I love the first episode so much that I already feel like watching it for a third time.

It just did so many things right, not only for a YGO first episode, but for animes in general.

Akira's info confirmed that he does, in fact, care about his sister but just doesn't have the chance to show it. 

What interests me the most is Yusaku's info though.

First, we now know that he avoids contacts with other people not because of the risk about his secret identity, but because he trusts no one but Kusanagi.

Second, we now have a confirmation that their target is Hanoi, which confirms that they are responsible for the incident.

Third, it means that he doesn't even trust his parents. Which leads to the following likely options:

 

First option: Yusaku's parents are irrelevant like with GX and DM. 

Second option: Yusaku's parents are missing(please no..)

Third option: Yusaku's parents are dead(The most likely option).

I just really hope that they don't recycle the ideas from Arc-V/ZEXAL(missing parents that know and planned what our main protag is doing) or from 5D's(The parents are partly responsible for the death of countless people before they died), unless it is something which I consider extremely unlikely, which is that Yusaku's father is actually Revolver. It could be really cool, but it is very unlikely.

It's rather mundane now

 

Dead parents would be good, it would develop Yusaku's character quite well. Some backstory as well so we know what happened, assuming it's relevant to the plot.

Episode 2 review:

 

 

Alright, so first, we got more details about Yusaku. We can see Kusanagi's younger brother got imprisoned somewhere, and I really wonder about who the mysterious person who gave Yusaku is. So far, Yusaku's past is the thing I am most interested in the plot.

Secondly, we now know that death/severe damage in the VR world basically means death/severe mental damage in real life. That means that all these people who got burnt alive freaking died or got put into a coma or something.

And Thirdly, Aoi saved Yusaku. This should make the annoying people who screamed that Aoi is a damsel shut up. 

 

Now, for the duel itself:

1. I don't mind the speed duels. They get 4K LP, and  skills are far better than action cards and they are one time only, so they can't get abused. Also, both duelist can use them, instead of Yuma's Shining Draw(which we got an explanation about like 100 episodes later) and had only 2 duels where Yuma and his opponent used them. They can actually make the duels interesting if used right. I do hope that major duels are Master Duels though

2. Yusaku (slightly) smiled during the duel on some occasions, so Kusanagi was right about that. Yusaku will probably grow to enjoy duelling as the series progress.

Considering it was my favourite part in GX, I am pretty happy. Speaking of which it also looks interesting seeing Yusaku learning how to speed duel, even though he probably speed dueled before getting his amnesia.

3. I loved that Yusaku used cracking Dragon's effects for his own advantage in order to summon Decode Talker, which got an amazing summoning sequence, by the way. Yusaku's voice actor nailed it. Usually strats like this are in major duels.

 

 

Lastly, some other stuff:

1. I really love Yusaku and the AI's relationship. The backlash is so funny and it got a lot of humour, yet they are both helpful to each other. You can see that Ignis consider Yusaku a partner from some of the dialogue(as when he encourages him to endure the Storm Acess), but Yusaku just sees him as a tool.

2. I love the running gag of "Yusaku is obsessed with the number 3." Three-Strike-Barrier is pretty much a joke on that, and the scene about Yusaku's motivation to win was so funny because of it, while still managing to remain awesome.

3. It looks like Yusaku meets Revolver in the next episode from the preview or he just ran from his dragon. I can't wait for the next episode.

Some people theorize that it's some of other characters like Go and Aoi(we know the her parents are dead)

Also, I forgot it in my review, but it really seems like Yusaku's parents are actually dead now.

Link Summoning was epic. Speed duel rules are interesting. Nice to see them be innovative with the game. Aoi saving Yusaku was cool too, but we still need more of her. Gotta love Ignis too

I love how Revolver does the "3 things" running gag as well.

So Go is after popularity, but still got honour.

The AI devouring the Knight was awesome, and caught me off-guard

And yeah it starts dark and gives priority to the plot and characters rather than having filler duels, which the only spin-off that did it so far was 5D's(and it is doing better)

The humour was on point and right at the exact moments(before Revolver is trying to hack into the computers, and with Naoki), and Akira meeting Ema in the middle of traffic gave me a good laugh

Oh, and I didn't expect them to give the little robot role to such a big voice actor lol

Revolver is the most interesting thing in the episode though. Like Yusaku, he can sense Eye and the VR world, and we also got a shot of how he looks IRL. He looks like Yusei

I am glad they kept the rich person with father issues. Though this time, instead of his father being an asshole or just an idiot, he is very sick, and I really love that-Revolver actually loves his father.

Lastly, Yusaku doesn't screw around and I love it:

Go: Hey duel me!

Aoi: No, duel me!

Yusaku: firetruck you, I don't care about neither of you, I am out of this shit *logs off*

IF, strong IF, Revolver is Kusanagi's brother, something happened with his aging process? Like it stopped at were it was or it accelerated and then stopped for what ever reason? Just shooting out some ideas here, I have no real idea for how it would be possible

The OST was great. I am not sure if it is because I used my TV to watch it this time(and since no other person was in my house, the volume was quite high), but I really liked it.

Gotta say though, I really love how analytic Yusaku is. In addition to noticing the opponent's reactions in duels to understand what the opponent is planning, he realized that the disguise is fake after logging in, when he got a closer view.

Agreed. Love the Roboppy and Ignis scene! I can see them becoming the next Orbital 7 and Lilybot (Zexal)  :smile:

 

I feel so sorry for Yusaku's living situation: the condition that apartment is in looks horrible.
