Okay. So. Hypothetically, if Vanitas were to be redeemed and join the GoL, he would be betraying the Darkness. He’s a creature made up of Ventus’s darkness and pure darkness. So if he were to side to the Light, he would a traitor to the Dark and, by loose extension, Xehanort himself. He’d be going against everything he was taught and everything he was supposed to be in order to be happy and live again.

This is, again, speaking in purely hypotheticals because we don’t know where Vanitas is because:

A.) Vanitas may or may not be residing inside Ventus’s heart. With Sora or Terra wanting to give him his own life, and not Ventus himself.

B.) Ventus’s heart healed and he’s a full person again, leaving Vanitas without a place to go to.

Spinning off of B, we have two side options:

B1.) He’s dead and residing in the Quadratum, might become a party member alongside Sora and Strelitiza.

B2.) He’s residing inside Sora’s heart and is a part of the Darkness that protects his light, as seen in the KH3 boss fight against Xehanort.
