So here's my theory on that. Probably not much of one, but,

I think Luxu and Brain didn't actually merge at the end of UC. I think, Luxu transported Brain to Scala, and then at the end of Missing Link, then we'll see him take him over.

 

Adding onto that,

I kinda like the idea of never knowing what Luxu looks like. I like the idea that he's a faceless wanderer through time. Adds some mystique.

so like, are you suggesting a situation where luxu chills in brain's heart like ven did (but without the whole "healing" aspect)? Or more like a Jekyll/Hyde thing where luxu occasionally takes control of the shared body?

I think they’re saying

that they think Brain went into the future as himself, and after taking part in the events of Missing Link Luxu took over his body and the scene we see in UX takes place after that.

 

Missing Link better have the full conversation between Brain and Luxu that was cut off in UX

the first part. I think Luxu hid himself away in Brain's heart; like how in Lingering Will, it was initially implied it was Terra, and Eraqus' will inside the armor.

Then,

when the time was right, Luxu awakened and took over.

Alternatively,

maybe they both jumped through time, and, Luxu just waited in the shadows waiting for the right time to possess him; or maybe they worked out a deal of some sorts.

 

Being MoM's, let's just say, "special" apprentice, I have to imagine he can use higher tier magic similar to MoM, after all.

I'm not so sure tbh; the way they walk into the present say in 3's secret ending, it feels like for them very little time passed. We don't actually know what happened to them after The War, so maybe they either just jumped through time or were chilling in pocket dimensions

I’m not sure where they came from either. You’d think they were just chilling somewhere else, but they show up looking like they haven’t aged a day and are completely confused about what just happened.

Until the Union Cross finale, I thought maybe MoM had clued them in on something or whatever but, obviously not.

I was happy Dark Road clarified that Lost Masters referes to not just MoM and Luxu but also The Foretellers.

I had a feeling it did, but, I liked the confirmation.
