Vanitas parallels Mephiles (Sonic 06) and it bothers me.

Mephiles is literally born from Shadow’s shadow. Summons an army of shadow creatures, his appearance is based on another character, he’s fought with a magician character, while also having never met the main (and being the cause of his “death”), and then dies in a flurry of sparkles/smoke.

(For example, Knuckles being a badass then a dumbass)

(But we did get more badass Knuckles in Sonic movie 2 so that's great)
