd you call the police insted?"

 

"Because Mr. Stronghold looked f*cking murderous!" In truth, Vanitas just didn't want to get his own ass in jail as well for assault, knowing that wouldn't look good with Namine.

 

He looked over at Aqua sleeping on the other bed.

 

"So, are you like madly in love with that chick or what?"

 

"How'd you guess?"

 

"Because I know you well enough not to get almost killed for someone else unless you really cared about them."

Namine heard that Ms. Clearwater had been sent to the hospital, along with another student. That rumor that Mr. Stronghold was sent to jail was going around to. She had drove to the town's hospital with Sora that evening. Namine walked up to the receptionist.

 

"Uhm, escuse me? Is Ms. Aqua Clearwater here?" She asked shyly.

 

"Yes. She's right over there." the lady said, pointing to the last room in the hall.

 

"Oh. Okay. Thank you." She motioned for Sora to come along ,flowers in his hand. She wondered if Ms.Clearwater was alright... What if Mr.Stronghold was the one who sent her here? That would have been terrible...

 

"Ms. Aqua..?" She asked, opening the door.

Vanitas heard that sweet familiar voice that could only belong to Namine. He turned around, forgetting he was talking to Riku to look at the girl he just saw hours before.

 

"Hey Namine, hi Sora," he greeted, spotting his younger brother just behind the girl. He was going to tell Riku all about her, but well he'll get to meet her first hand.

 

"Are you here to see Ms. Clearwater?" Riku asked the blonde girl that walked in with a brown haired look alike of Vanitas. His brother.

 

"She's asleep right now," Riku motioned over to her sleeping figure on the other hospital bed.

 

Riku remembered the girl. From their class with Mr. Braig. Namine apparently, the girl Vanitas was obviously crushing on. Big time.

Namine couldn't smile when she saw Vanitas. Seeing Ms.Aqua's hurt body broke her heart. She nodded absentmindedly to Riku and walked over to her teacher's bed.

 

Sora followed her, placing the flowers on a counter beside the bed. She took a look at Vanitas and nodded silently, heading out the door. He really hated hospitals ever since he was a child. All these people dying and hurt... It wasn't a place for someone like Sora.

 

Namine pulled up a chair by Aqua's bed and sat. She took her hand in her own and stroked it. "Poor Ms.Clearwater. She didn't deserve something like this..." Namine's eyes widened in horror and pity when she saw the bruise on her other wrist.

 

"They really should put some ice on that... I'll go get the nurse." With that, she walked out.

Immediately Vanitas rose up.

 

"Don't worry, I'll go get her," Vanitas said, motioning for Namine to sit back down. "I need to go stretch anyway."

 

No way was Vanitas going to let her go to the trouble. Not if Vanitas could do it instead.

 

"I'll be right back."

 

Riku rolled his eyes as Vanitas left the room. The boy was smitten. Not that Riku should be talking, but it was just odd to see Vanitas like that.

 

"You and Vanitas seemed to have become quick friends," Riku said out of the blue. It was only his duty as Vanitas's best friend and self ppointed wingman to inconspicuously find out if Namine liked Vanitas, even if it was just a slight attraction.

Namine just watched as Vanitas walked out. He was becoming a bit nicer. That made her smile. She sat back down in her chair and fumbled with her sleeve.

 

"You and Vanitas seemed to have become quick friends."

 

She turned to Riku and laughed once. "Yeah," she nodded. "He's a really nice guy. He's kind... and sweet... brave, also." Namine frowned a little though, and her admiring eyes turned sad again. "But there's one thing I don't get about him..."

 

"Why does his behavior change so much? I mean, one second he's really nice, the next he's vicious..."

Vanitas? Nice? What crack had this girl been smoking? Surely Vanitas wasn't trying to change to get her to like him? No that wasn't like him. Or maybe Namine had just discovered his kinder side which seemed nonexistant.

 

"Vanitas is well... Vanitas. He hates most people. Well not hate, but more like strongly dislike. But there are those few he'll treat decently and even consider a friend, but he'll have his moments where he's plain... scary for lack of a better word. Maybe he's just a bit crazy," Riku laughed. Vanitas is crazy. He had his tantrums and bitch fits and murderous rampages, but here he was, being kind and nice to Namine, instead of acting like his 'bad boy' self. "I think Vanitas might just have a cr--"

 

Vanitas came back, just in time to cut Riku off. He shot him a glare, knowing what he was about to tell Namine.

 

'I'll kill you,' he mouthed before handing the bag of ice he got from one of the nurses to Namine. And then he smiled.

 

"Deja vu."

Namine was surprised when Vanitas said that. She felt a blush grow on her cheeks and she smiled.

 

"Thanks. But it's not me this time." She giggled.

 

After she thanked Vanitas, she walked over to her teacher. Carefully, she pressed the icepack onto her wrist. Namine sighed. She could be here taking care of Ms.Aqua and Riku all day everyday if Vanitas was here with her. He didn't have to help. His presence would be more than enough for her.

Namine's giggle made Vanitas smile even more. He wondered how long she would be here... He was going to ditch Riku after about a half hour of talking, but with Namine here, he didn't want to go.

 

He took his seat back next Riku, although inching closer to Namine's direction, without anyone noticing of course. At least he hoped.

 

Oh God. A smile. On Vanitas's face. And not one of his creepy ones. Riku couldn't believe it. If Vanitas ever started dating that girl, she'd turn him into a saint. And when that happens, all evil would be cast out of the world.

Night fell and they were all still gathered there. Namine finished applying the ice pack and put a blanket on Aqua. When she finished, she washed her hands in the little sink they had across the room. After she wiped them dry, she walked up to her chair and grabbed her bag.

 

"It seems I gotta go now. If I don't, my friends will be worried."

 

Namine reached out and gave Riku a side hug and smiled. "I hope you get better." However, when she said goodbye to Vanitas, she couldn't help but feel to shy to give him a hug, so she stuck out her hand again.

 

"Bye, Vanitas."
