Oswald the Lucky Rabbit

Recommended Posts

now that Epic Mickey has been released in Europe and America (which is an amazing game by the way :D), do you think that he may be put into a future Kingdom Hearts game? Disney has the rights to use him now, since 2006 i believe, and i personally would love to see him in a KH game, especially considering his "past" with Mickey. What does everyone else think???

I'd really not want to see Oswald in KH. It's hard to explain, but he's, you know, "sacred." Not only in Epic Mickey, but Oswald represents everything Disney that has been forgotten over the years and buried under the more popular things. Not to mention, the developers for EM already said that including him in the game was pushing it.

it would be nice to see Oswald the Lucky Rabbit again seeing how all his glory got taken away from him by Mickey due to copy rights. I would love to see that rabbit again :3. But he is most likely not going to be in KH because he is a "legend".

To those who have no idea who oswald is then read this:

Oswald was introduced in 1927 after Disney's series of Alice Comedies had run its course. Disney signed a new contract with Universal Studios head Carl Laemmle where he would produce a series of cartoons for Charles Mintz and George Winkler. The first Oswald cartoon, Poor Papa, was rejected by the Universal studio heads due to poor production quality and the sloppiness and age of Oswald. After this, Disney, together with Ub Iwerks, created a second cartoon called Trolley Troubles featuring a much younger, neater Oswald. The short officially launched the series and proved to be Disney's greatest success yet.

A few of Oswald's adventures dealt with humor related to the procreative abilities of his species, as illustrated in the episode description of Poor Papa: "Oswald gets a visit from the stork... again and again and again. He has to resort to a variety of strategies to stop the continual flow of babies." Trolley Troubles also showed Oswald surrounded by numerous baby rabbits, this time heckling him while on the job. Other cartoons, however, generally placed Oswald in more human-type conditions and situations.

In spring 1928, with the series going strong, Disney asked Mintz for an increase in the budget. But Mintz instead demanded that Walt take a 20 percent budget cut, and as leverage, he reminded Disney that Mintz owned the character, and revealed that he had already signed most of Disney's current employees to his new contract: Iwerks and Les Clark were among the few who remained loyal to Walt. Disney refused Mintz's demand, disassociating himself from Oswald after the series' first season. While finishing the remaining Oswald cartoons, Disney, Iwerks and Clark created the cartoon hero who would become The Walt Disney Company's lasting symbol: Mickey Mouse (a slightly altered Oswald the Rabbit to avoid litigation), the most famous of Walt Disney's characters.

I Agree. It would be nice to see him but I doubt it will happen. Notice I said doubt he could still possibly be in it I mean who knows what SE/Disney have up their sleeves... only time will tell :)

Meh, I just don't see it happening at all in my opinion. I mean, he been rejected due to copy rights and got replaced by his "brother" Mickey Mouse. But it still would be nice to see that little Rabbit in KH (:.

Hmmm Sora in wasteland? That would be awesome for a world. I actually never even suspected Disney to do anything with Oswald after the whole copyright thing in the 20's, but I guess Disney got him back some how. Anyway yeah I would love to see that rabbit in the Kingdom. I can picture a mission with Mickey and Sora very well.

they got him back in like 2006 by trading where the got the rights to him by NBC Universal as part of a deal that sent sportscaster Al Michaels from Disney's ABC and ESPN to NBC sports

Yeah, Disney got the rights to Oswald back in 2006. But I don't see how there should be a world where there are rejects of other old Disney characters. It's quite unnecassary seeing how there are countless Disney worlds in the KH universe. I mean, it would add up to see Sora and Mickey having a "mission" in a world that wouldn't be necesarrey. If he was in a KH game he would most likely be in Disney Town.
