New horizons can be fun, but there are some glaring issues that past games didn't have (so it feels like regression). Despite that, it makes strides forward that those past games didn't have, and that's positive for future titles.
Of course, the issue that irks me the most is the fact that they ended updates/support for the game less than 2 years in. Just firetruckin' crammed everything into 1 big update and said "we're done, bye" (and so why would anyone still playing bother to stick around after that)

Imo it's hard to decide. There's good and bad on both sides. I will say it was probably better received overall (again, especially with how quickly acnh die out)
