Shulk 8,623 Posted January 13, 2017 Xenoblade 2 (Or Xenoblade Chronicles 2) has just been confirmed for release on the Nintendo Switch. It looks to be a direct sequel to Xenoblade on the Wii, taking a departure from the sci-fi setting of Xenoblade X to return to the original game's fantasy world. Soraya Saga, the wife of the game's director and employee at Monolith Soft, has stated that the game is to be released some time in 2017. There aren't many more details on the game, but as with Xenoblade X, I'll keep this thread updated on the most recent news about the game! Is anyone else looking forward to Monolith Soft's next game? 4 Sendou Aichi, Hero of Winds, Setrex and 1 other reacted to this

(I don't know what all you have in terms of consoles so yeah ) I'd second what Xiro said, although it probably won't be a big deal if you can't play X before this one (Not to say it's a bad game, but it doesn't tie into Xenoblade 1 so it probably won't tie into this one either). Since it looks like it's a direct sequel to the original Xenoblade, that would probably help you understand more about the lore/world of this one. That being said, the trailer didn't show any of the original cast, so it might not be that important to play the original Xenoblade before this. Both of the currently-released Xenoblade games are fantastic games to play if you get the chance, though. This certainly looks like it's going to be another great entry! Sendou Aichi 2,356 Posted January 13, 2017 I expect an X port, but this is much better. So, it looks like the Monado is back(Which is a major plus for me, it is one of my favourite weapons in video games challenged only by the Blade of Ahrah from Dust) ACE are handling the music again, so that's another plus The MC's(assuming that is the MC) design+the art style in general is a turn off for me, I preferred the first Xenoblade's art style. Interested how they handle the story, considering XC's ending.

Mild spoiler, the environment still looks to be Bionis to me, so I feel as though this may be a prequel that leads to the Bionis and Mechonis war. I'd love to see a younger Dunban during his "hero days".
Shulk 8,623 Posted January 13, 2017 Mild spoiler, the environment still looks to be Bionis to me, so I feel as though this may be a prequel that leads to the Bionis and Mechonis war. I'd love to see a younger Dunban during his "hero days". I think this takes place in the new world Alvis creates at the end of the original. It looks similar to the Bionis, sure, but we saw Colony 9 in the ending of Xenoblade, so the Bionis' locations seemed to transfer over. There was no Mechonis in the distance here, so I don't think that this is going to take place on the Bionis. The constantly looming Mechonis was an iconic sight from the Bionis, if this was the same locations then I think they would have shown that. Besides, after X, having the new game take place in a smaller world we've already been to would feel kind of underwhelming. Alvis' new world would open up a ton of opportunities. 1 Sendou Aichi reacted to this

I suppose you have a legitimate point there. After all, it is called Xenoblade Chronicles 2, the only sequel that I know is a prequel is The Godfather 2 and that's not even a video game. I'm really intrigued as to what philosophical takeaway this game will provide. Xenoblade Chronicles already dabbled into the concept of following an abusive God with Zanza so I don't think the religious overtones will be quite as heavy, still, it isn't a Takahashi game without mechs, and I can't wait to see the mechs. Yeah, and unless Alvis/Shulk screwed up while making the new world, it has no need for gods, and therefore probably has no gods It could have an atheism concept, or just religious groups abuse their power(Kinda like with FFX) Though a Xeno game without religious aspects would feel pretty weird, since both Xenosaga and XC have them(admittedly, I don't know about Xenogears or XCX)

Xenogears literally had the protagoinst and deuteragonist (Fei Wong Fong and Elly) as the games Adam and Eve that tried to stop a false god. Honestly, Xenoblade Chronicles was fairly minimal with its Religious overtones. Aside the obvious Monoliths, I can't really recall anything fairly Religious. Maybe, we may have a situation where an elite group of people (like traditional High Entia) that want to revert back to the days of Bionis and Mechonis because they were advantageous at the time. And so, through religious manipulation of what happened in the past, the hero tries to stop these elite antagonists. I'm just grasping for straws because we have so little to draw from lol. Setrex 1,031 Posted January 14, 2017 (edited) I was really shocked by the announcement, but I was so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so happy. I'm even more delighted that NoE confirmed the game is coming to Europe in 2017. I was always buying a Switch, but Xenoblade 2 solidified my reason to pick it up sooner rather than later. I seriously cannot wait. On another note, I really hope NoE is handling the localisation. I didn't hate the job done with XCX, but it never had the same charm as XC did. Shulk 8,623 Posted January 15, 2017 Ditto. The European charm was absolutely breathtaking. No need to be oddly Americanized. In the case of X, it made sense since the characters were all from America. For this one, yeah, I'd love to see NoE handle the localization. Of course they already said the game's coming in 2017 while NoA hasn't made any mention of a release time... I really hope this won't be a repeat of the original game taking 2 years for us to get the same exact version Europe got.

Then, when I get the Switch, I'll definitely get this game, God willing! Looks like there's another good game for me to keep my eye on for the Switch! Good luck getting a copy of the first! Just a tip if your Wii is a North American model: you can get the region-free version of it on Amazon for $45, and it's the exact same as any other English copy. That's probably the best way to get the game if you own a NA Wii. I'm pretty sure it's easier to get a copy in other regions. It's a fantastic game, I'd say it's definitely worth playing! EDIT (1/17/2017): Some people have gotten around to translating the excerpts of the script that pop up in the first trailer. Here's what's been found (note that this is an unofficial translation and just a summary). I'm putting it all in a spoiler tab since the quote feature isn't wanting to work: Translation 1 "So, when Takahashi's name pops up there's some pages of stuff that float past, and you can kind of make out what's written on them. In one, Vandam(yes, everyone's favorite), is discussing some relationship between "Blade" and "Driver" with Rex. He explains that the "Blade" is immortal and will recover from injuries quickly, unless some 'core' on their chest is destroyed, or if their "Driver" dies. Rex says something about how "Drivers" protect the "Blade", and thus, he will protect Homura. In another, Homura, Hikari and Nia are all at some kind of bath, and Nia tells Hikari she's got a nice bod. I have no idea what kind of serious scenario that could ever be relevant in. In the third(which I could barely read), some leader of something is leading other people towards some kind of ancient ship entrance. Nia's there, someone named Shin, and some other person named Mets(u). Might try and figure out more of this one later." Source Translation 2 with Analysis: "I decided to transcribe all of what is legible at any point in order to allow a fuller understanding of what they're about (which was quite a bit more work than you'd expect). Where there's some text which isn't visible at any point but I can tell there is some there, I've replaced it with "…". Rex shows Vandam a chest core, presumably the Zohar shape worn by two of the characters, and also says that he'll protect Homura, who I assume to be one of the girls with the Zohar shape. There's also a mention of a "Driver" protecting a "Blade". (Again, if anyone can fully translate this, please do. It cuts out at the end because of a page turn.) Clouded Sun 1,232 Posted January 22, 2017 One thing I have to say that both XC and FFXV nailed was the brotherhood between the characters. They all felt naturally in place, and not outlandish like a silent character. I hope in Xenoblade 2 with a proper MC, we get some good dialogue between the characters. I hope they also have banter outside of combat too. Really hoping for the return of changing clothes. Hate the MC's outfit. 1 Dio Brando reacted to this

Shulk 8,623 Posted January 22, 2017 (edited) I dunno, because the UK and the rest of Europe got Pokemon Sun and Moon a week later than the rest of the world, I think it's naturally fair for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to be released in Europe for a week before the United States as a means of compensation.Pokemon games have come out a week later in Europe for a while now presumably because some European retailers sold X/Y a week early and everything leaked online as a result. North America had to wait 2 years for Xenoblade (Europe only waited one) and there have been other recent Nintendo games that we got long after Europe (Yoshi's Woolly World gave us a six month wait after Europe for no reason, and I'll leave out the long list of Virtual Console games we waited a year to see ported over). I don't see why we need to be punished with a late release of Xenoblade because Pokemon took a week later to come to Europe, they're not related and it doesn't fix anything. We'd be better off just tossing out the idea of delayed releases and getting worldwide launches for more games. That way, no one has to wait any longer than anyone else.
