I was talking to my friend about this the other day but, Kingdom Hearts does a whole lot of subverting aspects of FF and Disney's writings. In areas where a Square solution might be expected you get a Disney one. And each style is deconstructed

The more Final Fantasy aspects of character writing is seen as off putting and weird but the Disney elements are too innocent and simplistic

And no happy ending ever comes without a sacrifice- 3 builds up the that pretty well

I sincerely think 4 is gonna go even further in this direction cause thays where Nomuras narrative interests seem to lie.

They engineer it in such a way that, what happened in 2 is true, but also not at the same time
