Yuya Sakaki 5,212 Posted December 17, 2017 I watched it today and loved it. And I got serious KH vibes from it too! Luke & Kylo Ren/Ben = Eraqus & Terra. Heck, the Masters even said the same things (I failed you, Ben/Terra) to their students. It's almost as if they had BBS in mind when making the movie Yes, I'm aware Nomura is a massive sci-fi geek and based Terra's story on Revenge of the Sith, and those scenes were most likely referencing those between Anakin and Obi-Wan so the similarities make sense. But I still found it so uncanny and I was geeking out so much Also the Yoda scene confused the hell outta me. Like, how was he there? Peace!
Awesome Sauce 634 Posted December 17, 2017 Why do people hate this film? Is it because it wasn't what we expected? I loved nearly everything about TLJ, and was so glad that it wasn't a rehash of ESB.

Vibes of Terra and Eraqus could be felt with this. Now I'm hoping for Luke to bug Kylo in Episode IX like Joker was in Batman Arkham Knight. Also with the Yoda scene, Master Yoda can still project his spirit to Luke because he has a connection with him. This was the first time in years that Luke was opening back to the force, so Yoda could talk with him again, reminding him of the most important lesson: "Best teachers, Masters aren't. Failure, the best teacher is." 1 Yuya Sakaki reacted to this
Axtwyt 500 Posted December 17, 2017 I thought it was really good! The only problem I had with it was that Holdo didn't tell anyone what her plan was. Come on, lady. You think keeping it a total secret was gonna help you, especially with the hot-shot pilot?
Elrandir 783 Posted December 17, 2017 I liked it. Maybe the movie wasn't perfect to everyone, but the part Luke played was the most interesting to me, followed by the interactions between Rey and Kilo.

Hardrada 117 Posted December 17, 2017 Honestly I found this film pretty disappointing. So many plot holes and missed opportunities. Disney has been dropping the ball with Star Wars so far for me. I lost interest in Rebels, and I never really had interest in the Han Solo film and now after seeing TLJ my interest for episode 9 has waned. 1 Weedanort reacted to this
Silent 824 Posted December 18, 2017 (edited) Only yodas spirit was there. The same way obi wans spirit was still able to communicate with luke in the older movies. It’s actually a technique yoda learned and taught obi wan. It explains more in the last episode of the 3d animated clone wars serries. VisitJoan 2,713 Posted December 19, 2017 Yeah, I was not expecting Yoda. Overall, I enjoyed it. And this is coming from someone who isn’t that big of a Star Wars fan (I really like Rebels, but was never that into the main movies).
The Transcendent Key 12,109 Posted December 19, 2017 (edited) I don't know why so many people are criticizing The Last Jedi! Sure, it did things differently from other Star Wars films, but that's the beauty of Star Wars! There's always room for change and new things and the unexpected! The Prequels were vastly different from the Original Trilogy, and I honestly loved the Prequels, even though people said they didn't like them! I think the same case is happening here in The Last Jedi! Apparently it seems that this film will be a divisive entry in the franchise for fans! Honestly though, I loved it, and I couldn't be happier! The two year wait since The Force Awakens was worth it! My three absolute favorite scenes from the movie were: Rey and Kylo Ren vs. Snoke's Praetorian Guard! Like, seriously, I think that this battle scene was one of the most beautifully crafted in the Star Wars saga since the duel with Darth Maul in Phantom Menace and Obi-Wan vs. Anakin in Revenge Of The Sith! The sheer eye popping spectacle of Rey and Kylo just mauling through Snoke's elite guard gave me goosebumps, and just seeing them fight side by side made me go fanboying! And hey, the best thing of all is that the Praetorian Guard, unlike Emperor Palpatine's Royal Imperial Guards, actually fought! But yes, this battle easily ranks among my favorites in the Star Wars saga! It was definitely well filmed! Admiral Holdo's sacrifice to save the Resistance from being wiped out by The First Order using lightspeed! When I saw that she was going for that, I was bracing myself for the impact, and when she did that, the beautiful imagery that followed definitely impressed me and left me with awe! The shimmering light and the way that all the First Order fleet was decimated really did impress me! Very beautiful cinematography right there! Luke explaining to Rey about how the Jedi have to end. I just loved that after all this time, he saw that balance was still needed, and that peace was far off! I just loved how Luke became a man that got paranoid, and after everything that happened with Kylo, I was like: "Holy dang, what is this!?" Pretty much all of Luke's scenes in this film blew me away! Mark Hamill has aged well with the character! The biggest surprises for me were: YODA! FREAKING YODA!!!! I had not expected in a million years to see Yoda's force ghost appearing in this film at all! The fact that he appeared made me literally shout out his name when I saw him, and since I was in the cinema, my reaction was funny as hell! Yoda's scene with Luke was definitely tops! Failure, the best teacher is! Snoke being axed before his time! I mean, seriously, here we all were thinking that he was Darth Plagueis or maybe some mysterious and mighty Sith Lord from long ago, but well, it looks like we'll never find out, because he got rekt by Kylo! I mean seriously, Snoke monologued to the point that his sense apparently blinded to the lightsaber that was literally at his side, moving towards him for the kill! I was like: "Well, there goes 2 years of fan theories down the toilet!" Definitely did not see that coming! Luke in one brief and sudden moment wanting to kill Kylo Ren because he feared his power! Like, I did not expect this at all from Luke's character, and the fact that he showed that sign of weakness and fear really spoke of how things can change with time, and how things can be seen from another perspective! The fact that Rey's parents were apparently normal, run of the mill people! It's funny, because the entire film was teasing us constantly about Rey's parentage, but when the big reveal finally came, she's apparently nobody! So at least we know she ain't a Skywalker! Something that didn't surprise me was Phasma's duration in this film! She honestly had more screen time in The Force Awakekns! When I saw what happened to her in this film, I literally said: "Oh, okay, so Phasma got Boba Fett'd!" She's the new Boba Fett of the modern age Star Wars generation of films! But yes, overall, this film is an amazing entry in the Star Wars franchise, and I can't wait to see how this saga concludes with Episode IX! Just two years to go! I know that the story probably went places that no one figured they were going to go, but I feel it worked out for the better in this movie. I also loved the fight scene in Snoke's throne room, and it's one of the best put together fight scenes in Star Wars yet. I was impressed by the fight in the forest at the end of Force Awakens, as it blended the structured fights from the original trilogy with the faster and flashier style of the prequels. I'd also like to point out how great the final duel between Kylo and Luke turned out, and all the foreshadowing that went into the reveal. Seriously! I only noticed a few details the first time around (the lightsaber Luke uses for most part), but then had so many more get pointed out to me later (Luke appears as he did in the flashbacks, he doesn't leave tracks in the salt, he never connects lightsabers with Kylo). A lot of care went into this movie, and I'll never understand the people who don't like the newer Star Wars movies.
Weedanort 8,786 Posted December 19, 2017 I liked Episode 7, and despite looking very similar to Episode 4, I gave it a discount, because the new content that was added was good. And I went with the same mindset when I saw Episode 8. And it's pretty much what I expected, a re-telling of Episode 5, with new content on the table. But what I cannot forgive is the fact that plot elements that were implemented in Episode 7 were completely trashed over on Episode 8. For example, Rey's parents. You could say it's the same situation as Anakin's parents, but the fact is that Anakin's parent's weren't supposed to be important. But we were exposed with "Who are Rey's parents?". Discussion and predictions were high on this topic, and those people were disappointed with the reveal of Rey's parents. I know I was. And Snoke's death. Ohhh boy. Snoke was an imposing, mysterious villain in Episode 7. But on this one, they made him smaller, and finished him off on a very dumb way. I understand that people want Kylo Ren as the main villain (Which I understand), but wasn't there a more convincing way of finishing off Snoke? He had such a huge control of the Force, and to be sliced by Rey's lightsaber due to Kylo Ren's Force control while he was doing his monologue? Christ. And now for the biggest one. Princess Leia not dying. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they told that they were going to use footage of Carrie Fisher for this movie, and use CGI to cover the rest, right? Naturally, you'd expect that they would kill the character to have less work on Episode 9 and beyond. When Leia gets shot into space (RIP Ackbar, btw), I made peace with it. That I could accept. And Leia pulls the theoretical "Middle finger", and floats towards the ship to survive. Uhhh, what? Sure, I'm happy that Princess Leia survived, but it was such a confusing and unconvincing way to survive. Let's see how they're gonna use the character from here on, or if they're going to get rid of her off screen. Episode 8 has strong points though. The interaction between Finn and the other female protagonist on the casino planet was a joy to behold, and was a change of scenery from the constant space battles. The interactions between Rey and Luke are really good as well. The sudden appearance of Yoda might be a turnoff for some people, but hey, they didn't say anything about when Obi Wan showed up after Episode 4, now did they? Take my opinion with a grain of salt if you will. I will definitely go see Episode 9 when it comes out (Due to family tradition), and here's hoping that Episode 9 deals with story elements better than this one. Indeed, I feel as though the plot twists presented in this film were very effective in either generating awe or frustration, depending on who was watching the film, ya know? Oh yeah, definitely, the battle in Snoke's throneroom was definitely an impressive technical feat, and I just loved how graciously it was pulled off! And yeah, I get what you mean about Kylo and Rey's duel in The Force Awakens! It was a pretty effective battle as well! Ooooh, yes, the part with Luke confronting Kylo definitely psyched me up as well, especially when all the concentrated AT-AT fire didn't leave a single scratch on him! Loved how he just brushed it off! But like you, I had failed to notice that it was only a younger apparition of Luke, which I only noticed after remembering the flashback scenes during the film and the scene showing us that Luke was projecting himself from Ach-To! Seriously crazy stuff, man! I agree, the film was definitely well made, and it only makes me excited to see what'll happen in Episode IX! And well, people will be people, and though there are people who love the new films, there are also people that'll always dislike them. It's just the way things are, ya know? Take my opinion with a grain of salt if you will. I will definitely go see Episode 9 when it comes out (Due to family tradition), and here's hoping that Episode 9 deals with story elements better than this one. Actually, there was very little to compare The Last Jedi with Empire Strikes Back, at least in my opinion. The film was different enough that it didn't feel like a copy paste of Empire, as many people were pointing out that Force Awakens was a copy paste of A New Hope. And honestly, I was also put off with Rey's parents. I mean, I honestly thought Luke was the father, but as it turns out, she literally came from nowhere, and she just so happens to be a Force-sensitive individual! It's not a bad thing, because Skywalkers aren't the only Force users, but for all the theories made, I actually thought she might be a Skywalker or a Kenobi or something! But yep, turns out Rey's parents were just regular folks! I honestly laughed when Snoke died. It was a wtf moment for sure, and it was kind of like a fourth wall joke about how someone can easily be able to kill a villain who monologues a bit too much! And that's also something that really went south for fans, as theories had suggested that he was perhaps Darth Plagueis or Mace Windu or heck, even Jar Jar! But it turns out we might never know, as Snoke was only a means to an end to further Kylo's arc as the big bad of this trilogy! Snoke was simply the sacrifical lamb, so to speak! Oh yeah, Leia dying at the beginning really caught me off guard! I mean, I was expecting her to die in this film since Carrie Fisher had died, and as such I thought that the character would somehow meet her demise, but I thought it would be near the end of the movie and not right at the beginning! I was shocked, but when I saw that stunt she pulled, dang I was surprised! She unlocked her full force potential at last, after a lifetime of films! Yeah, Episode VIII overall was an enjoyable film, and I definitely enjoyed it from beginning to end, particularly the whole development between Kylo and Rey and how they could communicate via the Force! And Yoda appearing was definitely a surprise I loved, and seeing Luke in a different light was also refreshing! Just goes to show that not all heroes age well, and that even the mightiest of heroes change with time! And yes, I thought that Finn and Rose's scenes in this film were cute! I wanna see Episode IX so badly! X_X Edited December 20, 2017 by The Transcendent Key
Hardrada 117 Posted December 20, 2017 I was fine with many of the twists in this, but others felt like they were just twists for the sake of being twists and hindered the movie. I'm fine with Rey's parents being nobodies, in fact that's what I wanted. I would have been disappointed if she was somehow related to any of the main characters (the galaxy isn't that small). I'm also fine with the death of Snoke which seemed like a pretty bold move. I didn't like the humor in this movie which I understand is subjective, but for me it fell flat and felt forced/cringey and very out of character coming from Luke in particular. The whole sub-plot involving Finn and Rose was not only uninteresting, but in the end wound up being completely pointless for the plot. It felt like those sequences were only there to give Finn and Rose something to do in this movie. The plot involving Poe and Holdo did not make any sense at all. Why didn't Holdo just tell Poe the plan? There was literally no reason not to. Again, this felt like a contrived conflict to give Poe and the new character something to do past the initial scenes. There are a multitude of ways they could have minor tweaks to have the mutiny sub-plot make sense but it didn't seem like they tried. Most of all I don't like what they did with Luke. Luke fought and converted the second most powerful sith in the galaxy back to the light, his own father. He senses the dark side in his own nephew (who isn't even evil yet!) and briefly thinks about killing him? What? Even Mark Hamill said this point didn't make any sense with Luke and I completely agree. I love Star Wars and I didn't hate this movie. It was fun to watch but disappointing in many respects. AwesomeKHfan 1,250 Posted December 20, 2017 This is one of the reasons I hate the movie and well this I hated: -75% of the jokes, hell the movie is in tone and ideas way more darker than EP7 but the jokes ruin it and the jokes fill like to full in the 2 hour and 40 minute slot of this movie. -The connection with the other movies -90% Of the fights are either shit or atleast descent I only liked one and but how in goddamn earth have I seen fight scenes in video game movies like the first Mortal Kombat movie to be better than this. -I found the CGI average at best and thought they run out of budget at moments. -A few times the light effects were so firetrucking big I was blinded in the cinema -You could sleep through 30 minutes and not miss a thing. -The story is intense bad -Luke Skywalker -Luke making milk with... Whatever that thing was. -The Soundtrack annoyed me a few times through out the movie. -Puppet Yoda looks worse than the 80's Yoda. -The set design looked bad -Leia became Jesus -I hated the ending with Luke break dancing to dodge attacks and him meditating that looks like he was farting his ass of. -The movie could've been 1 hour and 45 minutes perhaps instead of being so long. etc you get the point I hated almost everything and all I hoped was for a fun movie expierence... Well firetruck that this shit makes Ubisoft writing department look good. If I had to point out the things I liked it are: -Snoke trolling Rey -Rey getting her Mary Sue butt kicked -Chewbacca ... Maybe that was it.

Zerrick 43 Posted December 23, 2017 There are two types of Star Wars fans; there are fans of the universe and then there are simply fans of the movies, it’s possible to be both, but to be both you have to genuinely enjoy the universe. This movie completely takes a dump on the universe and it’s revealing what type of fans people are. Luke’s character was handled in such a disrespectful way that anyone who knows anything about Luke would scratch their head and just be like “who is this guy”. This trilogy clearly has no direction since obviously one director can come in and completely destroy the foundation made by another in the same trilogy. Make fun of Lucas all you want for the PT, but atleast he had a vision and followed it through...except darth jar jar, but I’ll blame the fandom for that one. Not to mention that Rian Johnson just shat on what the force is, apparently it is now this tension/balance between every extreme concept. Instead of being a force that connects everything now it needs to balance in every aspect of existence. Lol this is why I shake my head when people say they want Star Wars I’m KH, the lore and mythos of Star Wars is just too similar to KH yet fundamentally different for it to work without dumping on both of them. Now I would get into why the movie itself is an okay movie, but a terrible Star Wars movie, but i feel the thread has touched upon my greatest concerns of the movie.
