No dubbing for kingdom hearts III ? MY RESPONSE ! #EudubbingforKH3

Recommended Posts

This has actually been a very difficult point of contention, as the Spanish and French VA's have confirmed that they've been voicing characters but we don't know what for.

Here's a link to the French VA for Rapunzel who says she's working on a new project, so we may still get EU dubbing.

Personally I don't mind. KH2 was the last dubbed game in the series, and that was like 12 years ago. So I've pretty much gotten used to the English voices and even prefer them. But not just that, it actually has gotten pretty common with most games nowadays to have no dubs, except for the English one, and I'm fine with that. The German dub is rather cringy most of the times so I don't need it xD

I don't agree with you on that... all latest big triple AAA games have had a French dubbing (to mention Zelda Breath of the wild and Final Fantasy 15) even the MMO Final Fantasy 14 has one.

For me it's a regression, and for many having a dubbing helps a lot to the overall understanding and immersion of the title.

You may not care because it doesn't concern you, but for us we've had some things taken away from kingdom hearts I and II think for the last big game it will help the sale. I want to see Kingdom Hearts also grow as a community in France just like other english/japanese communities.

Even if the game will sell anyway without French dubbing, this dubbing in question helped a lot with the sale of the title in the past no doubt about it, there would not have been so many fans on the length of the sales in our country for example. we have a quality dubbing and we do not have to suffer of an original version in English or Japanese.

Well yeah. I played both FFXV and BotW and both had such a cringy German dub that I switched to English.

Don't get me wrong, I understand where you're coming from. And of course it would benefit the game and the community if there were more dubs. But it's not anything surprising. Out of all the games in the series merely two have been dubbed with European languages, not even 1.5 or 2.5 are dubbed. So I assume most KH fans are pretty much used to it by now.

People will buy games even if they don't have a dubbing. Cause the games still have subtitles and the entire HUD and menu and so on is translated. All that suffers from the no dub are the cutscenes, pretty much. (My nephews for example, they're 10, don't care if I switch the language of my games to German or not, cause they can read and it doesn't lower the fun they're having.)

I wouldn't mind a dub, of course not. But I assume SE doesn't see it as worthy to spend the money on extra VA's for that. And, this might sound a bit harsh, but after 12 years of no dub it might be best to just get over it.

"To suffer of an original version in english or japanese."

You're going a bit harsh on those dubs, aren't you ? :P

But I mostly agree. As a french myself, I grew up with the french dubs of KH1 and KH2 and I never appreciated the english or japanese dubs as much as the french dub. Maybe it's nostalgia. For me it would be like playing the Sly Cooper serie with english dubs. I don't want to. The french voices are perfect.

At least, they could give the player the option of choosing either the english or the japanese dubs.

But if Final Fantasy XV got several language to choose from (regarding the dubbing) Kingdom Hearts 3 can and SHOULD be the same.

I would like to be able to deactivate the subtitles as I wish and enjoy the game fully. I understand that maybe in German the dubbing is maybe bad ( I've never heard it) but for us the French dubbing is perfect (we have very very good dubbers!)

So no I don't accept the easy way of Square Enix used only one or two single dubbing for the rest of the world. We deserve much more, some of their success also depends on the people who play it before and after.

Free to them in any case... I will continue my goal to support the French version of the game whatever happens.

To tell you also that for example in my entourage certain person does not like the subtitles or English and I have to explain to my nephew the time we had a French version but you know kid you do not deserve it. You were born to the wrong generation lol

It's not all about English always....! Be proud of your language and your dubbers ^^

Well, what about other countries and languages? What about Greek, Russian, Turkish, Swedish, etc? Wouldn't they also deserve a dub? :/ Honestly I don't think anyone deserves anything. And, to view that from another perspective, if they were to add all these dubs the game would get delayed by a lot. And I doubt many fans would he happy about that. So either way one part is unhappy, can't change that.

But good luck though. As I said, for those who can't speak English having a dub would be amazing for sure.

Why not have them in the other languages too? I wouldn't mind. Square Enix was able to do it on worldwide releases before

The dubbing on FF15 was very fast and it was done in the last minutes just before the game was released. There were even patches just during the release of a game. So no, it won't delay the game. Is that what people are afraid of? that the game be postponed? that's not gonna happen.

Cause doing that probably costs them more money than it would earn them xD

Also with FFXV the dubs were planned beforehand. For KH3 (assuming it is not planned yet) they would have to reach out to the VA's, make contracts, plan schedules and start recording. That's not as easy and fast as it sounds.

There's still a chance of course that they actually are doing it (see 2 quid is good's posts). Personally I just wouldn't get my hopes up.

Is there a need for different language dubbing though?

I also live in EU, and Kingdom Hearts games here were always in english x)

I kinda agree, but not quite... I've played most games in english since I was a kid, mostly with english subs too, and never had a problem with it. It's not really a custom to dub movies/shows/games unless they're targeted for small children. So to me personally, the lack of dub is not a problem (on the contrary, I hate most dubs on my native language) and I don't think I can fully understand why it's such a deal breaker for some people.

But still, I do know that while it's not common here to dub movies/shows/games, in some other countries it is. And so many people might be seriously put off by the fact that there's no dub, and decide not to play the game at all. I don't want to start a war by declaring that 'in some countries all people don't speak english that well', because I'm not sure if that's the case, but at least they might be less accustomed to hearing it, which might cause problems. Subtitles might fix that partially, but if you're not accustomed to reading subs while playing, it might hinder with the overall enjoyment or even understanding of the game (tbh, I sometimes have this problem when a game decides to info dump a lot of information in the middle of a fight or something. not good at dual tasking).

I guess it comes down to what Square Enix sees as the most profitable option, though... which might, in this case, be not to dub it. Might be a different story if they had dubbed 1.5 and 2.5, since then they might fear that the fact that there's no dub might affect the sales. But at this point, the people who wouldn't buy the game unless it's dubbed probably didn't buy 1.5 and 2.5 and thus wouldn't be on page with the story and would most likely skip KH3 anyway. It's a shame, but Square Enix is a company, so of course they would try to maximize the profit.

You want to talk about profit at Square Enix ? I don't know if you have the opportunity to look at their latest profit ?

I let you imagine the money that Square Enix makes on Kingdom Hearts Unchained X/ Union X (without lifting a finger for a simple text translation on our European versions leaving us just the text in English) it's a lot worse than dubbing. It's taking fans for idiots and we're told that mobile game more important for the main plot.

If it's not called bad liver I don't understand! You have to explain me (I invite you to watch the tabata video above which explains the immersion and the coession of dubbing in a game like FF15.

It is much more important than that, and if I do all of that is not for me, but for the younger ones. I have the chance to understand English and to speak it.

We're not naive, we understand that Square Enix is a company that wants to make profit. But not on the backs of fans and younger people who are being abused on a mobile game or DLC (so I exagerated that) without giving attention to the rest of the fans in the world.

Sorry if I seemed disrespectful, that wasn't my intention at all.

I was just trying to say that I do sympathize with you, but while I understand that this is a big deal for you, I just can't see it happening. Nevertheless, it's worthwhile to bring this issue up, since you never know. Maybe enough people raise up to defend their right to a dub, and make it happen.

I might not fully understand why this is such a big deal, but as I said, I grew up playing games that weren't translated for my native language, and it didn't stop me from enjoying them. I guess I just wanted to sort of bring that up, as a reminder that it's possible to enjoy games even without a dub. But I do understand it's quite different when you already have something and it's taken away from you, so I get why you're frustrated.

Anyway, good luck with the campaign! ^^

That's pretty nice. Still won't change my opinion though xD Just wait and see, maybe SE is gonna surprise you.

It is not my intention either to be unpleasant please excuse me if I seem harsh by message. I always enjoy playing the game even without French dubbing, that's not the problem I think. It's especially for people who miss the game for this problem and I know a lot of them.

which is why I take this a little more seriously. It's sad not to hear big youtubers (I'm glad KHinsider talking about this) But you can't let that kind of bad thing go because you're a blinded fans and you have everything.  I have this feeling of incomprehension and injustice from the firm of the game I love and the way they care about us.  it's kind of what I feel like as a French fan.

I wait to be surprised ^_^
