Ventus was his own guy, then somehow someway, Darkness got in there.

Idk how, and I didn't fully believe it until the DR Finale, but, somehow one of the Darknessess's got in Ventus' heart, and, Xehanort extracted it.

Maybe what we call Vanitas is the Darkness as an individual, or, the personality we know manifested over time. And since all the villains in 3 are time travelers, maybe Vanitas in 3 somehow had a bit more clarity but idk

Like I said, Vanitas is Ven's darkness, so it does technically make him part Ven.

If I had to guess, he grew that darkness from the events of UX.

Well where I get confused is, everyone has darkness in their heart, right?

So, maybe Darkness the entity mixed with Ventus' own natural darkness.

Another possibility is that Ven really is Ven's darkness, just, full stop, but somehow someway, before or after merging with Sora, Darkness the entity merged with Vanitas.

Adding onto this, Vanitas, until Ven merged with Sora, didn't have a face, supposedly.

Could be unimportant, could not be, hard to say.

The separation of Vanitas and Ventus rendered them both incomplete entities. Sora’s heart binding to Ventus somehow recompleted them both.

Hmm.... interesting

I wonder- cause this sounds like something Nomura would do: could Darkness have snuck into Sora's heart- somehow sensing his grander destiny?

And maybe why no one noticed was cause (and here comes the Nomura) the Darkness was DISGUISED as light.

I'll go a step further into insanity- the darkness disguised itself as light for so long, it eventually became light, or, uh, switched sides; not unlike hoe Nobodies can eventually grew/manifest new hearts.
