-Kye- 10 Posted July 15, 2022 turn based is fine as long as you do it like persona where it feels fast and fluid
venommob12 2 Posted July 15, 2022 I mean if 16 was going to be turn based it would have been something like an offline singleplayer version of FF14, just like how FF12 was a basically an offline singleplayer version of FF11
Limen 10 Posted July 15, 2022 turn based is fine as long as you do it like persona where it feels fast and fluidjust a statement I'd like to make that isn't toward anyone in specific: younger generations can enjoy turn based just the same as older generations because turn based games are a genre that still merit their own space in gaming. action has not replaced it, but simply coexists with it. it has and always will be about a players preferences. the only difference nowadays is that, unlike 25+ years ago, players nowadays have more options to choose from than just turn based, which of course splits the amount of players who prefer turn based vs action vs any other genre like shooters. there's just more variety now, doesn't mean turn based as a whole is bad or old or outdated. there can definitely be turn based games that are bad but that's more on the game itself and not the genre and i hate when people turn to "it's bad bc its turn based" as their complaint on a game
venommob12 2 Posted July 15, 2022 Yeah personally I think the concept of turn based vs. action based seems pretty dumb, it can work both ways. FF 13 trilogy and FF14 still use turn based combat but in a much more engaging way where it didn't feel like simply input commands and simply taking turns and wait too long. Ni No Kuni Wrath of the White Witch did a fantastic job at this too. Now if there is one thing that bugs me is the superiority complex from both parties and honestly it shouldn't be that way
Limen 10 Posted July 15, 2022 even truly turn based games are completely fine when the system is built around creating good strategies and not mashing confirm
venommob12 2 Posted July 15, 2022 Right current pokemon games are proof of this

GoldenDrummer730#4323 24 Posted July 15, 2022 Lowkey turn based wait is great cause AW heck I gotta go help someone in the house? No worries I can just wait on my turn
Limen 10 Posted July 15, 2022 Octopath is a step in the right direction as well, though some of it is also meh lol. the idea of exploiting weaknesses to deal actual damage is engaging even as a turn based game
ali3n.0bserv3r 6 Posted July 15, 2022 I thing turn based stuff is great, and open combat is cool, it honestly just depends on what audience you’re shooting for and what you’re up to that day.
venommob12 2 Posted July 15, 2022 Right I think the idea of both styles to coexist is good, but then you got this one crowd that talks smack saying no everything should be turn based or no everything should action, like why?
GoldenDrummer730#4323 24 Posted July 15, 2022 If only people could understand that with FF lolErgo hybrid systems will be great once they get explored moreLike action when you want, turn based when you want
ali3n.0bserv3r 6 Posted July 15, 2022 I prefer more open combat because you can get creative with move and weapon combos. I also just like turning my brain off and hitting things to death. Ergo == Code Vein and Kingdom Hearts == a type of therapy.
