Video Insomniac's Spider-Man Is Looking Mind-Blowing!

Recommended Posts

Hey there everyone, how's it going!? So then, as you all know, last year Marvel announced a new video game being developed by Insomniac games, which is Spider-Man, and the announcement was amazing, and it sparked excitement within the Marvel fanbase! Now, fast forward to this year, at this past E3, and we got a glimpse into the gameplay of said game, and here I, The Friendly Neighborhood Webhead, discuss my thoughts on the gameplay and the game! Enjoy! :D

So, are you all excited for the potentially awesome success that this game will have? It certainly looks to me that this is the beginning of a new franchise for the webhead in the video game realm! :D

We haven't had an official home console Spidey game since The Amazing Spider Man 2 movie game four years ago, and if you remember how that game turned out, I think it's safe to say that Insomniac don't have too high of a bar to surpass. xD

No but really: after years of Beenox's stranglehold of the Spider-Man license since the beginning of the 2010s, we can finally start fresh with a new dev team and a fresh start. Beenox's Spidey games haven't been all bad, I thought Web of Shadows was decent and Shattered Dimensions obviously had a lot of fanservice packed into it, but overall, they just haven't been able to surpass the expectations set by past devs like Vicarious Visions and Treyarch.

Speaking of that: while this is definetly a brand new IP... I cannot be the only one who can see that its clearly building off the foundation of the Spider Man 2 movie game which has set the bar for making good Spider-Man console games since its release (and has had countless re-iterations that tried and failed to surpass its since), as well as elements from the Batman: Arkham series due to its own acclaim and own raising of said bar. But hey, those games are awesome so why not try to pull from them? If it's not broke, don't fix it.

Besides all that, I'm not going to front and say that I'm worried or anything, because I don't like forcing arbitrary cynicism for the sake of it just because it may feel like it's appropriate. Insomniac is a damn good team and what they've shown so far is stellar in both its general aesthetics as well as its showcase and/or potential for innovation. I'm hyped and I'm proud of it.

I would have been more hyped for this game at E3 if Sony hadn't been like "Here is a true PlayStation exclusive" and before then not show amything of The Last of Us sequel. Like that killed my hype for this game. But, I did think it at least looks nice and fun and I will definitely see into it before it comes out, my hype for it just wasn't there because of Sony's less than stellar E3 this year, though they still had a good E3 compared to Microsoft. I just wish my hype would have been there instead of being disappointed that it wasn't something else. :|

the one thing that game DID have, which made it worth 50 bucks, in my opinion, was one joke he said to the king pin. "You're just mad because you're the same hight laying down"

I know, man! The Spider-Man games I grew up with were the three movie games from Sam Raimi's trilogy and 2005's Ultimate Spider-Man, which is another favorite of mine! I've seen gameplay of the others, but I've never played any of the others that came out since! I always wanted to play Shattered Dimensions!

But yes, Insomniac looks like it's treating the Spider-Man licence with great care, and if the game will end up like we've been shown at the moment, then it's gonna be stellar! It looks like it could definitely make for a truly amazing (Yes, I intended the pun, lol. xD) Spider-Man game! It'll probably be on par with the Batman Arkham games in terms of quality! And since Spidey has an expansive rogues gallery, there's lots of rich material to draw from! There's limitless potential! I can't wait to see what this game ends up doing to Spidey in video games as a whole! Imagine if the success of this game ends up building a Marvel Interactive Universe, something to be the video game counterpart of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? That'd be insane!

But of course, I'm talking way ahead of time! But my main point being, the game looks like it'll be awesome!

Well hey, maybe when the game gets closer to release, some hype might spark up! You never know! :D

He really said that in the game? Hah, that sounds very Spidey-ish! xD

Basically Spider-Man Arkham more or less.

Haha, my thoughts exactly! And if that's the route Insomniac is going, then this Spidey game will enjoy much success!
