Back in the main KH server, there were many people who highly disliked him

The server even held a tournament where Sora got to 12th place and Roxas got to 1st place as the winner

I can't elaborate much right now cause work but here's my short of Sora
Dude has and always has been a good protag, going through a roller-coaster of emotions and stuff
But
The games after 2 really don't do him justice in his writing (until KH3RM)
Like, the LNs are so good for Sora cause you can read his thoughts and it's great

Basically sora gets the Goku treatment

Didn't Nomura confirm that the "bad ending" of the Yozora fight was just so that the player could get something out of it if they lost? Therefore making the "good ending" canon?

Also not only that, but we see that in the KH4 trailer, Sora is fine and well, so unless you're just speculating an AU where the bad ending was the canon ending, I don't think you gotta worry about the Guardians of Light finding Sora's practically dead body
