rho 9 Posted October 14, 2010 Well, starting this thread to rant about my experience and see other tales I walk into US History. I see the campus supervisor or whoever he is standing where the teacher usually is by the door, don't think much of it, then I'm told the teacher apparently suddenly had to leave and they were trying to get a sub. We wait about half an hour and pretty much do nothing, he tries to put on a movie about Ellis Island and nobody in the room gives a crap about it, then finally someone comes in. All seems well. Boy, was I wrong. The sub had a little bit of an accent. Nothing wrong with that per se. Couldn't tell what accent it was, but her English was very poor. For most of the rest of the period she continues trying to get us to watch the movie which proves to be a failure since everyone is just messing around and talking. She eventually gives up later on in the class and writes some assignment from the book up on the board without even informing us of anything. Meanwhile, she is looking RIGHT AT kids freakin' hitting each other and screaming out vulgarities. Right in front of her. She doesn't bat an eye. Yet, since a girl that had to go to the bathroom took "more than two minutes", which the sub claimed was the maximum time (it takes more than that to even GET there.) and that the girl took 20 minutes there. She didn't. Everyone was explaining to the sub that it wasn't 20 minutes. Even I was, and I HATE the girl involved. So taking more than two minutes in the bathroom is a problem, but roughhousing and yelling out vulgarities is a-ok. Part of me honestly thinks they dragged some random woman off the street, said "hey, we're from the school, we need someone to sub a history class, we'll give you some money" and put her in. She kept ranting at one point about how she knows how 5th graders act and she kept rambling about something to do with "ten years from now". Dunno what she even meant. I doubt anybody cared to listen to her. She also kept ranting at people to "sit nicely". As opposed to sitting meanly? Not directly related to a sub story, but in 8th Grade my math teacher would always lecture us for about 10 minutes the day before we'd be having a sub about how he demanded we call them a "guest teacher" since he thought "substitute teacher" was disrespectful. Then again this is the same teacher who would tell me I didn't do my homework if I didn't do it on a VERY SPECIFIC piece of paper
Mistress Sinsie 3 Posted October 14, 2010 Well I have one that happened my Senior year. Now before I tell this tale I'd like to state that I came from a small school, there were only about 60 kids in my whole year so we all knew each other. Now there were two English classes, first period 12th Grade English and second period Senior English. The differences were this, 12th grade was a high school credit while the other was a college credit. (yeah we dont even use the correct names for classes here we're that small) which was taught by the same teacher. Now most of the kids in 12th Grade English were there because well we loved the teacher and had nowhere else to go. We were so unserious about this class that there was an unspoken rule between the teacher and her students, just show up 10 mins before the end period bell rang. We didn't really have school work, it was just work that Senior English was doing, which we just copied off of them or didn't even bother to do it. I actually did all my homework which I received the only A. When ever there would be a sub, the teacher would give us a heads up and we would all arrive for first period all bright eyed and bushy tailed the next day. This one time we were so out of control to the sub. A few kids came in after she had raided the senior hall finding a few of her students. Small town so she knew who was who on the roster sadly. The sub told us to get out our books and we laughed and said in our lockers. I and another kid slipped off into the art room. (I was a regular there skipping a few classes just to go draw.. but uh this dude was her husband.. whoops) The other sat on the benches in front of their lockers and she like showed up after a like 10 mins yelled at them. (could see it happen threw the art room windows.) they sorta just sat there and argued. The other kids that never show up until last moment got a weeks detention... but it weird she never gave it to the kids that were actual probs... like myself. VENROXAS 152 Posted October 14, 2010 In my 6th grade year for spanish class we had a sub we didn't think to much about meh what ever since we didn't do anything our teacher ever told us to do, well when we got there that day out sub said we don't have anything to do but watch this movie about the maya meh so we sat there making some spit wads and throwing them at each other and the teacher mad 1 person pick it all up, but he refused to and the teacher was cussing him out we were like O_O uhhh ohhhh ok? next day we found out that teacher is banned from our district. Godot 513 Posted October 14, 2010 When we had a sub in language arts, we were supposed to be typing up our essays on the school lap-tops, but no one was really doing anything. Almost everyone was just playing solitaire or pinball, and everyone else was fooling and making beeping noises with the lap-top. But the sub still gave us a good report, and our regular teacher gave us candy the next day for "being so great for the sub". If substitute bus drivers count, today our new driver (our regular one just had a baby) wouldn't pull out of the school parking lot until she found out who was spraying perfume everywhere. And then she went to the back of the bus and screamed at all of the fifth and sixth graders to get to the front of the bus (the back is only for seventh and eighth graders), and then screamed at the rest of us for really no reason at all. ._. FireStorm 162 23 Posted October 23, 2010 About a week ago we had a sub who kept talking to one student and giving him singing tips, and he wasn't even good!!!! I would have been ok with this if we were doing a music or music related lesson, but he decides to start badly singing during a Legal Studies lesson, WTF, it was so annoying that i had to ask to go to the bathroom for about 15 minutes..... of course he was teaching the same student to sing when i got back, so he didn't even notice how long i was gone for, it was a fail :x Well, annoyed rant mode over, now to be in my normal (lies, all lies) mode
Oblivion 15 Posted October 23, 2010 Once a sub was being mean to the class and told us all to shut up. Then she started writing on the board and people resumed talking. She said "Why am I hearing voices?" and I yelled "Cuz you're mental!" ahhhh, 4th grade....
heartless101 83 Posted October 24, 2010 2 weeks ago, my Scinece teacher was out for a full week because his wife had a baby and a sub subbed for the teacher and she was horrible. She wouldn't help any of us with the lab (which by the way, my partners and I got a C- on) and a bunch of other stuff

Judai 0 Posted December 26, 2010 Meh, my substitute teacher tales are boring... Elementary: Our substitute teacher would let us take the period free if we behaved nicely. Middle: We never, EVER had a substitute, EVER! When the teacher wasn't in, we'd go to the yard and play. High: We sometimes get substitute. When not, even when the teacher isn't in, we're supposed to stay in the classroom.
Koko 3,944 Posted December 26, 2010 I had my mom for a substitute. For like 50% of my middle school years. nuff said. itwasn'tthatbad

heartless101 83 Posted December 26, 2010 The same sub I got for science subbed in for Spanish one day. She had us do these vocab flashcards for a whole chapter of Spanish that we were reviewing (on the flashcards, we would have to write the definition, the word, and a picture) and if we did not finish it, she would write our name on a list and give the list to my principal and the Spanish teacher and they would give the person a detention. That reminds me of the time our English teacher was substitute for Biology. She is waaay different when being a substitute teacher, and I mean that! When she's giving us English, she argues with 25% of the group! If only those fights were entertaining, but they aren't! -_-''
heartless101 83 Posted December 27, 2010 That sucks. How did your English teacher sub for your Biology teacher though, if she had to teach English as well?
Space Cowboy 1,392 Posted December 27, 2010 Middle School: Every time we had a substitute teacher, we'd pretend like we were someone else (since the subs didn't have a role sheet). I remember one time when everyone in my class said their name was either Bonnie or Clyde. And there was one time where we acted like we were from different parts of the world. Like in the 8th grade, I pretended like I was a German Nazi named Heinrich Hitler. High School: We pretty much do the same thing (act like we are foreign), instead we use our real names.
