Dio Brando 5,810 Posted January 20, 2017 (edited) Note:If an official thread has already been made for this, notify me then merge it with the original thread if there is one I've noticed a severe lack of Jojo here over at KH13 so I thought y'know what?We need an official thread for anything and everything Jojo Couple of rules though: 1\When discussing parts of the manga, remember to put spoilers on crucial endgame moments 2\Be respectful during discussions 3\DO A JOJO POSE(just kidding) There will be an additional extra rule added when an adaptation of future parts get announced but I'll save that for another time Edited January 20, 2017 by Smash Mega Koopa

Firaga 5,947 Posted January 20, 2017 (edited) JoJo? More like Jo-BLOWS, hahahahaha... hahaha... heh heh... eh... okay but for real now: I was recommended to check out JoJo sometime ago, right around the time that the Stardust Crusaders was set to come out. At first I wanted to just jump into Stardust Crusaders just because it was new at the time and because, also at the time, it was the story arc that was the official introduction to JoJo in America as well as a the basis of the glimpses of JoJo I've seen on the interwebs and such. But, I eventually caved in and started with the first season of JoJo and watched it all the way through, and then watched Stardust Crusaders, and then followed suit with Diamond Is Unbreakable and so on and so forth. Now keep in mind that as of now, I'm a purely anime-only fan. Not that I don't have an interest in the manga, I do plan on reading it sometime, but as of now, it's just easier for me to dive into the new anime series and experience everything strictly from there. But from what I've seen: I really do enjoy this series. It's very plain to see that it sticks to a certain style, a style that is, for lack of a better word, "bizarre", but it works, and for the most part, it works very well for what it does with it combining boisterous characters, fun and creative action pieces, and a general sense of both ridiculousness and full on manliness. As for the story arcs I've seen so far: (spoiler tagged for plot details and in case I ramble) Phantom Blood: Eh, it is what it is. Not terrible, but obviously a product of its time and a sign that original author Hirohiko Araki was still getting his feet wet on the whole "drawing an original manga" thing but was mostly just doing a Fist of the North Star clone. Again, it's not terrible, but it's obvious as to why most people see this as one of if not the weakest story arc overall, not that you can really blame it, you just kinda have to deal with it. Battle Tendency: Now this part, even though still being largely the same as PB, was definetly a precursor to what would eventually blossom into the defining elements of JoJo, particularly in how it ramped up the "bizarre" and introduced the kind of creative/complicated battle scenes that future parts would use as well. Stardust Crusaders: Best. Part. Yet. Not even kidding. I don't care if Jotaro isn't as quirky as Joseph, he's still awesome. I don't care how much screen time Polnareff got over the other guys, he's still awesome and everybody else is still awesome regardless. I don't care if Joseph isn't a badass punk like he was in BT, he's hilarious and still manages to carry some of that charm over even as an old fart. I don't care if it has a Monster of the Day formula or follows a more episodic story, it was enthralling and made it seem like a true blue adventure. I don't care if DIO seemed even more of an OP villain than the original, that's the goddamn point. This part has everything and more than the last two parts has and I am so glad that I have a chance to experience it all again when I read the manga and hopefully when the anime gets an English dub (I also watched the dub for the first season, but I'll discuss that later) Diamond Is Unbreakable: ... oh boy. Uh, if you follow my status updates, you might already know that I was a bit frustrated with this part and overall just didn't really like it. Well, honestly, now that the anime is over, and I look back on it... yeah, still kinda sucks. Okay for but real, I just didn't like it. Injecting a slice-of-life element into JoJo while still trying to follow the episodic nature of SC just didn't flat work. I don't care about the mundane lives of a bunch of punks when there's a freaking serial killer on the loose, a serial killer mind you that can't even get a dignified ending despite being the best character but no, we gotta let the stupid ghost girl who only exists to make him look even more like an asshole get the last laugh (I will admit that the sequence itself was pretty well handled though). But again, I just don't care, and I especially don't care when the JoJo just feels like a poor man's Joseph with no distinguishing personality quirks other than worrying about his (admittingly cool) haircut and more than half of the supporting cast are unlikeable assholes or who barely contribute to anything at all, one of which I hate not just because he's an asshole but also because he's a self-insert (I think it's obvious who I'm referring to). You can't even bring back Joseph again because now he's all senile and junk and barely contributes to anything either. Also, are we really just going to gloss over the fact that the JoJo is an illegitimate child of Joseph? Like, for real? Joseph cheated on Susie Q and the most we're going to do is just play it off as comedy as well as... again, just kinda ignore it? That's really f*cked up. I'm supposed to like these characters, right? So yeah, that's the long and the short of it. Mostly the long. Shard the Gentleman 2,891 Posted January 21, 2017 BLASPHEMY It felt too "Monster of the Week" to me. I mean, I like plot, and while it has a strong ending, the majority of Stardust Crusaders was random fights with no progression aside from "We got to the next city" for about 24 episodes. I mean, it isn't bad, but it's my least favorite. Part Five is probably my favorite.

But adventures are fun. And it makes the end goal all that much sweeter. Plus, Stands are awesome and are always creative. It's still lightyears better than DiU's approach in "let's just f*ck around until the serial killer bumps into a side character and kickstarts the plot... and then f*ck around some more until another side character kickstarts the plot again." I haven't read much of part 5 yet but people tell me it's one of the most if not the most broken stand in all of Jojo Gold Experience isn't broken until the very end, due to certain circumstances that you might be aware of already but I'm gonna put in a second spoiler just in case Gold Experience becomes a requiem stand, which is a stand pierced again by the arrow, allowing it to gain an ability that would be most convenient for the user at the time of the piercing. Xiro 3,468 Posted January 21, 2017 I don't know why people think it's bad, maybe because of the translations being rotten (hopefully anime adaption will fix) iirc there are new scans for most of the chapters, so translation's better (last few volumes still suffering tho lol) Honestly I didn't think the ending was as good as the rest of the part. Partially because of the old scans being bad and partially because of throwing in the Requiems. And then KC and GE/R just being broken af. I think most of the rest of the part is pretty solid though. Well if we wanna be technical requiems existed since part 4 when Yoshikage Kira obtained Bites the Dust for his stand Killer Queen.Yes I know what I said ain't anything new but I think the point of requiem stands is how broken and specific they can be cuz if it wasn't for Jotaro stopping time at the very last possible second.......Kira would've been absolutely unstoppable Although if we wanna be even more technical,Okuyasu's stand The Hand would've been the most broken thing ever if Okuyasu wasn't an idiot Edited January 21, 2017 by Smash Mega Koopa

Instead, what the arrow really did, was allow Kira to fully realize the potential of his stand and what he could do with it. There's only one arrow that can actually give Requiem stands, the Beetle Arrow. All six arrows do something different. Some are sentient and some are not (ex, the arrow that Black Sabbath had was a nonsentient arrow, and it stabbed Giorno without giving him a requiem stand. The Arrow in p4 was sentient and was an arrow of Potential.) 1 Dio Brando reacted to this
