AwesomeKHfan 1,250 Posted April 12, 2017 (edited) Don't get me wrong or anything but jees I was playing Kingdom Hearts 1 again a game a dislike but there is something that always brings me back I don't know what it is but I am getting of topic. Could they have atleast updated the facial animations so many moments in KH1 I can't take serious because of the defalt face thing. On PS2, DS and PSP I can forgive them but hell this is the third time these games got released they could atleast update the facial animations. Edit: just look up the Halo remaster Edited April 12, 2017 by AwesomeKHfan
Moshroca97_57662 7 Posted April 12, 2017 Or they could have delayed KH3. :T 6 The Transcendent Key, WayfindersDestiny, Hero of Light XIV and 3 others reacted to this
WayfindersDestiny 172 Posted April 12, 2017 Man you should see what goes into facial animations...it's rough lol. Depends on the model, tri count, blinn shapes, not entirely sure what goes into taking animations from one model to another though to make it work smoothly aha. 1 Hero of Light XIV reacted to this
Hero of Light XIV 2,381 Posted April 12, 2017 Are people STILL bugged by that of all things? Geez, if having blah-blah faces means that my game isn't running extra hard trying not to crash at 60 fps, I'll take it. But no seriously, those faces never bothered me that much, that's more of a niche pet-peeve you've got there. The fact of the matter is that you can't have super-realistic or super-expressive expressions for every single bit of screened dialogue in a game because that takes a lot of time, work, processing power, and various other factors that go into the whole process. And those tend to be pretty specific expressions too, where they tend to pertain to the specific situation the character is in, when other times there's plenty of times where a simpler generic expression could work just as well for any lesser moments. I'm not exactly looking for Sora to have beautiful accurate lip-syncing for every little line, dialogue, and silent reaction shot the game has, I just need what works, and this works for what it is, a tolerable way of cutting corners when you just can't reasonably put that much detail into every bit of dialogue, especially when you need to keep dubbing in mind. Is it really that important that we see Sora's face be fully expressive from a far-away shot? No, no it isn't. And it's the first freaking game you're complaining about. Running on a PS4 or not, it's still a PS2 game at it's core. I'm not expecting them to fix what the game already was, I'm just expecting them to make it look prettier, run smoother, and play more comfortably. They already replaced most of the models, trying to rework how their movements and face animations work would have just taken way too much time to figure out, especially considering that they freaking lost most of the original data from when they first made KH1! They had to work with whatever they had while making most of it from the ground-up. Touching up that game probably required the most amount of work out of any of the remixes, I'm just happy that they were able to successfully complete it at all. The last thing I was asking of them was for the game to animate as if it wasn't what it truly was, an early PS2 game. There's asking for improvements on legitimate issues like bugs and crashing and stuff like that, and then there's just having unrealistic expectations. May as well ask them to just strait up remake and reboot KH while you're at it. 7 The Transcendent Key, Moshroca97_57662, Philip Ellwell and 4 others reacted to this
HeyMouseSayCheese 1,133 Posted April 12, 2017 (edited) just look up the Halo remaster Well, no, that's not an accurate comparison. Halo: CE Anniversary is a total remake in completely different engine than the original. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 is basically a port of an early PS2 game, with some necessary updated character models and music. The core game is still the same, hence mouth flaps. Not that I don't agree with you, the facial animations tend to be pretty bad, and for sure I'd love it if they could actually remake the game to both look and play better. That's just not a very realistic expectation, and really, I want them to focus on KH3 as much as humanly possible. (Besides, the big draw for me was finally being able to play Final Mix without importing or emulating, PS2 limitations be damned.) Guest Posted April 12, 2017 (edited) People, you have to remember that these were games originally designed for the PlayStation 2 (aside from Birth by Sleep which was designed for the PlayStation Portable). The remixes are simply remasters with 1080p support and widescreen definition. Nothing more, nothing less. Edited April 12, 2017 by Guest
Neoshadow99 31 Posted April 12, 2017 The "default" expressions never actually bothered me that much. I can see why they would be off-putting in 2017, though. Still, what KH1, and especially KH2, accomplished on the technologically-limited PS2 is nothing short of impressive. I'm definitely looking forward to jumping back in to all these games on 1.5 + 2.5, though I finished BBS: FM earlier this year. And playing through COM is always a great experience, too, mainly due to that dark story with escalating tension. Some of my favorite scenes in the series are from COM, and rightfully so. KeybladeMasterBalo 504 Posted April 12, 2017 Simple: It takes way more time to make this kind of expressions stuff, that's why games like KHIII are taking such a long long time to develop. If you have watched KH0.2BBS you'll notice that not a single cutscene has a plain flat unemotional expression. Every cutscene has the face of the characters interacting and all. Imagine the time they're taking to make this into KHIII... the previously called "longest" game in the series... I mean if you think about it yeah they could've gone to the point of doing this but it would affect other game's development times. It's not that bothersome anyway, I like how it maintains the memories from back in 2002 when the game was released.

It also has a lot of comedic effect when they use 10 vowels for one word
The Transcendent Key 12,109 Posted April 13, 2017 (edited) Lol, I've always found the fish face versions of the KH characters funny as hell, and honestly, it's something that's never really bothered me, to be honest! 0.2 changed that, though, so that should make you happy!
