I started to change my approach in terms of fandoms after I experienced how people deal with it in FFXIV. Like in the XIV community people get really mad if you call the story in general shit. But in terms of expansion stories people don't really care that much. Like if you say that you like Shadowbringers more than Endwalker and you explain why most people will say "oh yeah I liked that part in Shadowbringers too but personally I prefer Endwalker because of...."

It just leads to so much healthier discussions

A certain part in Shadowbringers for example was very controversial but the perception changed over time because people replayed it and the game being so text-heavy caused people to miss some parts. Same for Endwalker btw. I think I have never had a very negative discussion regarding parts in XIV. I really love talking about the game and how other people feel about certain parts of the story
