Scsigs 119 Posted September 8, 2018 (edited) So, this question has been rattling around my brain for a while. Should people play the full games rather than just watching the cinematics from thee 1.5+2.5 HD collection? From what I know, 358/2 Days, while it has a good story, the game is VERY repetitive & isn't really worth playing as a game. I mean, I've heard defenses of it, but the fact that it's 30 hours long, yet most of that time is spent just with RNG missions that aren't any different than the levels they're rehashing. re:Coded, from what I can also tell, is just not that good. Watching its cinematics, the game is basically like Chain of Memories, which rehashes basically everything from the first game with a framing device to explain it. It was also thought up when Nomura was drunk one night. It doesn't even get that interesting until the last 1/3 of the story, where it sets up Birth By Sleep. There's something of a curse with the handheld games, which I've made a thread on before, where they're hit or miss, with Chain of Memories, 358/2 Days, & re:coded being misses for one reason or another, Birth By Sleep is a hit, & Dream Drop Distance varies depending on the person, though those 2 actually add stuff to the universe outside of backstory or stuff that's set up for the next game. But are 358 & re:Coded worth playing? I wanna know. Edited September 8, 2018 by Scsigs 6 NadolahQ, LasirDM, GoracW and 3 others reacted to this
VocaloidLover13 165 Posted September 8, 2018 I played both of them on my Nintendo and I don't regret it. It was quite fun. But if you're only interested in the story, I believe that the cinematics are just enough. About playing them before KHIII, even though I still own both games I am not considering on playing them again. I have never played the original version of Chain of Memories, so I don't know the differences. But I know that KH Re:coded and KHDays are both different from each other and very distant in terms of gameplay from KH Re:chain of memories. For KH Re:coded I remember that I found it a little repetitive but I still finished it. For the KHDays, it was better off for me. Fighting new heartless and such. I liked them both. DJ369 183 Posted September 8, 2018 (edited) In my opinion, Re: Coded and 358/2 Days are complete opposites of each other. 358/2 Days had a great story, but the gameplay was bad, and Re: Coded had a forgettable story, but the gameplay was actually fun. I think Re: Coded had the best Command deck in the series, next to BBS. It's up to you, but if I were you, I would just watch the cinematics on the HD Collections. Dracozombie 4,554 Posted September 8, 2018 Won't speak for coded since I'm not too familiar with it, but the original Days fleshes out a lot of things that the movie missed, mainly the interactions between the characters and Roxas's development. Only problem is that if you're not a fan of Days's gameplay, it's a chore to slog through. Ah well, that's what Everglow's videos are for, to give you the best of both worlds. 2 Dr. Shimo and The Transcendent Key reacted to this
Movies798 1,358 Posted September 8, 2018 In my opinion, 358/2 Days may have repetitive missions but the story is pretty damn good. In my opinion, 358/2 Days is one of the better side-stories in the Kingdom Hearts series. Roxas time with the organization, his friendship with Xion and Axel, the bond and strained relationship between Axel, Roxas, and Xion, more depth to the other Organization members, and Roxas character development as the story progresses. I actually like the gameplay in 358/2 Days, it was different but at least it wasn't bad or annoying like Chain of Memories gameplay. Plus, 358/2 Days cinematic scenes in 1.5 did skipped some scenes of Roxas character development. I remember Nomura said that 358/2 Days cinematic cutscenes in 1.5 were only 70% of the game's story. Honestly, I say tried and play 358/2 Days before Kingdom Hearts 3. Plus, judging the Kingdom Hearts 3 trailers it would seem that Roxas is going to play pivotal role in Kingdom Hearts 3. So if new players wanted to fully know about Roxas I say tried 358/2 Days on the DS or 3DS. As for Re:Coded I will say that Re:Coded's gameplay was very fun but the story is second weakest in the Kingdom Hearts franchise, after Kingdom Hearts Union x. Re:Coded may not have an engaging story but between Re:Coded and Union I say Re:Coded is a little more interesting than Union x. Union x is so damn repetitive and the main story takes way too long to get update. In my opinion, Re:Coded as a cinematic cutscene in 2.5 is all the new players need to understand. Plus, they added two new cutscenes in 2.5 that's connected to both Dream Drop Distance and Kingdom Hearts 3. I would just watch the cutscene in 2.5. 2 EchoFox23* and The Transcendent Key reacted to this

I agree the movie about coded covers the story pretty well but in days there are some lines of dialof between axel and roxas that give the story a more significant punch
Isaix 924 Posted September 8, 2018 Nah I wouldn't recommend both games to newcomers,I enjoyed Days, but gameplaywise it was very repetitive, the cutscenes on 1.5 and 2.5 tells you everything you need to know.
KingdomHearts3 2,591 Posted September 8, 2018 If you want to catch up the quick way with both of these, I wouldn’t bother playing them. Rather either though YouTube or HD1.5+2.5 watch the cutscene movies for them. A lot faster than playing the games. If you want to play them, have at it. Allwil13 754 Posted September 8, 2018 I enjoyed playing both games. They're in no way bad. However, there are elements of both that I found can take away from the experience of playing them. Days has the panel system which I never liked, and re:Coded's story is pretty boring until the last leg. I think the games are fun to play aside from those elements, though. But I wouldn't blame anyone if they decide to just watch the HD cinematics.
ReverofE 698 Posted September 9, 2018 Honestly, I never even found Day's story all that compelling and imo hurts the plot that KH2 already established. Oh yeah and the gameplay is boring too. Re:Coded on the other hand does have the best command deck though.
The Transcendent Key 12,109 Posted September 9, 2018 Well, as someone who's played both games, I would say that if you have the chance to play them, you should play through them at least once, ya know? I enjoyed both Days and Re:Coded, but when it comes to the Cinematics in the ReMixes, Days suffers a bit because there's no battle scenes except for the final boss, and there are bits of the story missing! Re:Coded, on the other hand, you can actually watch the cinematics without worrying over missing something, because Re:Coded was complete, ya know? Really, it's all up to you, in the end! 1 Movies798 reacted to this
VisitJoan 2,713 Posted September 10, 2018 I would say yes for Days and no for Re:Codded. Days was the first Kingdom Hearts game I ever played and I honestly enjoyed it. I never got tired of it or found it repetitive. There were two really hard bosses that were annoying to defeat, however. I also like how the Disney characters took a backseat and the main focus was on the original characters. If you don’t like mission based games then this game isn’t for you. But when you’re playing, you really feel like you are Roxas and are doing work for the Organization. Re:Codded is pretty much a replay of Kingdom Hearts. Yes, the overall story is different, but I’m pretty sure they just rehash the same movies again. For some reason, I never really liked Jiminy Cricket, and it was weird whenever he would pop out of nowhere in CoM. So a whole game based on his journal is not my cup of tea. I got everything I needed to from watching the cutscenes on YouTube.
