The Last Stage - Something Incredible

Nomura said at D23 Japan that the development of KH3 is split into three sections. Early stage worlds are 90% complete and the middle stage worlds are 60 - 70% complete. He didn't give a percentage of the final stage but said it was something incredible and that it is bound to surprise everyone. The developers made reference to this last stage by saying three things:

"Something he's always wanted to do and put into Kingdom Hearts, ever since the days of working on Final Fantasy"

"Everything can be done" and "Culmination of the past"

I interpret this as:

 

"Everything can be done" = No Disney property is off limits.

"Culmination of the past" = The most successful Disney films over time.

 

Culmination = The highest or climatic point of something, especially as attained after a long time.

 

Nomura said for any live-action films they would be adjusting the 'Kingdom Shader' effect and we have yet to see one.

I think this incredible, surprising third stage he is referring to will be entirely dedicated to Star Wars and we will be going through episodes 1 - 6 which will take up the final third stage of the game. It's surprising, it's incredible and Star Wars is an extremely popular and contemporary franchise right now. The timing is too perfect to not include it into KH3. Again I would just like to reiterate on what they said:

 

"Everything can be done" = No Disney property is off limits.

"Culmination of the past" = Every Star Wars film up until this point.

 

As for the developers saying it's, "Something he's always wanted to do and put into Kingdom Hearts, ever since the days of working on Final Fantasy" perhaps he has always wanted a Sci-fi setting in the Final Fantasy games and never got the opportunity? But now Star Wars is the perfect franchise for a Sci-fi setting in Kingdom Hearts. However that's just my speculation on this topic, what do you guys think the final third section of the game could consist of? Thanks for reading.

Yeah, I read about that here, and it got me intrigued and thinking as to what could Nomura possibly have in store for us for this final world!? It's pretty much something that's going to keep us wondering until we have the game on our hands later this year!

 

While I love Star Wars, and while your idea is excellent, I just really wouldn't want the entire Star Wars Saga to be crammed into Kingdom Hearts III. I would much prefer having the Star Wars Saga slowly progress throughout the new saga, and as our characters grow, they see the change in a galaxy far, far away! When it was mentioned that anything could be done, I took those words in the sense that he might mean that anything combat-wise can be done, and a culmination of the past is something I would consider to be everything that Nomura has conjured up in terms of combat systems and everything up to this point in the final world. As for something he's always wanted to do since his Final Fantasy days, I just bet that he's always wanted to be able to create a larger than life final stage that will leave people talking for years and years to come.

 

And since it would be the final world that we'd go to, I seriously doubt it'd be Star Wars, as all KH final worlds have always been original worlds, ya know? But yeah, I think Star Wars should be left for the next saga.

 

I also know that final stage is referring to the final act, as in the ending segment and not just exclusively one world, but like I said, if it were Star Wars, going through all six films would mean that Nomura and his team would have to recreate all the locations visited in the films, and that sounds like something that would make the game's development go all the way through to 2020. I dunno, I just don't see Star Wars appearing, and if it does, it would probably be The Phantom Menace, to start things off so that when the next saga begins and there's a time skip a more mature Sora and his friends come upon a more grown up Anakin and friends, ya know?

I never liked the looks of Live Action movies in Kingdom Hearts (Ex: Pirates of the Caribbean and Tron).  The characters look bizarre considering all the other worlds are based on animated cartoon movies, and so are Sora/Donald/Goofy/etc.  I would not want Star Wars or any other Live Action films in Kingdom Hearts going forward.

I think it's rather related to Kingdom Hearts, which is connected to all worlds. So we will visit small parts of many Disney worlds through the final boss phases. It will represent Disney's history.
