Anime | Manga In search of some good anime recommendations

Recommended Posts

That's quite a range o.o

But all immensely gold choices. I'd say if you like Gundam, you may be interested in Eureka Seven. It's a more lighthearted mecha anime, but still quite emotional especially towards the end. However it's quite slow at the beginning, but once you get past maybe the first five episodes it's an incredibly sweet story about a boy trying to make his mark on the world

Also this is quite an old one, but I feel Pandora Agent has a similar vibe to Death Note. They're both quite psychological in a way, but it's been a long time since I watched it so i don't have all the info.

Edit: here's one out of left field for you, but if you enjoyed death note you might like Bakuman, which is made by the same duo. It's a completely different anime series, it's a slice of life about two aspiring manga writers, but it's so firetrucking good.

So let me start by saying that I didn't used to like anime for a long time, but then I came across some gems and am now quite the fan.  Here are some that I like, to give you an idea of my taste:

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Death Note

Erased

Aldnoah.Zero

Gundam Wing

Fate/Stay Night (and rest of Fate series)

Yu-Gi-Oh (nostalgia reasons)

I've tried Code Geass but I just couldn't get myself into it, though I know that it is popular and well loved.  Does anyone have some suggestions on what I may like that is similar to the ones that I mentioned?  Thanks!

Great choices, great choices indeed!

Oh, and trust me, you've entered a wonderful world which I'm sure you'll fall in love with even more as time goes by! There's so many amazing anime series, and more keep coming out every time, so there's no end to the boundless and countless stories there are to experience! Off the top of my head, let me at least mention three I'm sure you'd like!

My Hero Academia: This anime is about a young boy named Izuku Midoriya, who wishes to become a hero, despite not having powers, which in the anime are referred to as quirks. 80 percent of the population has quirks, but he's one person that didn't end up having one. But even so, he believes that without powers, he can still become a hero, and he always looks up to All Might, his hero and inspiration! I won't say anymore for the sake of keeping you curious, but let me just say that this anime is pure gold, and it's been said that this might be one of the next big shonen anime series of this generation! And rightfully so, because the animation, voice acting, story, characters, music and overall quality are top notch, and I'm sure you'd love it! Oh, and it's a super hero genre kind of anime, so there's that, too! You should definitely give it a watch! :D

Your Lie In April: This is a slice of life anime about a young prodigy named Kousei Arima, who is skilled at playing the piano, but for specific reasons, he fell out of love with playing the piano, and he slowly drew away from it. But when he meets Kaori Miyazono, he finds in her a kindred spirit, one whom loves music, and she plays the violin. She spurs Kousei on, encouraging him to play the piano again, and what follows is an emotional, heartwarming journey filled with feels and the most gorgeous music you'll hear in anime! Seriously, the soundtrack this anime carries is god tier level! X_X

Death Parade: Oh, this anime is one I highly recommend! It's one I'm sure you'll love, and one you'll probably digest and analyze deeply, as it deals with the concept of death and the afterlife! You see, this anime is about a place called Quindecim, a bar that is a sort of limbo for people who die. But here's the catch! The people that come into this place have no memory of dying, and Decim, the bartender, invites them to play a series of games, and through these games, Decim silently analyzes them and sees how their true colors unfold. Based on the results of the game's outcome and how it leaves the two people in question, they are either reincarnated or sent to oblivion. It's an anime that's psychological in the sense that it'll leave you thinking a lot, it'll make you think about life, and the different pairs of people that come each episode really stick! They have relatable situations that could strike home! AND THIS ANIME HAS AN EPIC ENDING SONG THAT SENDS SHIVERS DOWN MY SPINE EVERY TIME I HEAR IT! <3

But yeah, these are just three among more or less 70 to 80 anime series I've watched! Hope these I mentioned pique your interest! :3

I am not that into anime so on top of my head I can reccomend only One piece (even though I stopped watching it years ago) that should keep you busy for a long time. My other woulde earth girl arjuna its a beautifull anime (13 episodes sadly) about earth and the problems of modern civilisation I would say you should watch it for the soundtrack alone could not find any digital copy of it but thank god there are CDs of the entire album. My last recommendation its on netflix and there is only one season as of now and they are taking their sweet time but I think it cant take that long anymore until int continues.

Not sure if you enjoy animes for their deep plots or for the action, but here's my list:

-Inuyasha

(it's a bit long and the plus is not very deep, but it's a lot of fun and the action is great)

-Naruto

-Hunter X Hunter

(Those two have a really good balance between a good story and great action and fun,Hunter X Hunter is not too long, but Naruto is very long)

-Parasyte

-Code Gease

(These are the ones with a great and deep story,Parasyte is very short and Code Gease is not very long too,is really awesome, you should try to give it an other chance if you can,it gets really good

Yeah, I apologize; I probably should've stated what I liked about these series and what I'm looking for in a new one.  I loved the aforementioned series for their suspense, intrigue, and the way that they make you think.  I also loved the story and (for the most part) their characters.  Pandora Agent would probably be right up my alley, though I'll try to give Bakuman and Eureka Seven a look over as well.  I'm not usually one for Slice of Life, but considering it's written by the creators of Death Note I feel that it might have some potential.  Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks for the suggestions, Key!  I am very impressed by the expansive library of anime that you've watched.  That should earn a medal there. xD

I realize that I should've been a bit more specific in my original post, which I will probably edit to reflect what I liked about each anime and give an example of some genres that I typically dislike.

I've heard of My Hero Academia, though I don't much about it, sad to say.  It sounds like it is well-loved, from what you're sharing, and it might we worth checking into. :). I'm not normally one for Slice of Life and I actually have seen bits and pieces of Your Lie in April, but it sounds like it has a sweet story if looking beyond some of the more slightly cliche moments.  Death Parade sounds very intriguing and very much up my alley--I'll have to check this one out!

Thanks again for taking the time to give some recommendations and to describe each one!  I found this very useful. :)

I might recommend Jyu-Oh-Sei, Ushio to Tora, and so on.

I looked up both, and they sound quite interesting.  Jyu-Oh-Sei sounds like it has a bit of mythology intertwined, and Ushio to Tora just sounds unique.  Kind of reminding me of Samurai Jack in the way that it's episodic in nature and centralizes on different battles.  Thanks for the recommendations!

I have heard of One Piece and decided to take a quick look at it after you mentioned it, and good gosh, this series is HUGE!  It's on its I think 17th season, each with 32 or so episodes, and has been airing since 1997.  Talk about wow!  As you said, it would definitely keep me busy for a long while, though I'm rather intimidated by its sheer length.  Earth Girl Arjuna sounds like it might be quite interesting.  What is the series on Netflix that you were referring to?  I wonder if it's one that I tried.

All-in-all, thanks for the suggestions!

I really should've elaborated on why I liked the above anime and what I'm looking for in a series.  I apologize for that; I'll probably edit my original post to reflect this.  Essentially I love the deep plots and characterization, as I feel the storytelling can be far better than a lot of Western media.  Action is sometimes nice but I'm not real big on it.  I've seen a bit of Naruto, though couldn't fully immerse myself into it.  I also did try Inuyasha and did like what I had seen of it, especially the fact that it's a real old-school anime.  Maybe I should delve back into that one sometime. :)

Does Code Geass get more involved with its characters over time?  I'm on episode three or four, and I just couldn't feel myself developing a connection with the characters or its story.  Everything felt so impersonal and on the surface.  I'm wondering if I would indeed like it once I get past more episodes, however.  I've heard so much praise for the series, and it does fall into a category that I typically like.  Parasyte sounds very interesting, though definitely creepy (which makes sense, since it's classified as a horror series).  I'll try to give it a go at some point!  Thanks for your suggestions. :)

In Code Gease,I'd say that the 2 main characters are well developped and a few around them, but the rest not so much, but the story is really good,if you like good stories this is a must watch I'd say,it kinda reminded me of Death Note a bit actually

You're welcome, I'm glad to have helped! Haha, and thanks! I'm still a sort of newbie, since there are people that have watched loads of more anime than I have, but I can at least pat myself on the back! Lol, a medal sounds nice! xD

And it's alright, I just made sure to recommend anime that I think you'd like based on the list you gave of anime you had watched! :3

Oh, trust me, My Hero Academia is truly a piece of work, and it's getting more praise day by day! It's an anime that deserves the praise and love it gets, because you just truly get immersed into the story and the characters, and I love how there is emphasis on both heroes and villains, and the way superheroes are viewed and whatnot lend an interesting angle to the genre! Overall, I'm sure you'd develop a good taste for it! :3

The thing about Your Lie In April is that the anime makes you have a really fond appreciation for music, and besides that, you really get to see how Kousei's life has changed because of his talent for the piano. It leads to thoughtful, and also sad and dark times in his life, and it's an anime that'll keep you on the edge of your seat!

OH YES! Death Parade is definitely one you will end up loving, and you can watch it fairly easily enough, since it has only about 13 episodes. But despite it being short, each episode has depth to it, which I dug very much! Here's a small clip so you can get an idea of what to expect! :D

And that's a bit for you to see how the anime feels and its tone, without spoiling anything vital! Also, if you're feeling concerned that Decim is a bland character, (The bartender.) then don't worry, because the story develops him nicely! :)

I was reading the other posts you quoted, and I agree, anime has an extraordinary way of telling stories, even better so than traditional Western cartoons! Not to say that I don't love cartoons, I do, and some of them are in depth and have awesomeness radiating off them and all, but I dig anime even more because of the complex stories and overall epicness they offer! Plus, anime are always drawn in 2D, which I love, because I'm not too big a fan of 3D animated shows, Rwby and Ajin being exceptions, though. :3

AND ALSO, INUYASHA IS A MUST! I CAN TELL YOU MORE ABOUT THAT ONE IF YOU LIKE!!! It's the anime that made me fall in love with anime in the first place! :3
