Yeah i did hear ff9 was originally meant to be the final ff game and a love letter to the previous game, 10 and onwards had a small direction change although i cant verify what that is since the only games i played so far are 1, 4 and bits of 6

Ff13 is a weird game story wise

Like i am on chapter 7 and so far nothing has really...happened

They have been on the run since chapter 3

But like nothing about the endgoal has been stated

Characters do stuff but they mostly just repeat the same 3 points constantly

Snow and lightning about Serah, Hope about revenge (although this finally ended) and vanilla constantly being obscure

I do enjoy the gameplay although for some reason they throw in insanely hard fights with no good rewards

You just end up with like 100CP, can at least give some more

it's odd yeah, things start out high, then go low, and then pick back up again at the end

Like Hope and Lightning when they were a duo was pretty cool cause Hope got to learn and get his shit kicked in from Lightning
Sazh and Vanille after that however... Not that great

Actually I would say Sazh is one of the better written characters

Like Sazh's whole thing is a mystery and is slowly revealed why he's there with Lightning

Him bonding with vanille helps open him up

And now on chapter 8 with his reunion with his son it's fulfilling that part of his character and moving on to the next
