Issue with master Xehanorts age

Recommended Posts

Ok so I’m new here but I have been an avid follower of this site and a player of the kingdom hearts series since the beginning.  If this has been posted earlier I apologize but one thing that has been bugging the hell out of me is the difference in age between mx and master eraqus.  In the recent trailers we can see them both playing chess together and they look about the same age.  Nomura said that young x is about 20 and master x is about 80.  This confuses me because clearly we can see that yx and young master eraqus look about the same age.  My question is how if this is the case then how is mx about 80 and master eraqus not.  He looks about 50 I’d say.  Even givin it a long shot we can speculate that master eraqus is maybe 60.  Even still it doesn’t match up.  Eraqus is not 80 or close to it and if they basically grew up together and trained together then why isn’t master eraqus the same age.  The only conclusion I can come up with is the mx travelin through the darkness and accepting it has greatly aged his body.  Please let me know if this has been explained before and if so I apologize but I can’t find anything on this and it’s bugging my ocd bad lol

I made a thread about the age confusion.   I do think the two keyblade masters' ages might have been affected by them either being a light user or a dark user.  I do wonder how darkness can potentially age someone up.  I also think that MX's age might have been affected because he visits more world's than Eraqus does.

I think Young Eraqus actually looks a little younger than Young Xehanort. I'd say Young Eraqus is like 14-15. That would still make him like 74-75 in BBS and that doesn't make much sense so yeah...I don't know. It is very weird.

Yeah Nomura hasn’t been to clear about that at all.  Is it really that important not really but it’s def weird lol.

MX and Eraqus seem to be opposites of each other.  Maybe their physical age represents their opposing ideals.  Eraqus was an extremist that wanted to wipe darkness out completely through use of light and MX wanted both light and darkness to coexist but at the same time allowed his obsession for Kingdom Hearts to screw his perceptions of light and darkness being on equal footing.

This idea kind of reminds me of how the dark side of the force in Star Wars can make you look older than you actually are sometimes. I believe Nomura has said that he does like Star Wars and Star Trek, so I don't know? Could be a possiblity.

As stated above by LostArtis, he could've just gotten lucky and aged really well. I personally think he's slightly younger than Xehanort but just looks younger than he actually is.

Maybe Nomura is also interested in mythology.   The light and dark debacle is pretty common in many religions and mythologies.

I know and a lot, lot more media has done this and it's more than just Star Wars that has done this. Ideals like this have pretty much shaped our world for centuries. Nomura interested mythology is very plausible. It's just the statment  of darkness making him physically older that Eraqus since Eraqus follows the light in particular made me think of it is all. It also made me think of the fact that people tend to equate light with beauty and darkness with rot a lot.

Has Nomura ever clarified MX and Eraqus's ages? I know that he said that MX is like in his eighties.  What about Eraqus though?

Eraqus's age was never stated. He talked about MX's age during a Q and A at TGS. The fan asking the question only asked how old Terra, Aqua, Ventus, MX, and YX were.

I mean, it is possible that Eraqus might be a few years younger than MX.  If MX is like 81 then perhaps Eraqus is like 78 or something.

It's a fair estimate. I just wish somebody would ask Nomura or Shinji how old he is in like an interview or something. Although, interviews are usually used for a lot more vast questions and less for small details. Would still be nice for some sort of confirmatiom.

I don't think Nomura actually cares about specifying age.   The last few times I saw him do that was with KH2 and KH1 and that was only for the main characters.   Eraqus does look handsome for a guy in his late 70s if he is in that age range.

Probably not. Even the "Oh, I don't know. 80 or something?" line made him sound like he was joking a bit. He probably only thinks It's important to specify Riku, Kairi, and Sora's ages. That's usually how it is to for a lot of main characters. Heh, he does look good for his age. I'll admit that.

Yeah,  plus it does get harder to tell someone's age as they get older like in their sixties or something.   Nomura's comment could be him just guessing like we are now.

Xehanort's like Sora in that regard, he has many hearts in him but Sora isn't aged like MX.

I think he's regarding the theory that Xehanort was being controlled by someone else based on his grey eyes in the opening. I just don't like this theory because I really don't want the bad guy of the entire series to turn out to be just a puppet being used by someone else. Unless I'm wrong. Xehanort is the exact opposite though. He has pieces of his heart in 12 different people instead of having all their hearts inside of him. That's unless he combines all their hearts into one body in the process of creating the X-blade. Even so, as you said, Sora would be aging fast as well.

We already had that pulled on us in KH1.

Basically. I dunno. Xehanort, the master mind behind everything, being just a puppet just leaves me with bad taste in my mouth. Sometimes this trope just doesn't work for me.

I mean, it would also absolve MX of his faults since he was under the control of someone this entire time.  Plus if he does have the thing that possessed him knocked out, wouldn't he go back to looking a few years younger probably looking around the same age as Eraqus?

They could do it if they really wanted to make him a sympathetic villian. Hmm. Dunno. Whether or not he'd stay like that if his possessor leaves him and  if this is true would be a mystery. This case is also slightly different from Riku and Sora since Riku wouldn't have been possessed as long as Xehanort would've been and Sora is just straight up not being possessed by any of the people in his heart, since they are all pretty much either benevolent or asleep and probably wouldn't think of possessing him for the most part. All the vessels all are a little different too since they aren't really "possessed" per-say and still have all their personalities intact. The only thing that's different is their eyes and sometimes their hair.

It's just really confusion with rather MX is actually possessed and if that is in part due to why he looks older than Eraqus.  If he did get his demon exorcised from his body.  I hope he remains his same age and not just go back to looking like the young gray eyed and white haired Xehanort we saw in the KH3 trailers.  Plus, I hope they show more of MX actually possessing them then people actually taking on his appearance.
