Unknown/Xemnas sampled Sora's memories to create Xion?

I've seen many people say that the secret boss, Unknown (Xemnas), in KH1 was there in order to sample Sora's memories in order to create Xion. I've even stated this myself a few times.

 

I just wanted to know what the source is for this? Has it been stated in a Nomura interview or the Ultimania or something?

 

I mean, it makes sense. In CoM, Marluxia fazes through Sora and said that was him sampling his memories, and Unknown (Xemnas) does the same sort of fazing through Sora thing in KH1. But, I want to know if that's all the evidence we have for it. Is there solid evidence like a Nomura interview or something that confirms this or is it just conjecture?

Makes sense to me also seeing as how Xion was made to keep those special memories. As for sources, I am not sure where or even if there is one.

Hmm, this is the first time I've heard of this! And upon reading it, I find that it makes sense, and it also gives purpose to Xemnas's appearance in KH Final Mix! I don't know if Nomura ever said this or not, but it sounds like something he'd do!

I'm pretty sure that in 358/2 Days Namine said that some of Sora's memories were leak out while he was sleeping and those memories found its way into Vexen's puppet aka Xion. And those leak memories were Sora's strongest memories of Kairi.

As far as I know, there are NO solid leads or evidence of this being the case, interview or otherwise. To be honest, this is the first time I've heard of this theory. I suppose it might make sense, but I wouldn't put that much stock in it myself, since most of that memory stuff is really more effective inside Castle Oblivion itself. I'm more willing to think that it was done as a sort of homage to that moment, though I understand that in the context of the narrative itself that it doesn't make much sense for both Xemnas and Marluxia to do the same thing with no explanation for the former. I always just assumed that he was only there to gauge Sora's power and potential as a tool for the Organization, especially now that they had their hands on Roxas. But maybe they did that for Xion too, it's tricky to say, I don't even know how you would do that. I think it's just safe to say that by doing anything with Sora, Xemnas and the Organization was looking to further their mileage with the Keyblade, be that through Sora, Roxas, or Xion.

Except that Xemnas confirmed that Vexen created Xion. Sure, Xemnas may have aided in the creation of Xion, but Vexen is created as the artificial creator of Xion.

There's no direct mention or any statement but it's heavily implied when you piece things up together. I'm surprised as to how this is new to many of you here though since I thought this is the general idea.

 

The process of creating Xion has definitely something to do with Sora. Sora's leaked memories of Kairi would not find themselves in a puppet (Xion) without a reason. Roxas possesses some of Sora's memories but the memories Xion absorbed were not directly from Roxas. I'll deal with what Xion absorbed from Roxas later on.

 

When Vexen created Riku Replica, he had to gather data by fighting the real Riku (note that Vexen was already working on Riku Replica as mentioned in his Secret Report titled "Research Entry 326" and he needed to fight Riku to complete the Replica). As Xion is also a Replica, the procedure should also be the same. Xion was created before some of the members of the Organization were sent to Castle Oblivion. The only Organization member who has interacted with Sora before he was introduced to C.O. by Marluxia was none other than Xemnas himself. This is the proof that Xemnas collected the data for the No. i project.

 

Whether Xemnas collected the data by phasing through Sora or by fighting him (or maybe even both), it remains unclear. We have seen evidence that collecting data or memories from a certain someone does not necessarily have to be phasing through that person (a lot of instances in KHRe:CoM) and can also be done through battles. The quotes that showed up on the black screen when Xemnas was phasing through Sora were mostly about Kairi but not all of them. Hence, there's no confirmation on this.

 

So for the No. i project, Xemnas gathered the data from Sora for Vexen to finish the Replica. Xion was born in C.O. (implying that Vexen was based in C.O. even before they began the C.O. plan) and Saïx brought her to the Organization as Number XIV. Among the members, only Xemnas, Vexen, and Saïx (possibly Xigbar as well but it's a little unlikely) knew of Xion's true identity until it was revealed later to everyone. Axel killed Vexen partly because he couldn't risk the Replica Program from falling into the traitors' hands as stated in one of his Secret Reports, but he hadn't known that Xion was also part of the Program yet until he found out the truth about both Xion and Naminé after going through the late Vexen's research.

 

Last but not least, I want to clear the misconception on who is Xion a Replica of. She's not a Replica of Sora but a Replica of Roxas. This has been stated by those who knew the truth about Xion including Axel, specifically in the Secret Reports. So that means the No. i project was already underway after Roxas was born and Sora's data was required to finish the project.

 

The original purpose of Xion was to duplicate Roxas's powers and also absorbing them so that the Organization has another Keyblade wielder but ultimately, they only needed one of them so either Xion absorbs Roxas or Roxas absorbs Xion. However, Xion was beginning to form an identity of her own, thus preventing the hero of the Keyblade (Sora) from awakening by absorbing Sora's memories (and in turn, his powers) through Roxas, the Nobody of the hero. This was an unexpected side effect but was also beneficial to the Organization by keeping Sora asleep while having his power belong to them. This was also noticed by Naminé.

 

All of this information can be found in the movie Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and the Secret Reports which are actually very important.
