What's considered "Too new" for Kingdom Hearts?

Recommended Posts

Kingdom Hearts 3 is still "a long way" says Tetsuya Nomura, how long will it be before we see anything new or a release date? I don't know, but one thing has been making me think lately. Sense KH3 is still in development, do you think it's possible for us to see the new disney films besides Big Hero 6? Such as Moana? Remember, the development team sometimes gets to see certain films before they come out for the game so it's entirely possible. With that being said, what exactly is considered "too new" for Kingdom Hearts?

It really all depends. But I would say anything that got released while the game is in it's last stage of development. Pretty much once the worlds are decided and made, there aren't going to be any last second additions. There's always a chance that they got access to Moana assets to make a world off it or other movies made within a similar time frame, but I think anything after Summer 2017-onward is off the table. Nomura said they still have to start work on the other worlds they have selected, and unless that already included worlds based off of movies coming out in 2017 and 2018 in the first place, there's a good chance that 2016 might be the most recent year we see for a new Disney world, 2017 at the latest. This is all still assuming that KH3 comes out in 2018 of course, which we haven't gotten a solid word on yet.

The one thing I can tell you is that, Wreck-It Ralph 2 will be released in March 2018 and Gigantic in November 2018. Now, if we "assume" that there's no Pixar worlds, then Moana is definitely the cut-off point because the only Disney animated film coming at 2017 is Pixar's Coco.

Personally, I feel as though Nomura made a last minuite decision to add Moana into the game and replace a former world in consideration. Why else would there be "trouble adding a world"?

Don't think they will add Moana. it is better that they will add Lilo&Stitch.

The break number so far is Tron Legacy, which came out less than a year and a half before DDD. DDD was very rushed however, so adding aVERY recent world in may have been possible just due to the rushing process - it's possible that by this point in KH3's development all the worlds have been decided in a while, even if they are not all created in-game yet, there is no way of knowing considering how little we know of KH3's development process

Well, I think that anything from this year onward would be too new. I think that at most, we'd get Disney films up to last year that have the possibility of appearing in Kingdom Hearts III!  Remember, Nomura said a long while back that all worlds had been selected, and then in another time, he said that the skeleton of the game is basically complete!  With that being said, all worlds that were considered to be brought into Kingdom Hearts III were already selected, so I'm sure that films up to last year are likely candidates! If Nomura got to see Zootopia and Moana before anyone else, then maybe they could be worlds in Kingdom Hearts III! I mean, why are characters from those films medals in Unchained X? Just to promote their films? I think there's a deeper meaning behind that, ya know? :3

Well, "new" for me (in this context) is a movie that would be released around/right before/right after KH3's release date (Which my guess is a 2018 release).

But that's just your personal opinion. Factually, movies released at 2016 is the definitive breaking point for Walt Disney Animation Studios movies, because their next movie, Wreck-It Ralph 2 releases in 2018.

You mean because of the long pause that there will be before their next feature animation?

That's exactly the reason why. Thanks for the correction. Kingdom Hearts isn't going to wait for the next Disney theatrical release to complete itself, by then Kingdom Hearts III would be in a more complete state. 2016 was a special year for Disney Animation because it's the first time in a long time where they've released two theatrical movies in the same year (cleverly, one in the beginning of the year and the other near the end).

1) Honestly, my friend, KH3 is taking sooooooooooooooo much time to come out that I don't even doubt that SE might wait for Disney's next feature animation to be released to promote its world in the game or vice-versa.

2) Actually, it's the 2nd time they've done that. The first year was 2002, when they released Lilo and Stitch and Treasure Planet in the same year.   ;)

Please read carefully, I clearly said "first time in a long time". And trust me, they can't play the waiting game any longer. 2.8 was the literal breaking point just because Dream Drop Distance was the only Standard Definition game that didn't have a High Definition counterpart and that was bundled with 0.2 Birth by Sleep. Any other "side games" or further delays is just going to be problematic.

1) Oops, my bad, didn't notice that, my sincerest apologies.

2) If we're talking about KH3, Nomura-san and SE, I strongly suggest you to not doubt them.   :

No Disney movies are "too new" to be in Kingdom Hearts III as of currently, because Nomura said that there are still worlds that they haven't begun working on at all and that remain completely untouched. (Source.)

So, this means that Moana, Zootopia, The Good Dinosaur, etc. all have a chance.

Thing  is just because they haven't started making these worlds that doesn't mean they aren't in the story, it's probably written in a script or text document somewhere what worlds will be in the game and where they will fit in the main story, but don't lose heart as Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming out on systems that well have DLC features so new worlds can be added to Kingdom Hearts 3 whether they will have story significance is up to what the developers want to do.

There is no such thing as too new. If they want it to be in KH, they'll put it in. Simple as that.

I must be quite honest. I agree with this. When it comes to KH whatever works and whatever they can get into the game without hassles of licensing and permission to use characters makes it.
