Estoria#4001 19 Posted April 18, 2019 KH1 is big and open, while KH3 is big but actually closedWell, maybe not closedBut limited
Marluxia#4918 9 Posted April 18, 2019 3's design philosophy is vertical design
Novayon 192 Posted April 18, 2019 It's still linear, move where they don't want you and there's an invisible wall smacking your face. So there's the illusion of opennessAnd it is very verticalBut wall running makes it all simplistic as hell
Marluxia#4918 9 Posted April 18, 2019 And yeah its still got linearity but also the worlds in 1 are very interconnected
Estoria#4001 19 Posted April 18, 2019 Yeah, it makes it so that there's barely any platforming
Marluxia#4918 9 Posted April 18, 2019 Theres not a lot of rooms leading back into each other in
Novayon 192 Posted April 18, 2019 Yeah not really. I can forgive The Caribbean because it was going for something different, and it pulled it offBut the Islands themselves in the Caribbean? Still simple although there was some more open-endedness to them tbf
Marluxia#4918 9 Posted April 18, 2019 Whereas in 1 a lot of the worlds do tend to connect to each other. They're quite self contained. Whereas in 3 they seem to stretch on endlessly. At least the illusion of endless because most areas just go in one direction
Novayon 192 Posted April 18, 2019 YepA big space of emptiness is really no different from a small one
Marluxia#4918 9 Posted April 18, 2019 Yeah. Deep Jungle is really cool in how it connects into each area. The treehouse is essentially this one big umbrella covering all the areas below it. If you fall off the left hand side as you run in you will fall into clayton's boss arena. If you fall off the other end you end up in either the tunnel or treetops
Novayon 192 Posted April 18, 2019 Yeah, that's rightDespite the technical limitations, KH1 managed to make it feel like a single big areaEven if it's smoke and mirrors sometimesKH2 didn't try, it was a collection of rooms loosely joinedAnd KH3 does feel like big areas, but not ones you can choose your way through. It's still a directed path
Marluxia#4918 9 Posted April 18, 2019 Yeah level design is a major problem with 2. It's just a line of boxes placed beside one another
Liftea 12 Posted April 18, 2019 kh3 is linear open world
Novayon 192 Posted April 18, 2019 Obviously except BH6, Caribbean and Toy Box to a lesser extent
Marluxia#4918 9 Posted April 18, 2019 Carribbean definitely not. BG6 is a tough one because the game kind of forces you to take a very linear path but the world itself is quite freeThey really wanted you to kind of get the story over and done with in those 2 worlds I find. They are really short worlds and both of them direct you in a very strict manner so you never really explore the world
Novayon 192 Posted April 18, 2019 Yeah and I get it would be hard to replicate KH1's interconnectivity whilst keeping less loading screens. But they could have had more secrets, more little gimmicksNot just 10 cleverly designed lucky emblems and 80 slapped onto walls
Marluxia#4918 9 Posted April 18, 2019 I was excited when I started finding secrets at the start of the olympus, especially when we broke down the statue(unfortunately it was just a chest) but it was a sparkle of hopethat faded as I went onOmg yeah
