hawk222_1550644792 16 Posted October 3, 2024 Speaking of, why are the characters in so many rpgs always British in the English dubs??
hawk222_1550644792 16 Posted October 3, 2024 Seriously, it's odd
Otti#8624 26 Posted October 3, 2024 Are we talking about JRPGs?If we are talking about western then I think it's because it fits the genre betterBritish (and surrounding countries) english sounds better than the american ones in fantasyI am more curious as to why japanese stuff almost always gets dubbed in american english
hawk222_1550644792 16 Posted October 3, 2024 Yeah, talking more about jrpgs since this was from back during the metaphor chatLike, a lot of the more recent ff games are British in western releases

Limen 10 Posted October 3, 2024 Xenoblade 1 specifically has a British cast because it was originally picked up by a British localization team before Nintendo decided they like the series iirc
Limen 10 Posted October 3, 2024 so 2 and 3 probably just follow the same boat by picking up British talent
Otti#8624 26 Posted October 3, 2024 But this one also has the same team as 16, so kinda makes sense to me
Otti#8624 26 Posted October 3, 2024 I can't remember now, but did FF12 have the accents too2 was whack because for some reason they just had some american accents in there too
hawk222_1550644792 16 Posted October 3, 2024 See, 12 did, but primarily for the empire folks. In that case it made sense, as a way to differentiate between regions and whatnot. But if they're all British from the beginning, that's my focus
Limen 10 Posted October 3, 2024 oh i still haven't played them so i wasn't sure, but i did remember 3's trailer being british that's why i brought them up lol
raiden94 1 Posted October 3, 2024 Ff 12 was 50/50 about it iircI think the only American in that cast that was a main character anyway was Vaan.Black Myth Wukong's English dub was all British too I believe; and that was ChineseDragon Quest usually is too; it's fine to me, I think most of the time it works honestly.
