Emphasis on ISH.

The christianization of "Christmas" is fake bc a "Mass for Christ" happens almost every time one goes to church and Jesus himself has been scientifically proven to have been born in the summer time.

Meanwhile, the actually pagan imagery if Christmas (I.E. pine trees, logs, ornaments, mistletoe, etc.) Are rooted in pagan holidays like Yuletide and the Winter Solstice.

If we're going off of science, it would make more sense if Modern-Day Christmas took place either during Beltane/May-Day (May 1st) or Litha (June 21st).

Santa is also fake-ish.

Modern-day Santa draw inspiration from two main figures: Saint Nicholas and the Holly King, which is another fascinating example of synchronism.

I mean, Santa Claus is also a capitalistic mascot, but those are his inspirations!

If you squint, you could speculate he's also based on Odin, but that's me speculating.

I should get this as a patch.

I swear I'm not pessimistic.

I mean not exclusively, but he's a part of some people's traditions or at least in there thoughts- my family is mostly catholic, and while it isn't a focus, it's there kind of in the background

THERE'S A WORM HOLE ATTACHED TO THAT TOO.

Oh my god I could talk about Easter and Christmas because they're FASCINATING.

Bc all the pagan symbolism is attached to Ostara, but is was originally a holiday for Aphrodite and Demeter (fertility and the crop season). But, because of the similarities in name, Easter was thought to be linked to Ishtar from Babylonian mythos, but there's very little evidence beside name similarities to confirm that.

Although, if you go down the rabbit hole long enough, you find out that Aphrodite was originally an off shoot of Ishtar through lots of specialized cults and local synchronism. But Easter is not connected to Ishtar in anyway.

Also, with fertility being such a big deal and egss being a part of that, I can make the joke that the Cave is the Egg and Jesus is the chicken hatching from it.

I can't spell eggs.

I'm fun at parties.

last year I gifted my mom a plush unicorn. This year she's gonna get a new toaster and an air cleaner which will hopefully help against her allergies

my mom has issues with it too but I don't leave her a choice

I think people value the idea of Santa more so than the implementation. The Rankin Bass film “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” does a good job explaining why.

The idea of Santa is that of a virtuous man who desires nothing more than for children to be happy and morally well adjusted

A lot of people (including myself) find that a very easy concept to get behind
