The number above your head is a countdown similar to the Phantom from KH1. If he hits you that many times, even if you have health, game over. Just reflect and focus on defense while looking for an opening. Using the commands like Flare Force and Whirli Goof are great ways to do damage while invincible. And when he does the attack with the dark pools, stay on the outside and wait, it isn’t worth it.
