HeartofFire 10 Posted October 24, 2010 I. hate. that. Antlion! I cannot seem to make it through this challenge with all three sigils intact. I've tried using Aero magic (very effective) and my strongest keyblades, but nothing. Anyone have any tips on how to beat it? (And the Ruler of the Sky too, I'm trying that one next). And I'm talking about the TIMED ones for both Antlion and Ruler of the Sky.

HeartofFire 10 Posted October 24, 2010 *sigh* I bet there's some really easy trick to it, that we're just not seeing.
Keyblader 325 Posted October 24, 2010 Oh boy are you in luck! I just beat those! I will do my best to explain these as best as I can. Antilion: Ok, you will definitely want to have glide for this, so make sure you advance through each area quickly in order to not waste time. As for what weapons and magic you need to equip, I would recommend equipping the Phantom Gear++ with 4 Magic Panels, as that will give you the largest magic boost (I've tested it, it is true.) and for your magic, get Blizzara, and put two into a level 3 magic panel, and then stick them in the 4 multiplier, then the 3, then the 2. You shouldn't need much more magic than that, if you are around level 78, as that was the level I was at when I took him on. I highly recommend equipping an accessory that has the Magic Bracer Ability so that you can still preform a cast when he is attacking you. Now you should have everything that you need to go through this, so do your best to quickly advance to the Antilion's position, skipping cut scenes as to make sure you don't loose your mental momentum. Fly up to it (Lock on while flying.) and cast your Blizzara (I would recommend shortcutting it to the A button for easy access, but do this before starting the challenge as it will cause you to loose time if you do it while you are in the mission. Cast enough Blizzara to drain about four bars of its health, as anymore will make it go into the air, which is the last thing you want. If any cast misses, you are basically screwed because it takes forever for it to go away, and you can't cast two at once, so just restart the mission. Once it goes underground, position yourself on top of the large ruin in the middle of the battle field, jumping up when necessary as to make sure you won't loose too much health. If you dealt the correct amount of damage to it, after going underground for a period of time, it should pop up with its head showing and shooting pillars of dirt at your direction. Don't move from your general position, as if you do, you can not take advantage of a big opening you can receive, because once it is done, it will charge until it hits either you or a piece of ruin, which is exactly why you want it to be facing that big pillar. If is facing the right way, then it should hit the wall and get stunned, and now is your chance to deal some serious damage (However, if it misses, you just better restart and try again.). Jump up next to it from below ground and keep casting Blizzara, drastically draining its Hp in the process, but don't get your hopes up about freezing it, as it is immune to all status effects. Chances are though, you won't drain it's Hp quick enough to kill it before it 'wakes up', but you should be close, close enough to kill it with two more hits of Blizzara. This is where that Magic Bracer Ability comes in handy. Just do your best to finish it off quickly. Once you manage to do that, Glide as far as you can back to the exit so that you can have a good chance of making it with in the time limit. Glide back to the exit and now this when it gets tricky, you are placed up on a higher ledge, and you have to get down there as quickly as possible. I would recommend just Slide Dash once and Glide over it then fall onto it, hopefully landing on it and getting in it before the time limit ends. It's a tough one, trust me, it tests how well you can actually travel through the mission and do it quickly. If you feel like you still want to hold on to the 2 Challenge Sigils, then just keep going, otherwise just restart and try again. This isn't one of those random luck challenges, you really have to know what you have to do, trust me, I had to redo this mission several times before I got it right, it requires lots of patients and lots of tactics. Ruler of the Sky: Ok, I'll try to remember what I did in this one. I recall having the Zero Gear equipped with 1 Sight panel and 3 Ability panels installed (The three ability panels are so that you can have the Second Chance Ability, a very good ability for this battle I must say.). Then place two Curas in a Level 3 panel and then stick the rest from largest multiplier to smallest to get the most out of your casts. As for what you should have equipped for your accessory, I would suggest the Critical Sun panel, since it greatly increases the chance that you will deal Critical Hits. You definitely want Level 3 Auto Life. As for fighting it, just catch up with it and attack its tail, primarily while its turning. Once you break off a segment, immediately cast a Cura, even if you haven't lost any health, as it will be a prime source of keeping you alive if you can't dodge its flying attacks. The only thing I can recommend is not locking onto it and just fly straight in one direction, taking a look at the map so you can see when its turning around, going up after it flies by you, then going down so it can miss you. Once it dives into the water, go to the surface of the water so that you can easily avoid the coins it shoots at you. Lock onto it once it surfaces, and just fly towards it, it will fly backwards as to avoid you. Once it stops, attack its tail a few times as to not make it loose another tail segment, not that that is a bad thing, it is just the fact that it gets surrounded with energy which deals lots of damage. Keep doing that tactic until you break all of the tail segments, which will cause it to enter a rage, and it will fly in a big circle, ice pillars forming into a circle and it firing spheres in your direction. Just fly in a circle so you avoid the pillars of ice and the spheres. After a while, it will stop and start firing the coins again, however, this time it won't move around other than rotating in a circle to aim at you. Fly below it and rise up and just keep attacking its 'heart.' After it finishes, it will sit there for a short period of time, then it will turn its wings into claw like things and it will try to attack you, just keep flying away from it till its stops, then attack it with a few combos, then fly away since it will enter its invincible mode which will deal lots of damage to you if you are to close to it, and it will start flying in circles again. Just repeat that tactic till you defeat it and you should finish him. Skip the cut scene that follows upon defeating him, then you will find yourself on the rock in front of the dark corridor. Run up to it and exit. I managed to finish with about a minute to spare, so you might do good enough. Hope I helped.
HeartofFire 10 Posted October 24, 2010 Thank you SOSOSOMUCH!!! This will definitely help. I really hate the timed ones, don't you? :)

the15thwiseone 1 Posted October 25, 2010 I could sworn that...like...Thunder was amazing vs the antlion. I just thunder bombed it and it like took...several bars off quickly. I suggest trying the same idea with thunder. Ruler of the sky...i'd say equip Firaga and a strong magic base.

Actually, Thunder based magic deals the least damage over all against it, it deals .23 of the normal damage it deals, while Blizzard based magic deals the highest, which is it's regular damage.
