I DID IT!!

I've been playing all week but I pulled two all nighters and finally made it to the end!

I'll admit, it wasnt everything I wanted, especially on the character reunions and interactions front but it was a decent game.

Oddly, it felt too easy...especially for proud mode. I've tried proud play thoughs on other KH games and I never made it through from the shear frustration but this one was about where I'd expect standard mode to be. I even double checked after I was a few hours in that i was on proud.

It also felt rather....short...in comparison to like KH2. And the actually main story wasn't super compelling either. I doubt I'd ever restart it to play it all the way through again the way I've done for Days, KH2 and even CoM.

Soras story mostly felt like busy work, and nothing we did in the worlds seemed to have much to do with the plot the way it did in KH2. We were just sort of....there. And it's like: How is what we're doing supposed to help us get the power if waking?

The Org has tracked down some of the New Princesses oh no!! We'd better get a move on and find our guardians!

And then we proceed to not really do that except for Riku and Mickey whose story is so short even though it is a HUGE part of the plot.

Everything just sort of...happens...with very little build up.

I've read several other peoples take on it and I'm hearing similar...which...isnt great.

I especially wish they had given Axel Roxas abd Xions reunion more screen time and dialogue like they did with Terra Aqua and Ven.

It just hcuts away so suddenly with them hugging and crying and....i just really wanted to hear what they had to say to each other...after all this time T^T

I mean they built up to it!

That seemed to be a theme as I played:

Either not alot of build up for what's supposed to be a huge pay off

Or a lot of build up for what came to very little payoff.

Which all makes me sad.

There were some great moments, some OMG NO WAY! moments, and yes it made me happy cry like 3 separate times...but there seemed to be a lot of missed opportunities, and not as tightly and interconnectedly written a story this time....

I really hoped it would be on par with KH2 but in several ways it feels like a step back in story telling.

I'm guessing since it was the end of the Xehanort Saga, they were kind of lazy with it.

Spoiler

I do have to agree with you on quite a few of the points. I see this game as more of a bridge than an ending. It has a finality of the arc, but not the story. While that was never really going to be the case they could have done more to it too. For me I kinda felt the Axel/Xion/Roxas reunion went just how it should have. What else would you really be able to do in a time where two people were, for all intents and purposes, no longer existing. One of them was LITERALLY erased from memories. Suddenly being reunited and remembering eachother after what had to feel like an absolute eternity... helping Sora and then having a good group cry would be something I can fully imagine later. Talking can happen later, happy tears first :) With Aqua/Terra/Ven, they kinda had a different system going on. Terra was always kinda the rock, none of them were really overly emotional. Aqua only really cried minorly and Ven is.. well... optimistic to a fault, like Sora. So them talking while letting their emotions out felt to me as a more natural thing with them, especially in contrast to the Seasalt trio.

I do agree that there were quite a few things that could have used more buildup. Sora should have been able to get his power back faster than he did in a way, we didn't really see it develop AT ALL in the entirety of the game until the "Oh no! Ven you need to wake up!" kind of thing.

The thing I will say is that they focused A LOT on building in the background for future titles. The Maleficent plot, the Luxu plot, the Mysterious Girl and Nameless Star, the whole thing of getting these characters back in the first place, learning that the Princess of Heart had passed on their gift to NEW Princesses rather than still retained it. There was a ton of stuff going on that kinda melded into the background as you went through and AFTER. If you haven't gotten to much after, I definitely recommend doing the Battle Gates. They give you TONS of lore to dissect. They help put a lot of what happened into a better perspective as well IMO. :)

Sorry for the wall of text ^_^;

Congrats on finishing the game already! And on Proud Mode too.I gotta catch up and finish the game myself! Seems like everyone's near done but me. I still have like two more Disney Worlds to do before I even get to the endgame goodies XD

You'll get there! :D It isn't a race, so don't feel the need to rush at all :) I spent a good 50 hours before I cleared the game because I ran around and explored and just enjoyed it. I've put another 10 hours in since then as well ^_^ Take things at your own pace and you can never go wrong with that when it comes to your enjoyment of it.

What LunaCatte said! It's not a race! I rushed to the finish near the end and barely explored the last two worlds. Take your time and really experience the game. You'll only ever finish this game for the first time once. Make it count the way you want it to!

LOL, that is totally what I do as well. I love running around and exploring the worlds and running up stuff and finding new secrets. I sometimes get lost in the world because they are so big and it's just a adventure to remember where I've been. It's been very enjoyable :D

I will. It's actually going to be quite a while before I finish the game because I always do deep exploring into each world. And since I'm on Proud Mode I always set myself at a certain level before heading out to new worlds so there is level grinding and finding the best spots for level grinding too :D

I'm still not done (I'm at Arendelle) but I'm naughty and I did look at some stuff (which might be a good thing or a bad thing) but from what I have seen and from what I have played so far I mostly agree with a lot of the complants, but I really should be cautious about what I say cause I still have to actually finish the game and my opinions might change about some things. But as of right now where I am actually in the game....

Spoiler

The pacing is very weird. Don't get me wrong there is many things to enjoy about the game but the overall story is very....I don't know how to put it....weird?
