The direct selection of COM/Days/BBS/Re:coded is functional (and probably the best because of it) but also kind of boring.

Still haven't played the first game but apparently Gummi Ships there are terrible.

I think I like II's version the best. The Gummi Ship missions there aren't too difficult and act as good palette cleansers to break up the normal action. Plus the music rocks.

Personally, I like the Gliders from Birth by Sleep the best. They gave the Keyblade another layer of functionality and they weren't quite so childish as the Gummi Ship. I also just dislike the Gummi Ship segments because they felt rather boring but since they were obligatory, there was no way around them.

I don't hate the Gummi Ship but it's not exactly my cup of tea and I'm rather fond of agile vessels. (Although the need for three people or more is there. I just never felt the need for customization with gummi blocks... I lked playing with them as a child but that was a little too colorful for me.)

I think the gliders were the best option for travel because like Merilly said, "It gave the keyblade another layer of functionality and weren't quite as childish."

I hear you.  I personally prefer the mission select of Days but I still prefer the gliders because it at least didn't feel as infantile and dull compared to the other worlds.  However, I preferred the Organization and now Union Cross's mode of travel because it's quicker and you don't have to go through a routine.  You just snap or hold your keyblade and you're instantly where you need to be.

That's true. It's a much faster mode of transportation but I guess those two games could justify those methods better since the Organization uses the darkness to get around which is not bound by restrictions apparently and KHUX was still playing at a time where the worlds were not separated and shut off by walls.

I still prefer those two overall simpoy for their convenience but the Gliders were a neat little thing, especially since they did not have that many battles and were just used for some cutscenes.

The Gummi Ship is something I found okay as a child and for KH1, but after that, it just felt very out of place somehow when much more convenient travel alternatives were shown and even the Disney villains weren't using such a... colorful toy. The blueprints in 2 were a little better but it still gives off the impression of pre-school activities. When I saw it in UE4, that impression grew even stronger because it simply does not fit in with the rest of the visuals anymore in my opinion. I'm not sure they eveb like the designs that much anymore so mayhe the customization will give it a different look. Nomura is a fan of mecha after all so maybe it will become a little different if the player wants it.

True, there's also the fact that unlike the gliders, it's not just you traveling.  You have other people traveling with you, mainly Dale, Jiminy, Chip, Goofy and Donald.  Plus, I wonder if Nomura was a fan of the gliders.  He could still bring them back but since Goofy and Donald are nearly inseparable from Sora, there might need a better mode of transportation for them.  I imagine a motorcycle transformation for Sora's keyblade that could have an additional two side seats for Goofy and Donald.  Heck, they could get their own ride like Mickey did in BBS where he got teleported to different worlds with that star/wayfinder thing (I forgot what it was called).

I loved the building of Gummi Ships and I actually enjoyed the different ways I could tinker and customize it over the travel and gameplay of the routes between Worlds. It still holds a appeal for me and I for one am very happy to see the return of Gummi sections in KH3. I loved unlocking better weapons and parts over the course of the game and it added another sense of depth to KH that seemed a great, if quirky edition to games that already had deep progression, particularly regarding KH2.

I LOVE the gummi ships mission in KH2. I find it far more fun and the customizing is incredibly fun to do (plus having the gummi ship mission at the world that never was look like a Star Wars battle is a huge plus for me).

However, the gliders in BbS is at least gets to the point without having to do missions required to enter a world
