Kingdom Hearts III Worlds Discussion (DISNEY•PIXAR and Original Worlds)

Recommended Posts

When Kingdom Hearts III had the Monsters Inc Trailer revealed at D23 Japan, back in February, Square held a Kingdom Hearts Fan Event, in which Tetsuya Nomura (KH Series Director) and Shinji Hashimoto (KH Series Executive Producer) describe the development process for the worlds. They disclosed information about how they went about the process of bringing DISNEYPIXAR and original worlds to the game. Now I bring this up because with all of the recent world reveals at E3 2018, it got me thinking about how Square categorized the development of these worlds by 3 tiers of completion (early, middle, and late development).

I want to discuss the other potential worlds that will round up Kingdom Hearts 3, give a personal opinion of how the order of the worlds will play out, as well as just reading some of your guys' opinions about the KH3 worlds.

As of the recent trailer (Sony E3 2018 KH3 "Pirates of the Caribbean" Trailer), here are all of the confirmed worlds we have so far:

                       -Twilight Town/Mysterious Tower

                       - Mt. Olympus/Town Near Thebes (Hercules)

                       - Kingdom of Corona (Tangled)

                       - San Fransokyo (Big Hero 6)

                       - Toy Box (Tox Story)

                       - Monstropolis (Monsters Inc.)

                       - Arendelle (Frozen)

                       - The Caribbean (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End/ ***probable*** Dead Man's Chest)

Numerous sources say that the world count of KH3 would differentiate, as there will be less DISNEYPIXAR worlds compared to KH2, but will include more depth and immersive environments in these worlds. The total number of worlds in KH2 rounds up to 15-17 worlds, 12-14 of these worlds are DISNEYPIXAR properties.

Around the Kingdom Hearts community, the suggested range of worlds seems to be unanimous, for the most part, around nine DISNEYPIXAR worlds. So far, we have seven confirmed DISNEYPIXAR, which leaves about two more DISNEYPIXAR worlds that have yet to be announced. With that in mind, my personal opinion seems to be that Jungle Book will find its way towards the worlds' lineup. Due to the numerous attempts at trying to bring Jungle Book to the series (ex. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep, dive world in Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance), it would seem that there's a higher chance of seeing the movie in KH3. Now as far as the last and ninth world goes, it's debatable; my personal opinion is to bring in a movie/franchise that has appeal or familiarity with it. Some want Treasure Planet/Atlantis introduced to the series, while others would want to bring back older worlds that made appearances from previous titles (Agrabah, Halloween Town, Neverland, Pride Lands, 100 Acre Woods, Atlantica [no comment], etc.). With Square Enix and DISNEYPIXAR being so unpredictable at times, the last DISNEYPIXAR is up for grabs. For the sake of this discussion, I'm going to predict Disney Castle makes a comeback as it was mainly featured in KH1 and KH2.

As for the original worlds, besides Twilight Town/Mysterious Tower, I can expect Destiny Islands, the Dark Realm, Radiant Garden, Daybreak Town, and of course, the Keyblade Graveyard to appear in KH3. I can imagine Square finding ways to implement The World that Never Was and Castle Oblivion as those worlds are also crucial to the plot of the game.

The total number of worlds can be at a max of 20 worlds (I feel 20 worlds seem a lot, especially with the massive environment of the worlds. Also, I feel that 20 is a good number for the amount of worlds, as it could be a representation of the foretold battle of the 13 Seekers of Darkness and Seven Pure Guardians of Light/Seven Princesses' of Hearts...whoops, I'm getting sidetracked.)

***Leave a reply as I'm curious as to what others believe the other two DISNEYPIXAR worlds will be.***

Another perspective I want to tackle is the order of which the DISNEYPIXAR worlds will be presented to us in the game. As I mentioned earlier, there was a Kingdom Hearts Fan Event where Tetsuya Nomura explains the breakdown of the development of these worlds. At the event panel, Nomura described the order of the worlds by categorizing them in three separate tiers with three worlds per tier based on the development stage the world is at (early, middle, late development). Here's my personal opinion of the DISNEYPIXAR world order based on the developmental tiers described by Nomura (percentages were based at the time of the Kingdom Hearts Fan Event):

Tier 1 (Early Development- 90% completed):

               - Mt. Olympus/Town Near Thebes

               - Toy Box

               - Monstropolis

Tier 2 (Middle Development- 60-70% completed):

               - Kingdom of Corona

               - Arendelle

               - The Caribbean

Tier 3 (Late Development- unknown % completion):

               (insert DISNEYPIXAR property)

               (insert DISNEYPIXAR property)

               - San Fransokyo

Guessing out the organization of the DISNEYPIXAR worlds for KH3 would be hard to figure out at first, but there are some indicators to guide you towards comprehending a list.

Based on the events of the Dengeki PlayStation interview with Tetsuya Nomura and the epilogue "2.9 — The First Volume" from Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep: A Fragmentary Passage, Sora, Donald and Goofy start out in Twilight Town at the Mysterious Tower to discuss the upcoming final battle. From there, the gang is told by Yen Sid to use and follow Sora's heart as a "guiding key" to find a gateway to the next destination, to regain all the abilities lost from Dream Drop Distance. From that, the gateway leads to Mt. Olympus, as the gang will seek the guidance from Hercules. Taking an educated guess, it would seem as Toy Box will follow (taking a suggestion from the KH3 Premiere Event demo menu) and Monstropolis after that (based on leaks that suggest Square has been working on Monsters Inc. since 2015). Those three worlds round out the first tier of worlds as they seem to be more completed, fleshed out, and showcased more than the other worlds.

The second tier of worlds (middle development) seems to be a little more challenging to decipher, but we have some clues to help ease the challenge. The world of Tangled, announced back at E3 2015, seems to logically the first world of the second tier, as it was first brought up to KH3, especially at 2015, where we got to see new content besides Twilight Town and the Hercules world. Due to complications with programming Rapunzel's hair, it prevented Square from showcasing more gameplay of the Kingdom of Corona. The next two worlds were kinda iffy to place in order after Tangled, but there could be a way to help form a suggestion. Tangled was released in the year 2010. Following in 2013, Frozen was introduced to the big screen and captivated millions of people, as well as becoming DISNEYPIXAR's highest grossing film in their distribution. There's been theories, opinions, suggestions, etc . that are thought up by numerous people believing Tangled and Frozen are intertwined. (WARNING SPOILERS) In Frozen, there's the scene where the townsfolk of Arendelle, as well as other neighboring kingdoms, make their way towards the castle in honor of the upcoming coronation of Queen Elsa. If you pay attention closely, Rapunzel (with the haircut and lost of the magical, blonde hair) and Flynn Rider can be seen briefly. From that little scene and the release dates of these two films, one can hypothesize that the order goes from visiting the Kingdom of Corona to Arendelle. Visiting those two worlds first after visiting the Tier 1 worlds seem logical and fitting, in which Sora, Donald, and Goofy travels to those DISNEYPIXAR' worlds after. There's uncertainty of the last world of the Tier 2 worlds, as it could be up in the air. My personal belief is that the world of the returning franchise of Pirates of the Caribbean, The Caribbean, will follow right after. I'm taking a stab in the dark (haha darkness lol) and saying that since The Caribbean was announced a day after Arendelle was revealed, it would fill the last slate in the Tier 2 worlds.

The order of the Tier 3 worlds is very iffy, as the only clue we have is the world of Big Hero 6, San Fransokyo. At D23 2015, Big Hero 6  is the last world that Square Enix and DISNEYPIXAR confirmed would round up the DISNEYPIXAR world lineup. It makes sense that it would be in Tier 3 as the only content in regards to the Big Hero 6 announcement was concept art of Sora riding on Baymax in the San Fransokyo skies, facing against a "dark-possessed" Baymax that was left in the portal from the film. The other worlds that go before Big Hero 6 is a mystery, and we will have to see what the other properties are in the near future.

With all that in mind, I'm pretty excited about what Kingdom Hearts 3 holds for fans and gamers come January 29 next year. Here are my two cents on the topic about the DISNEYPIXAR worlds in KH3. Feel free to comment or put any other speculation, opinions, etc. as I want to read what others have to say. Feel free to correct me on information I messed up on, as well as add any other news, information, etc. that I didn't include. Below is a Photoshopped mock-up I made of the potential world map of KH3. Enjoy and let's keep the hype train going!

Pretty good guesses. I'm a little iffy on how many original worlds are gonna be included (Twilight Town and Mysterious Tower might be included as one, Destiny Islands is a bit of a 50/50 etc.) I can definitely see this though.
