Normally when I buy swimwear for my friend as a gift: For female friends - one piece swimsuit For male friends - beach/board shorts And also include diving mask I don't buy bikini for my female friends due to too revealing. To your question of course you can buy a swimsuit as a gift. I think a swimsuit is too personal of an item to be purchasing for a girl, especially if you are of the opposite gender. Maybe a gift card so that this person could purchase their own swimwear?
