Versus never materialised because of issues with SE as a whole

Crystal Tools wasn't a good engine, and the company had to divert resources into fixing FF14

Which meant people were also pulled from Versus to do other stuff

If Nomura was to blame for V13 taking so long they would have just moved him elsewhere, he was just the director, there was still staff and producers above him (Who did end up moving him so they could focus on getting FF15 and KH3 development going smoother)
