I'd actually probably have to give it to B2/W2, because it's such a monumental improvement over the first ones. Black and White were overly morose, preachy, and introduced a lot of blah mechanics and a boring region (not to mention some of the worst Pokemon designs). But Black 2/White 2 rectified almost all of that by making the plot lighter and more engaging, ditched some of the fluffy game design, and made the region actually interesting to explore.

But given the radical departure, I sometimes have trouble considering B2/W2 as a third version, so runner up is Platinum for feeling the most "complete" compared to its originals.

Crystal because it gave me a shiny Chikorita as a starter haha. xD On a serious note, not much of a Pokemon enthusiast anymore but I was super excited for Crystal because it was the first game that let you choose the gender of your character and I also thought it was cool that the Pokemon sprites had a bit of animation added to them upon encounter.

White 2 is my second favorite Pokemon game behind Silver, so that's an obvious choice for me. I never played Crystal, but if I do, that could potentially take the spot.

Seriously? I prefer Pokemon Black 2 and White 2 in terms of quantity of content and the improved Pokedex, but Pokemon Black/White had the better story line. All of the gym leaders were woven into the plot outside of their roles as Gym Leaders, and the villains actually had a respectable agenda. It's even more heart-wrenching to know that N was used as a puppet in the grand scheme of things. Outside of Colress and Ghetsis, Black 2/White 2 Team Plasma was far more awkward, and the avatar characters was such a downgrade from the Black and White characters.

Personally, my favourite is Pokemon Platinum. It improved from Ruby and Sapphire on so many levels that Ruby and Sapphire are unplayable now. The Pokemon had animations whenever you looked at them, the Gym Leaders were more challenging, you can have rematches, and best of all: the Battle Frontier. Outside of your rival swapping Numel for Slugma, everything on Pokemon Emerald was completely spot on. I played Pokemon Emerald for four and a half years before I moved on. The replay value was that strong in the game.

Though truth be told, Pokemon Platinum and Black 2 hold an equally soft spot in my heart.

Pokemon Z since it made improvements to Kalos it needed and expanded Zyagrde's role in the story.

In all seriousness, Black and White 2 it if counts as a third version. If not, then Platinum.

Also, if we're going to be technical, Blue's the third version of Gen I while Yellow was a bonus game. The game was localized after Blue's release, so the Red/Blue that were released internationally are just split up versions of Japan's Blue.

The gym leaders having an improved role was nice, yeah. But I just wasn't invested in N as a rival. He'd pop in, spout of some grandiose speech about saving the environment and the pokemanz, and then leave. I didn't feel any sympathy for him when he turned out to be a puppet because it seemed pretty obvious from the start. I liked Team Plasma just being pirates =P.

I really love Yellow but it has to be Platinum for me. Gen 4 was the first generation where I was actually aware of strategy and team diversity and didn't just over level my starter all game. I spent many many hours grinding my pokemon up and battling the Battle Frontier (which is the best battle frontier tbh). I got it on release and it was probably the first game I put 100 hours into at least in pokemon twas truly amazing

White 2 because of all the memories that go a long with it. I had found a place I belong at school and all the craziness that happened here at that time.

Considering Yellow was the only one I ever owned, it's that by default. I do love the anime characters suddenly inserted into the game (good god it's fun to just murder Jessie and James) and the fact that you get each starter is pretty rad.

I've always wanted to play Platinum, but it's so hard to find these days, let alone at a good price, that I might as well just give up. Also I could never get really into B2/W2. I really liked the new mechanics and updated features in Gen 5, and honestly it's probably my favorite Gen in turns of gameplay, but B2/W2 just felt so weak compared to B/W. Couldn't get into the story, didn't like how the new path of travelling through the towns went, didn't like the character designs compared to B/W- I dunno, it just never clicked for me.

Also, unrelated, but there seems to be some confusion about Gen 2 coming to the Virtual Console: Crystal is not being ported, only Gold and Silver are (at least, for now, I guess they could in the future, but I dunno...)

Pokemon Platinum is dirt cheap right now on eBay (at least in the UK). I can buy it on behalf of you and send it to you if you're unable to find it at an affordable price..

Oh, I could never ask someone to do that for me. Thanks for the offer, though.

Good point though, it's not a terrible price on eBay, I just don't trust eBay sellers that much. I've been burned buying games there before. Amazon is a lot more trustworthy, but there it's like $50 which is crazy for a DS game.

Let's see...

Black 2. I liked that it is a sequel to the previous game and feels like a completely different game instead of the usual combining the two games into one and introducing some changes.

N should have had a more active role though like in the previous game, dude is my fav pokemon character.

Emerald is 2nd because it changed a lot from Ruby and Sapphire, and like Alpha said here, I can't really play Ruby/Sapphire after playing it.

Platinum is my 3rd, but that's because Gen 4 is awesome in general.

eBay has a money back guarantee, so if you don't like what you get, you can request a return with a full refund. I highly recommend you get a copy of Pokemon Platinum on eBay: the game's really good!

I'd say Emerald. My first Pokémon game was Ruby, and I loved it so much, how could I not enjoy Emerald. I'll be honest though, it's mostly because of the nostalgia. But the 3rd generation of Pokemon have some of my favorite Pokémon, and my favorite Pokémon and starter : Blaziken.

My second favorite game would be Pokémon Platinum. I just love the fourth generation. It is awesome.

These where some of the last Pokémon games I truly enjoyed (With HeartGold and SoulSilver which were so cool) I played Pokémon Black, Pokémon X and Pokémon Ruby Omega and... eh. I don't know. Don't like that much.

Oh and Pokémon Colosseum and Pokemon X-D were cool too. I wish there was a Pokémon game like that on Switch.

Yeah, but you have to pay for shipping and handling too, and having to wait approx. a week to get the item, find out it's busted or not good quality, then paying to wait another week to get a refund, is just too much hassle.

Honestly, there are a couple local game shops near me that I trust that have Platinum, and best case scenario, I'd love to support them and get the game I want. Everything I hear about Platinum sounds awesome, and I liked Gen 4 in general, so I'm sure I'd love it, it's just the money issue. Overall I'd like to strike that balance between a good deal and a good seller, and I just don't trust eBay enough.
