America....

Recommended Posts

Though America has many flaws, it truly is the best country in the world. I'm speaking fact wise now. You'll find nowhere better. (well, I can't say that for sure, but the majority of people would be worse off)

i'm not sure, canada seems great and i'm happy here in the UK. crime is very low, and YOU AREN'T ALOUD TO HAVE GUNS

that's one of my biggest problems with america. hundreds of americans get killed a year from gun accidents. and thats just accidents, don't get me into overuse and misuse of guns...

guns can kill someone instantly, so people shouldn't be aloud them. even if it's self-defence, no-one deserves to die because they're robbing your house (for that they need to be put in jail, not shot in the stomach)

Guns don't kill people. People kill people with guns.

Correct me if I'm wrong but stabbings are major problems in the UK like how shootings are a problem in the US. Are you going to ban knives too?

stabbing aren't a major problem, and knife are not aloud, they get them illegully

also like you with the UK, i've visited america plenty of times, but i don't know more about it that you do. knowing more about a country than someone who lives there is odd

and i'm sorry but you are on a thread that asks people what they think of america, and i'm just giving my honest opinion

I find no guns a BAD thing. That, for me, isn't a plus--that's me losing my rights. The second amendment means they can't take away my guns. That's another thing I like about the U.S.

It's not guns doing the damage--it's the intentions of the people using them. Would you prefer people kill others and themselves with knifes and rope instead? No matter what anyone does, crime will still happen, sadly.

I like guns and I like shooting.

It's a sport for me--something I've done since I was a little kid. I shoot cardboard and steel, not people.

Shooting can be lots of fun if you give it a shot. I participate in IDPA (International Defense Pistol Association), USPSA (United States Pistol Shooting Association), two-gun (rifle and handgun), and three-gun (rifle, handgun, and shotgun with slugs only), competitions. No one has ever been injured in twenty years.

Shooting is actually one of the safest sports in the entire world, actually. Because of the potential danger, extra safety precautions are taken.

Uh oh, another America vs Britain debate :P

America, in my opinion, is a great country with a wonderful sense of friendliness. It is one of the best countries in the world.

I live in the UK, nice place to live and admittedly, America does all sorts of things better than us, since its bigger and has larger wealth. The only ways I think the UK is slightly better is our National health system (In Wales we all get free prescriptions cause a welshman invented the NHS) and the fact we don't tolerate people like Glenn Beck on television. Seriously, he would be sacked on day 1.

But apart from that, I think America IS one of the greatest countries ever.

Every country goes through a period like this at some point. Take Germany after World War II. They were in financial ruin. Then look at Germany now. Everyone rebounds back eventually. No matter where you are, it'll happen. It's not just the Americans.

lol we allll know canada is the best country in the world ;D /PATRIOTISMWUTWUT

@ freds post on guns

In America, EVERYONE owns a gun.

In England, NO ONE owns a gun.

In America, there are tens of thousands of gun related deaths every year.

In England, there's usually not more than a hundred, if even that high.

There is no connection here.

there will be one person that takes my post too literally and will go "I KNOW AN ENGLISHMEN THAT OWNS A GUN, AND IM AN AMERICAN AND I DONT OWN A GUN"

@lexi

thats a good post, i like it. /useless response

Like I said before, they make up for the lack of shootings with stabbings. And also like I said before it's easier to figure out who killed the person if someone used a gun.

stabbing aren't a major problem, and knife are not aloud, they get them illegully

Yes stabbings are a problem and no you don't need to get an illegal knife to stab someone. A regular kitchen knife is all you need.

It's not odd to know a lot about a foreign country. I take great interest in world history and know quite a bit about Russia, England, Rome, Greece, Eygpt, China, Germany, and a little bit about France.

you're right about the knife thing, and i do actually agree it is almost as big a problem as guns in america.

but knowing history of countries doesn't mean you know alot about the country. and lol i don't think englands had any interesting history apart from the middle ages, and that was a long time ago

America is kind of "meh" IMO. For a country that claims to be the ultimate source for freedom, it in the long run ain't got much.

One sound sums it up,

BLEEEEEP

Censorship. I hate it. Is there even a point to it? Everyone is going to know what it's supposed to say anyway. There is so much crap that you can't do on television in America.

Yet, I've heard of a Canadian cartoon at the same level as something like The Simpsons that has uncensored nudity and such.

America needs adjustments, especially after the 8 year-long shit George W. Bush took all over America. Obama's trying to clean the dried fecal matter off the floor of America, give him some time. He can't just take out a massively powerful pressure washer to get rid of it.

Also, you have to be 18 to vote. How about an IQ test instead?

21 to drink. Most countries have it quite below there. America is tied with other countries for the highest legal drinking age on the planet. Completely illogical. And this is coming from an alcohol hater.

America ain't as free as they make it out to be, kids.

Actually England had one of the largest empires up until world war one. And I also know quite a bit about British laws an policies since I've been there many times and have three friends there that I know in real life.

england has quite the interesting history. /nerd

though hes right when he says knowing the history =/= knowing the country.

figuring out who killed who doesnt matter as much as stopping it in the first place. even there deaths by knives isnt as high as america's death by guns / random shootings. why are crazy, depressed teenagers able to get their hands on guns in the first place?

lets end that spot thar tho and not turn this into a gun control or lack thereof discussion lol

@rho

That's not taking away freedom, really. I think many parents are probably thankful for it. What if it were legal for eight-year-olds to drink alchohol? They're trying to prevent deaths, ect.

@Cella (not da last post--the SECOND to last x3)

I know I'm amazing ;3

It does matter actually, if people are getting caught there would be less motivation to commit the crime.

But I agree, lets stop this thread from getting derailed more then it already has.

Sorry to burst your bubble but other countries have oppressed gays for thousands of years and many still do. The thing about America is we are starting to move away from that where as some ancient countries aren't.

Think about it, we changed our opinion of Gays in less than 250 years.

Countries such as Egypt, and China have been around thousands of years and show little interest in Gay rights.

And you may be onto something Eterna, many homosexuals are more intelligent then the average heterosexual.

It could be that my reasoning skills are so awesome. After all I will control the earth either secretly or publicly by 2030. After all, reasoning is how I will get to power while staying under the radar.;)

Way I sse it the UK, America & Canada are pretty nice countries IMO and I can formulate an honest opinion about the UK since I lived there for like 5 years. Although all I know about Canada and the US are how its being presented to me and how I interpret that. They've got their pros and cons I suppose its how you percieve them in the end. Mind you Im not to crazy bout censorship

@Fredfredbug4, Dude we'll all be dead by then.

Anyway my entire town hates America. I live in a small border town in BC and for some reason Americans think it's okay to fly jets over us at 6 in the morning. The jets fly around us for a bit then head back South I mean, what's the point of that? A jet once crashed into our mountin which caused a forest fire that lasted about 2 weeks.

We have a saw mill here that's how we get our money most of the lumber we cut went to the States until they decided they didn't need us anymore. Half the people here lost their jobs including my dad and we still haven't recovered. Many have moved and the people that can't afford to move are having a hard time.
