lux 13 Posted January 31, 2017 So I was looking for more information about the Foretellers and I found something interesting about the names given by MoM for his 6 apprentices: Ira - based on "Ira", Wrath in latin Gula - based on "Gula", Gluttony in latin Invi - based on "Invidia" Envy in latin Aced - based on "Acedia", Sloth in latin Ava - based on "Avaritia", Greed in latin Luxu - base on "Luxuria", Lust in latin If you are famiar with the Christian faith you will recgonise those as 6 of the 7 deadly sins. There is only one missing, pride. But pride in the 7 deadly sins is also known as vanity, wich in latin is named VANITAS. They all have the gazing eye in their 7 keyblades. Well, what do you guys think? 5 RikuFangirl2008, catmaster0116, 0blit3rati0n and 2 others reacted to this
KHUndertaleFan25 2,858 Posted January 31, 2017 Oh my gosh. How old could Vanitas be?
lux 13 Posted January 31, 2017 Maybe Vanitas is not that old. Like, those are not the Foretellers real names, they were given by MoM as "New names" for his apprentices, and Vanitas was also a given name for the unversed of Ventus. Maybe there is a connection between the logic for names given by MoM and Master Xehanort
The Transcendent Key 12,109 Posted January 31, 2017 Yeah, the whole Seven Deadly Sins/Foretellers dynamic is pretty unique and intriguing, and I'm very curious to know who pride is! I'm sure it's most likely the Master Of Masters, but now that you mentioned that pride is another word for vanity, which in turn means Vanitas, it makes me wonder how Vanitas himself actually fits into all of this! O.O I do think that the Master Of Masters is the remaining deadly sin, though!

Maybe there is a connection between the logic for names given by MoM and Master Xehanort Lol, dude, you are so late to the party, people have been noticing this since the original X (Chi)'s second year! But yeah, basically that's the connection of all their names. Except, you got some things wrong about Vanitas. For one thing, Xehanort named him that for the term "Emptiness", since he is nothing but Darkness. Also, that does not make him "Ven's Unversed". Unversed are just the pure raw negative emotions that came from Vanitas, Vanitas himself isn't an Unversed. He's just a being made entirely out of Darkness. If anything that would make him closer to a Heartless, and even then he isn't a Heartless since that's not how they're formed anyway, so it doesn't make sense to call him anything other than Ven's Dark Half. Besides, while vanity (the literal word that vanitas translates to) could be described as excessive pride or admiration of one's own appearance or achievements, that's not the official Latin word for pride. The real term is SUPERBIA. Vanity is just a type of pride, in particular towards one's looks and achievements. Superbia is pride in general, it can be more than just self-praise. Take Goku and Vegeta for instance. They both have their own sense of pride in that they rather face their enemies by relying on their own strength instead of the strength of others (though Goku is always the first to accept the help of others when the situation calls for it). Pride has many different shades, but overall as a sin it's meant to represent a misplaced value over one's own self or qualities, basically an excess in self-respect. It's not specific to one's own looks or accomplishments, but rather multi-encompassing. So if anything, the Master of Master's name is likely derived from Superbia, and there is one piece of evidence that supports this, at least partially. If you pay close enough attention to the box he gives Luxu at the end of the story, there is an emblem on the top with 13 spikes that has a word in the middle: Xsuper. There's no telling if this is actually the MoM's name or not, but it was a box in his possession, he's the seventh member of this group (even counted himself out loud at some point), everyone else is named after the 6 other sins, and his box literally has more than half of the final sin's name on it, plus the tell-tale sign of the Recusant's Sigil, the X. How does that lost page go? The traitor is "The one who bears the sigil"? That box literally has a menacing X on it, and in a way, the MoM was setting everyone up to turn against one another out of suspicion, kind of making him the treacherous one. But then again, by that logic, Luxu could also be the traitor, what with having an X in his name and he is the one in possession of the box in the end. But you were never asking about that were you? Point is, Superbia is more likely to be the term you should be looking out for, not Vanitas again. And come on, would you seriously expect to see Vanitas acting all that jovial around people like that? The guy is kind of a jerk, he would get annoyed of someone like the MoM in an instant. 1 catmaster0116 reacted to this
Nukara Rikova 50 Posted February 3, 2017 I wonder how the names are given foreteller have contact with their kind? Same Ava does not look like a greedy man. I hope you understand what I have written and that I am not strong in English.

Actually, when the seven deadly sins were first created, there were eight and they were: Gula (gluttony) Luxuria (lust) Avaritia (greed) Superbia (pride) Ira (wrath) Acedia (sloth) Vanagloria (vainglory) Tristitia (despair) It wasn't until 590 when the pope of that time combined Superbia and Vanagloria together, as well as Acedia and Tristitia, and then decided to add Invi (envy), and thus his new list became the seven sins we all know now. So technically, lux is correct in that Vanitas is a sin (though the word used was Vanagloria), but now Superbia is for both pride and vanity. But I do agree with you that MoM's name is not Vanitas, and is taken from the word Superbia instead. Also, I agree with you that the Vanitas we know is not the MoM; Xehanort himself said that Vanitas is the darkness in Ventus's heart.

Also, I agree with you that the Vanitas we know is not the MoM; Xehanort himself said that Vanitas is the darkness in Ventus's heart. Plus, narrative wise, it just wouldn't make sense to have Vanitas have that big of a role, as much as I like the guy. It'd make much more sense for him to simply be one of the other unrevealed Seekers of Darkness. If you really want, you could say that maybe Xehanort was drawing inspiration from MoM and gave Vanitas a Latin name after a sin, but even then it was just to match the naming convention Ventus, Terra, and Aqua had, and that's suggesting that Xehanort even knows of MoM at all, which we don't know yet. As far as we know, Xehanort has his own motives and direction, but the actions of MoM thru Luxu may have set off a chain of events that eventually led to Xehanort acting, like a domino effect with Xehanort as the last piece. Whether he's aware of his place in that or not will be made clear in KH3. And again, like I said, the box has freaking "SUPER" on it, that's about as subtle of a clue as having Ventus' name mean wind (another form of air) and having him look exactly like Roxas, it literally spells itself out.
