Should KH3 be rated T for Teen?

Recommended Posts

I know some of you would disagree with me, but Sora is going to be mature in KH3. I was thinking that since this was the case, there might be slightly darker themes in the game, and so the game could accumulate a T rating, in my opinion.

Not if Disney has anything to say about it.

I'm pretty sure Disney's fine with T-rated material. The video Game based off of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" was rated T.

Pirate of the Caribbean games were T rated for a while

So I don't necessarily think Disney is the issue here moreso than the direction the series is taking with it's writing and how much themes are either used or undermined\dumbed down

I think it would hurt its market a little, considering the series so far hasn't been geared toward just one demographic. With Pirates, it's a little different; those games are meant to be darker given the subject matter of the films and people more than likely expect that going into them.

Honestly, though, I don't think a T rating is necessary for KH3 to be darker than its predecessors. I think it can accomplish that without offending too many people.

No,because of Disney.

Kingdom Hearts is fine the way it is. Yeah it's dark in some points. But this kind of darkness is blunted, not sharp.

If it was rated T, then many things could be potentially desired.

And I think when said: Sora will be matured in KH3, I think they mean in strength. His strength, if not some of his naivety will be rubbed off.

i doubt Sora is going to actually be more mature in this game. he's gotten increasingly less mature in recent games so idk why they would suddenly do a 180 now.

KH3 is definitely not going to be T though. language won't be an issue, the violence mostly involves flashes and sparks but little no blood, and the themes aren't suggestive.

at most it'll get an E10 rating like the other games.

The most mature Sora was in KH1.......sadly it went downhill from there as they turned him into a  walking shonen troupe of the "dumb guy with heart of gold" who's oblivious to everything until the plot demands his involvement

Yeah Nomura did make Sora a Naruto type of character. In KH2 I liked him but KH1 was the best Sora. He literally questioned reality at the beginning, 6 year old me was impressed.

well it was said that you can play KH3 withouth playing all the other games so I am pretty sure disney will try to get all the 6-12 demographic aswell. But I feel that a age rating dosent mean anything much these days anyway so If they do it right they can put all the heavy stuff in there they want and get away with it. Also has everybody forgotten that most disney movies have heavy themes as well and they are for everyone including hercules were there is a decapitation, tangled where someone is stabbed by a woman that kidnapped and brainwashed an innocent girl for 18 years, genocide in mulan for petes sake!

But than again videogames still are treaded with a different standart the all other forms of art sooo we will see

Not really, unless you want everyone cursing in every other sentence, drawing blood from touching any wall, and everyone's outfits to show more skin than necessary. "Mature" just means Sora isn't in his KH1 appearance anymore, he's still just as goofy as he's always been. Did he really sound that mature in 0.2 to you? KH can still get dark without having to delve into the "hardcore edgy" zone, I mean the idea of a guy turning 12 other people into clones of himself? That's already pretty dark, and no blood or swearing or anything that really constitutes a T rating was needed. Giving them a T rating won't give them more options, it would just burden them with figuring out "well great, now how do we justify this rating?". If anything, the rating usually comes AFTER the game is mostly completed, when there's actually something to review and judge. They can go into development with the idea that "we should probably make this game with a ____ rating in mind", but it's not like the company says "here, you have permission to make a M rated game using only iconic Disney characters. ~Good luuuuuuck!~" Anytime Kingdom Hearts needs to "push the envelope", it still stays well within E10 territory, and honestly it's just fine that way. I don't see any reason why it has to essentially force itself to try and appeal to a audience that wants it to be more "hardcore" when they're already getting that now as it is. Excessive blood, swearing, and other T features aren't what make "darker stories" great, they're just the bits that might make the story more disturbing for some viewers to watch.

I'm from the UK where we use a different rating system: What age is a T rating for? The reason I ask is because Kingdom Hearts games are often rated 12+ here, which would be close to a lower teen, but there's no way they'd ever be rated 15+ or 18+, which would be an older teen or adult only.

Then again, PEGI clearly have different priorities to ESRB in regards to what constitutes a certain rating, so I don't know if they'd be comparable.

Well, considering that this story so far has shown a massive genocide of Keyblade Wielders, an old man possessing the body of another man, a person being exploited so that their dark power would come out, a group of people being deceived into thinking they have no hearts, and therefore, doing unspeakable things in order to obtain their lost hearts, a boy sacrificing himself by stabbing himself with a Keyblade, an incarnation of the old man possessing a teenage boy, a boy who's friendship with two others breaks apart due to dark machinations...I could go on!

With these things and the dark themes present, a T rating should have appeared quite a while ago!

I'm guessing since the final point of the Xehanort Saga will most probably have the darkest moments we've seen, a T rating is more than likely!
