The lore behind the name "estória" is that in English you have history and story, and the equivalents in Portuguese are "história" and "estória", but no one uses "estória" and you are laughed at if you do. História is used as the catch-all term

And now they are deadass using the word no one uses

Come on Uni. You've already stole my happiness, my time, my motivation to live and my energy; and now you're stealing my only semblance of originality as well?

Because that actually happened

Back in the day I commented in a Brazilian video and used the word "estória". The entire response thread was essentially everyone poking fun at me for using the word, and someone even used my use of it as "evidence" that I was of low intelligence.

I feel annoyed but also vindicated.

I don't know Otti, it's just silly.

I mean, to be fair, the word is technically an archaic version of história, but that's if you view it through the lenses of prescriptivism

In terms of descriptivism it has another meaning and it shouldn't be shunned because of it.

It's easier to debate the style than the substance

I don't even remember what my actual comment was about, all I remember is the fallout of my vocabulary choices.

This was also what, 5 years ago?
